Ain't seen one of those before neither but seems a decent set, and it will be an interesting Scratchy corner test.

A good signal throughout the Scratchy corner test and on all modes at 5 mile point, audio readable but once again sound quality of talking down a toilet roll tube.

That's like the old 70's American uniden chassis with the hole on the main board for the speaker. Strange design for a newer set.

Hello Richard, thanks for the tests of the new Midland 28. I do like the Thunderpole T-3000 you have in the car, I own one too (I reviewed it last year) and it was certainly close to the best AM/FM set I tested in 2024. Cheers Dave , North Lincolnshire. 🙂

I think Midland should just give up. I have said this before, if the radios all done 3.5 watts, +2 Deviation out the box they would be worth collecting. 2e0deq.

So bad it almost sounds off frequency on that base station test.

Maybe it would be better without the "new improved" microphone? But probably not.

Compared to older models its a waste of money.

A bigger screen for those of us with old eyes.

Another radio not worth buying. Sorry midland you’ve made a mess of these new sets. No way to adjust anything , no detailed instructions or information on the set’s performance. Im sorry but thats just poor. I’ll stick with the 48 or 78 pro

Too nice for a tractor cab ! Just thinking that the mic comparison would be better at the 5 mile point as the weaker signal woukd enable different qualities to be heard ?

I can’t imagine tractor drivers are giving each other signal reports whilst they are working the field, so the signal meter is pretty much irrelevant in that setting.

Terrible lag on key up

One thing I always noticed was that Uniden radios seem to have far fewer components inside than a Cybernet, despite both being of similar quality.

Look at 3.37 and you can see what was loose inside. The piece of cardboard will certainly help, but I would have removed all the bolts. Good job.

Hello, I have the same receiver but the knobs have been changed. I want to put back some knobs that are as similar as possible. What is the diameter and height of the original knobs? I think the tuning knobs have a larger diameter. Regards, JM - CT1BRM

Nice speedy diagnosis of the Rx Tx fault and replacement transistor and its all ready for Scratchy corner and its return to work service.

On the farm where i am my colleague runs a maxcom 4e and i use a Cybernet 3000... although we do mix and match various radios for fun ...the farm environment is a good test of a radio as it can be quite harsh and we have found the old 27/81 rigs are very robust and can take some real punishment,they certainly were built very well .

iv still got one of these with a power desk mic and eco chamber lol still in working order is the old cb radio still getting used today

A very poor new offering from Midland. I find the new President rigs significantly better. My President Harrison 2 is excellent. I note that you got good results when you serviced the Barry and the Bill as well.

A 5Star performance around the scratchy corner test and at five mile point and was reasonably readable passing Rauceby Services, on the subject of people making legal radios illegal one theory may have been a disguise in a legal chassis so if the man from Whitehall came knocking they would say its not me this is a legal set rather than have an illegal set on the bench they would have to hide.
