I can't believe how underrated this channel is. I mean, this is exactly what we want to seeee!!! Not stupid beauty care routines, but a real person who made it to yale and has a super cute dog. I love it how genuine you are and also so very funny. Keep up the amazing content :>>
I’m about to start my first year of college at what I strongly suspect is your alma mater and honestly your channel brings me so much joy and information about the whole process of law school. Yale is my dream school and I’ve learned so much from you so thank you . Also Amethyst is a legend :)
Thank you so much for your encouraging words - comments like yours really motivate me to continue making videos! ☺️ If you are attending my alma mater, I hope you have the best time in the middle of nowhere and the tightest knit community I’ve ever been a part of 🐮😉
Omg...all that chinese food is making me mouth water... Anywhoos please keep on making videosssss, they are just so calming to watch..keep up the awesome work :)
i remember seeing you sharing your first video on fb and being like i can’t believe that girl got into yale! now i’ll be going to law school myself and an bingewatching all your stuff to have an idea of the tragedy that’s gonna happen to me this fall
Thank you for your videos! Although I am not in law school yet, I am already picking up on best practices by watching your videos - some as simple as making a "to do" list for your day.
this might be overdramatic but 3:00 comforts me a lot because that's literally me and that is the one (1) thing that made me doubted myself for taking law major lmao
Ahhh I just started law school, and youtube channel sharing the my experience, and can’t wait for this to be my life, hopefully the pandemic is over by then🥺🥺
I had a feeling you were going to post your summer associate experience! Yay! So happy to see another video from you. It's so funny how averse you are with litigation... because I feel the exact same way only with transactional law! Haha! I cannot see myself doing negotiations or contract drafting. I hope you found some time to enjoy your summer! 💕 P.S. Can you believe we're 2Ls! Ahhh! What classes are you taking this fall?
Omg so happy to see you comment!! Haha I’m the exact opposite - I can’t see myself in court or doing legal research 😂 I hope you’ve been having a lovely summer, and all the best going into 2L!! I’ll be taking mostly corporate law classes and tax (since everyone says to take tax...) so we’ll see how that goes 😅 How about you? Are your classes online?
Yes, classes are all online. We were supposed to go hybrid, but with everything going on, the school decided to go full remote this semester. I'll be taking evidence, crim pro, a couple of electives, and my externship. So it will be a busy fall for me. I wish you the best of luck, and as always, I look forward to your videos and cameos from Amethyst. 💕
what are some common frustrations you have with work -- i.e. type of work you're given as the most junior person there? occasional condescension or lack of sufficiently stimulating work? super subtle belittlings or signs of disrespect? regarding these frustrations, what thought exercises do you go through to still feel motivated -- i.e. do you try to compete with certain coworkers who might've belittled you? make your manager proud? fantasize abt a day you'll be running your own company and that this is just a stepping stone til then? etc alternatively, what elements of the experience have inspired/fulfilled you the most -- i.e. inspiring coworkers + uplifting managers? if so, what parts of their behavior catalyzed those feelings from you? finally, from the new exposures from this experience, what have you learned about the type of person/employee/coworker/leader you want to be in terms of what specific actions you're striving towards exhibiting more of and less of?
wow, very reflective questions (suits your name hehe)!! I'd say that my summer associate experience was extremely positive, all things considered. my coworkers and senior associates, and the partners I interacted with on occasion, were welcoming and generous with their time and knowledge. I never felt belittled or like the work I was given was simply 'busywork' - all of my contributions went somewhere and became something in the end. in the future, I definitely want to make others feel welcomed and appreciated. sometimes it's hard to ask 'basic' or 'silly' questions as a junior associate, and I never want to make anyone feel bad for not knowing something when they're still learning. I also really appreciated the people who held my hand and guided me through the most basic of documents and research questions, since this was my first exposure to biglaw.
@@untitledlawstudent ah -- reading your replies last night before i passed out made my night :') love this. i'm so passionate about mentorship, so this was awesome to read. excited to see you continue being an awesome lawyer, team member, and coach !!!
Hi! I love your channel so much! Could you speak at all to what inspired you to go to law school? I am currently interested but having a hard time determining if it is right for me. Any tips would be awesome! (If you went over this in another video, sorry, I'm still working though watching them all! ) 🥰
thank you so much!! 💕 glad you found the Q&A helpful. I’d say that talking to lawyers (across all fields) and shadowing one if you can are helpful ways to determine whether or not the law is right for you. also, there’s a ton of variety within law! ☺️
I'm interning at an intellectual property lawyer's office in LA and it seems there are a number of things we have in common! Looking forward to your future videos :)
Litigation feels too adversarial for me, and I really don’t like doing legal research or debating on the spot, so basically nothing about that field appeals to me 😅 also court cases can last YEARS. Transactional law, on the other hand, feels more collaborative, since all sides are trying to reach a deal, and it’s more about contracts and negotiations, with little legal research / brief drafting. That said, I truly admire and respect litigators for the work they do, since I definitely couldn’t do it!
Thanks for sharing! I am starting a BL summer job this summer! I am wondering if you had a minimum hour requirement? And approx how many hours a week did you work? Thanks!
Oooh congrats on that offer! Hope you have a good summer. :) We were required to "bill" a minimum of 7 hours per day, although social events and everything counted (under something like "office time" lol), so it wasn't too hard. I generally worked 40 hours a week, I think? But some of it was also spent doing training and attending social events virtually.
@@untitledlawstudent thank you so much for the response! Thanks for the congrats! I am looking forward to it and this is only my 1L summer so it’s an exciting time for future prospects! Good luck to you in the future!
Hey, what laptop are you using? Would you recommend a 13 or 15 inches, MacBook air or pro laptop for a law student? since my brother is going to law school, I decided to buy him a laptop as a gift. Thank you :)
I'm currently using the 2019 16-inch Macbook Pro I got this summer as an upgrade from my previous 2015 Macbook Air. For law student purposes, the Air is more than enough - I only got a Pro because I wanted to edit videos and run games more smoothly. The size totally depends on your preferences. I prefer bigger screens, but the 16-inch Pro I have right now is pretty heavy, so it's not the greatest for carrying around. That said, we're all at home anyway, so I haven't had to actually carry it anywhere... Congrats to your brother! :D
Hello idk if you have time to answer but if you can I would like to know if you have any idea what I should major in to get into a t14 school I know there’s no requirement but I was just wondering what would make my application look the best it can I’m currently an undeclared major.
whichever major you think you'll be able to get the highest GPA in! GPA + LSAT will hold the most weight in your applications. choose something you enjoy and will be motivated to do well in. :) (the one caveat is if you want to take the patent bar and become a patent lawyer later on - in that case, you'll want to major in engineering / science.)
We’re supposed to “work” 8 hours a day, so let’s go with that 😉 some days are less busy, some more (though rare). summer associate positions are supposed to be super chill so we get a chance to meet people and have fun (while learning some law, of course) 😝
yep, I'm planning on starting out in biglaw so that I can be financially stable and have the freedom to pivot into other careers, such as in-house, non-profit, or government (haven't decided yet). also biglaw provides really good training and exposure to a variety of transactions.
I think the work is interesting and the training is great, but it’s definitely a 24/7 grind with little time for rest or hobbies. It’s a trade off though, since the pay and exit opportunities are fantastic. I won’t be returning to New Haven and will be taking online classes from home again this fall 😢

are you going into big law when you graduate? if so, are you only going to stay to pay off loans (if you have any) or is that your career choice?
