    The mic looks very similar to the one on the icom706. Many of the features come from an amateur radio. CTCSS and DCS are used when using a repeater on vhf/uhf.

    I just ordered one of these for my truck for over the road. I don’t need a conversation 10m. If I want power I can use a linear. This is just a very nice CB with the right functions for me. The FM Ctcss dcs is nice when running with anyone and we don’t want or need to have people cutting in the conversations. Can’t wait to get mine in.

    Thanks for the great video , I owned and made multiple review videos of the first George II in England 7 months ago. It's such a pity for you guys the FCC is locked and has one less output transistor .Your video shows me that the George FCC has far superior output audio compared to the others tested. Keep up the great work Dave🙂

    Good video explaining the functions. One of the biggest advantages for me in the mobile is the screen. I use the same background shown on your video, and it looks great! What does not happen, as in the 980SSB, is that if daylight hits the screen, rather than become unreadable, it appears to be grayscale, so in any light situation the George's screen will be visible to the driver. I found the 980 screen unviewable depending on how bright it was outside the car. Once again, good video!

    When I was trying to decide what new CB I wanted, I was considering all sorts of things (just like everyone else does). So many reviewers gave great reviews of the President models that I had it boiled down to either the McKinley II FCC, or the George II FCC. Ultimately, I went with the McKinley because I wanted to use it primarily as a base unit and it has a front firing speaker. If I was going for a primarily mobile unit, I’d definitely choose the George. The George has that built in USB port which enables you to charge your phone without causing interference on the radio the way it happens if you plug your phone into the cigarette lighter.

    If they went to the trouble of putting USB socket they should have used USB C on such a modern radio, but that's a very minor detail.
    Would have loved to see 100w all modes,
    Would have loved if all buttons lit up.
    I have the Washington on order, currently using the FT-891 and while it's a fantastic radio the fan noise is driving me insane, especially on FM , it's not a fault of the radio, it's a very small radio for installation in a car so the heatsink is tiny so it need high speed fans which makes it very loud, you won't notice in a car but the President should make a massive difference.
    The 891 can do 100 w on SSB and FM so I might need an Amplifier to boost me back up to FM but I will see how it works for me, SSB @80 won't be noticeable vs 891.
    The Washington will also give me more buttons such as band and mode which will be real nice + it's a lot nicer looking radio.

      I bought a ICOM 706 (the first one) for $800. It works on 160 through 2 meter ham bands. The newer models worked on 70 cm. band with even higher rf output. They are for sale on ebay for $400. 2 meter was fun. I could talk all over Atlanta through repeaters. I got rid of all my ham equipment a couple of years ago. The 2 meter repeaters got really quiet. A lot of folks left . This radio is really nice, especially with fm. You will love ssb. I had several cobra am/ssb radios which I've used to talk across the pond, and all across the states. A 102" stainless steel whip antenna (saw today for $30-40) will be the best mobile antenna you can get, if your vehicle can mount it. FM communication is really nice. No static at all. BTW, 12 watt pep on ssb will get you across the pond if atmospheric conditions are right.

    • @MMOOOOSSEE
      @MMOOOOSSEE 17 дней назад

      @ how incredibly nice were you to provide all that information. I’m on the hunt now for said antenna. Unfortunately I live in an apt in queens NYC so not so easy to set up. However my car can get me anywhere I need to go. I’m new to ham and cb radios. So much to learn. I’m impatient. I wanna throw money at good gear then learn. Not other way around. Saving up for icom 7300. That should cover my hf needs. Now I need a Mobile hf radio. The ic2730a is great uhf and vhf.

    • @cbradiomagazine
      @cbradiomagazine  5 месяцев назад +1

      Usually with CB radios you don't need an amplified PA speaker. Try to place the speakers as far away from the radio/microphone as possible and you can try turning down microphone gain on the radio perhaps. Not sure if that will help, I've never run a radio into amplified PA speakers.

