    I had an original President Grant which I sold a few years ago - superb radio. Quite exciting to see this latest incarnation and of course now you can use these additional modes with everyones blessing! (On approved sets only of course).

    I was thinking of buying one of these and now you've convinced me is a good idea.
    Great videos! Thanks...

      It's a jolly good radio. Comes with a 3 year guarantee too. We can't find another UK legal SSB rig at present that ticks all our boxes like this does. The others, whilst legal, either don't have UK FM frequencies at all, or if they do, have to be reset to UK for the FM channels, the set again to EU4 for the SSB channels. Over the next few months many of these sets will get their synthesiser chips reprogrammed for the UK. I'm certainly not buying 10 year old unsold sets, even if CE approved!
      I wish Midland would revamp the much loved precision series from the 2001 rig to the 7001!

      Hi Richard, The Midland 2001 was the first CB radio I bought second hand in 1991 and I've still got it. I liked the green display and how positive the channel selector was when changing channels. It was a good solid click. Have you done a line up of the 2001 yet? That would be good to see.
      Thanks for the great videos! Those old CB'S will still be on the air long after all the new surface mount radios have died...
      Regards,
      Glen.

      I bought a Midland 2001 a few weeks ago, so it will be a forthcoming attraction. Actually, I fancy having one in my car - at least you know where you stand with a rig like that!

    Hi I’ve just been watching the video for the grant 2. I picked one up four years ago and never got it fitted up cause of family trouble. I’ve not set up my home base with the grant 2 first time out of the box connected to 13.8 power supply. It lit up for a second or two then went out. Since then it will only receive and won’t transmit also the mike channel selector will only go one way’ down. What have I done?

    • @ukfmcbradioservicingTango21
      @ukfmcbradioservicingTango21  5 лет назад +1

      David, Firstly I'd check that your power supply really is doing 13.8Vand not suffering from a faulty regulator///which can make such power supplied pass 28V.
      The radio sounds like it's lost one of it's internal voltage rails. Four years never connected is enough time (if the psu didn't kill it) for an electrolytic capacitor to fail/The snag with electrolytic capacitors is that products need to be switched on for a few seconds from time to time for these capacitors to keep their 'form'.
      Whatever killed it, the radio now needs repairing & perhaps the original supplier will sort it out for you, though you are now out of the 3-year guarantee period.

    Hi Richard. All your CB repair have got me salivating for A SSB CB. From my initial research we can use 12 watts do you have any recommendations for a full power SSB. It may sound daft daft but I would prefer a chrome rather than a black box as I want to install it in my 1953 Chevy truck. Any thoughts?

      The President Grant 2 MkII is the only one that when set to UK channls (it's a CE approved multi-norm set), works as one would expect. That is 40 UK channels FM, then 40 CEPT channels AM, FM, LSB, USB. All the others you have to fart around with putting them into CEPT & then into UK for the normal UKFM channels. Also bear in ind it has to be a new CE approved SSB set...not some 1970's American illegal boat anchor, however nostalgic.
      Unfortunately I've no interest in SSB whatsoever.
      Richard

    I noticed you had the attenuator (Local / DX) ON at the USB test - was this intended?

    i have a president grant 2 the new legal rig i got it off a mate it receives great but no output as he tried to turn the power up im wanting to swop it for another decent ssb radio it would be an easy fix for someone in the no cheers from graham 26 dt 2128 .

    • @ukfmcbradioservicingTango21
      @ukfmcbradioservicingTango21  9 лет назад +1

      +Marie Clifton beats me why people want to turn the power up. A bit of training would telly your mate that you need to square the power to double the range, so that's at least 64 watts....turning a 4w radio up to 5w is going to make so little difference. It's like audio amplifiers...a 30W amplifier isn't 3 times louder than a 10W one...just a little bit louder.....and a 2L car doersn't go twice as fast as a 1L one! The importers opg the Grant are Sharmans Multicom at Manchester. They may be able to repair it for you

    Easy to check ssb on am\fm test set,set mod to carrier only(CW),set rf gen 1khz up or down centre of channel ie 27.185mhz ch19(27.186 or 27.184)select upper or lower ssb mode and you should get a test tone from radio speaker,you can check 50uVpD level for S9 easy and s\N in ssb mode.For tx on ssb is on freq turn the carrier balance pot while you key up on USB or LSB you can then see carrier and read it on your test bench counter if radio set up correct and spot on freqYou can also zero beat to check rx is spot on in ssb mode with sig gen,easy peeps that's how Ive managed in servicing cb\hf kit in workshop,nice video!

    • @ukfmcbradioservicingTango21
      @ukfmcbradioservicingTango21  10 лет назад +1

      Thanks for that. As I say, there are two test sets here that specifically do SSB, but I'm having a big changearound as there are currently two workshops here & another one in another building here. All three are coming into the one room whilst the radio side of this business is on standby. Last time I did any SSB stuff it was Pye SSB210 radios for Wales police! Anyway, still waiting for the wholesaler to get a service manual for the Grant. I am only prepared to buy in radios fror resale that have available service manuals...the wholesaler knows this!

      talking about "dying Art". When I was service manager at Nottm Radio, we were doing some Motorola products. The smiley-boy rep came in with the then new GP300 hand portable radios & announced they were "non repairable"....so I packed in doing Motorola!

    I love my Grant 2, its a really nice radio. Stick a power mic on it for FM and you're good to go.
    Did you ever get a servicing video done for this radio?

      There's a new version coming out soon - The Grant 2 Premium! With added heat sink, more power and keeps UK channels in EXPORT mode.

  • @flyboyguru6929
    @flyboyguru6929 9 лет назад

    I though the UK version was 26.965 - 27.405 only? It looks like you took out the export version or someone did the frequency modification before you took it out of the box.

    • @ukfmcbradioservicingTango21
      @ukfmcbradioservicingTango21  9 лет назад +2

      +Nathan Daniels UK frequencies ar 27.60125 to 27.99125, fm only. /UK citizens may also now use cept channels 26.965 to 27.405 AM or FM at 4W and SSB 12W PEP

      +joe Le tec At koss errr...the UK authorities did on the 27th June 2014. The UK now has, 40 channels 27.79225 to 27.99125 FM only 4W, and CEPT 40 channels AM or FM at 4W with SSB at 12W PEP. Radios of course have to be type approved and show the CE mark.
