    Doug's story telling is one of the main reasons I watch. If the outboard has a vibration next year, remind him about the dial indicator! "It's OK" he says after a visual inspection, lol.

    I really appreciate how your farm cleans and maintains your equipment! Getting a machine good and clean before starting the maintenance really helps in spotting future problems. Hoses chafing, belts wearing inappropriately,welds starting to fail, seals leaking, and on and on! Catching problems now helps to keep your equipment in the field when you really need it. Keep up the great work and keep posting your wonderful content!

A reminder B O A T (Bring on another thousand). I gave up with so many requests every few day I sold the boat. I thought it was over when I sold the motor home. They keep calling and asking now it’s the weekend pool party. God give those with lots of toys strength.

    My friends with a boat were the same way. The first year they got it they put 40 hours on it. The second year 16 hours, the third year 4 hours then it sat in the building for 2 years never used. They bought a bigger boat that they could sleep on and planned to go on long trips. They had to rent dock space on the Mississippi River 30 minutes away. When they found out how much fuel it used they decided not to make any long trips. They had to pay to have it lifted out and stored every year. They used it for two summers then sold it.

    Sometimes "boat" is spelled "boatt", as in "ten thousand" (been there, done that). Do a run out check with a dial indicator. Most brands specify no more than 2 thousandths of an inch (0.002"). Keep in mind that a prop shaft being bent 0.001 from straight will rotate and give you a total of 0.002" out of true. It doesn't take much of a whack to bend a prop shaft, especially on the dual prop installations. You may also look at submitting an insurance claim. (again, been there and done that).

    • @BJMDWIT
      @BJMDWIT 6 месяцев назад +3

      If you bend a stainless prop, you’ve bent the output shaft. The bent shaft will take out the lower unit gears. Very expensive.
      You bend an aluminum prop, the output shaft may be good.

Chet talked about getting the swags out of the line under the trailer.my suggestion is, use a split pvc pipe a half inch or one inch larger than the line , length of the trailer and mount it so you can tip either way or, just mount the line in a pipe ❤

    Being the same age as Dougo, I really like his stories. I still would love to hear a chronology of the equipment over the years. I found it very interesting that not all that long ago (in my mind LOL!) the farm used, what? two JD 55s and a 4400 ? At least I think that's what he said once. I think he said they once planted 500+ acres once in day with a 12-row planter. Pretty cool stuff!

    Chris was without a doubt an asset to the operation all around, hopefully he will be back, he will be missed. They just go to show good times were happening.........👍.

      especially when you bend the hardened steel ones like Dougo has you know you hit something good. I have taken some nice chunks out of / bent the softer metal ones. Wont even get into why my skag is half the size it should be. Good ol' Mille Lacs. I've towed boats back to the landing that were missing entire lower units - it happens.

    Yes Chet you know all about the boat and docks. Every spring and fall you get the call what are you doing on Saturday I need help with docks.

    Just a suggestion Dougo but take bouy or a jug painted red to mark the rock piles or logs. You could take a hand held GPS and mark them then in the spring mark them with jugs pick up in the fall. Would save you a lot time and money repairing the boat. I know boats aren't cheap to work on.

    Doug: As a fellow owner of a lakehouse property I feel your pain. For instance a rebuilt stainless prop was close to $300. A Merc water pump install was close to $400... It never ends.