      The Lincoln II + is an amateur radio transceiver. The George FCC is a CBRS radio transmitter. Two different radio for 2 different radio operators, but as always, many people will operate the Lincoln 2 + in the CBRS band Part 95 Subpart D to break the rules. • @JLYTV555
      @JLYTV555 5 месяцев назад

      @Fox250R Yes, we can say that. In reality, the problem isn't about the radios, but it's about the operators. Most Citizen Band Radio Service (CBRS) operators hate to hear that there are rules for CB. They think it's a joke, and they keep ignoring them. Ignoring them is like playing with fire and thinking we'll never get burned. The manufacturers know that they play smart. How? They clearly advertise some radios as 10 meter for ham, but they know very the rule breakers will buy for CB band. For example, if we take the Stryker SR-955HPC, we can see that the manufacturer prints in front of the radio: 10 Meter Amateur Mobile Transceiver. CB operators chose to buy it and use it on the CB and make video with it like they're doing something legal..So, the manufacturers know the rules, they protect themselves and the resellers, but they're not responsible for those who illegal use the radio outside the amateur radio service.

    • @Fox250R
      @Fox250R 5 месяцев назад

      @@JLYTV555 manufacturers also make these radio so accessible to run on 11 meter what do they expect? Look at the 955 it’s not a ham radio it’s a cb but the box says export. Most 955 operators will never really go beyond 27mhz. Export is a fancy name for CB radio. And it will never change

    • @JLYTV555
      @JLYTV555 5 месяцев назад

      @Fox250R You're correct. It's like delicious unhealthy food. We need to resist eating them if we want to stay healthy, but some of us can't resist them. They'll eat them even though the consequences are bad. Export radios are not FCC certified transmitters for the CBRS. They're not in harmony with § 95.935 (a) (b) , § 95.961 (a) (b), and § 95.967 (a) (b) CBRS transmitter power limits AM/FM must not exceed 4 Watts and SSB.must not exceed 12 Watts.

    The George like the Washington both suffer with diabolical cross band interference, also the signal meter is basically an ornament giving signals nowhere near accurate.. and the RF gain is useless, the channel changer/menu select has a lot of wobble and almost feels like it going to fall off.. the bad features aside they both have great audio. 5/10

    • @cbradiomagazine
      @cbradiomagazine  4 месяца назад

      @@DeltaXray444 I agree about the digital S meter on newer radios like this, I find them pretty useless. I’d disagree about the RF gain, I initially thought it also was useless going back to my first experience with the President McKinley but I found that most people just don’t utilize it enough. Meaning the first 2 bars you cut back don’t do much of anything, it really kicks in around the 3-5 mark. When I test these in the mobile I run the RF gain 4 bars down, it cuts back noise and unwanted signal without cutting back wanted stations too much. Most stations I can hear at that point I can work.

    • @DeltaXray444
      @DeltaXray444 4 месяца назад

      I understand what you are saying about the RF gain but from my experience with both radios once the RF gain is used the incoming signals are a guessing game there is just no accuracy at all.. the RF gain works in a fashion but it's just so annoying seeing incoming signals from nearby stations giving a much lower signal when the gain is used.. and stations further away just disappear from the bottom end.. I find it's either one way or the other whether up or down with the gain.. I guess it's a balancing act but either way the incoming signals are way off..
      A footnote here.. with the price of these radios it's absolutely shocking from some of these manufacturers that they cannot give us a decent RF gain or signal meter. Both really are just ornaments it doesn't matter which way you look at it..
      We don't ask for much apart from the essential functions on a radio being somewhere near accurate.. most other modern export radios are the same..
      For an example.. I find really low incoming signals that should by definition give a signal of 2-3 will give me a 8-9 signal with all the ash and background noise.. using a good calibrated RF gain would help to alleviate at least half the noise and make the low station sound much better.. even when implementing the NRC with the RF gain those stations can become inaudible..
      I actually do like these radios but if we don't give the correct feedback to manufacturers things will just get worse. They need honest feedback to correct the mistakes they make on these expensive radios.

    You know, I don't understand why president sales 10 meter radios everyday that we're designed to just have a wire clipped, or a resistor added to give it 11meter , but , they won't give me, nor will anyone on RUclips that president give it to , the damn service menu for the George fcc, all president radios come out of the box with not so great modulation, and on a dummy load, not even doing 4 watts, makes no sense, guys sale these on there RUclips channel everyday, after going in the service menu and making a few adjustments, if president gives it to them, dammit, I want it also , ok , I'm done.

      @@CreachterZmany people like going to some of the frequencies outside of the cb band. For example 27.555 USB is a popular international calling frequency. This radio cannot go to that frequency but the EU version George II can go there. People refer to those frequencies as “freeband”. It’s illegal to talk there but many people around the world do it every day.
