Hey I got my connecting rod and box of merch! Thanks so much clay! I wasn't expecting all the extras! It's crazy how costly it can be when a small part like a spring fails. You guys are going to get there. I can feel it!
How cool is that??? The Millifans out here in America are super happy for you, hope it makes your day
I won Clay's last giveaway and ended up with way more than a poster with autographs. Congratulations on winning.
@@TravisHargiss Thanks man! Congrats to you too!
Congratulations Jerry! I won the piston giveaway and got a Summit hat,Summit hot/cold glass and poster of his Top Fuel Dragster and I asked him to sign all of them! Clay's one of the good old boys so proud of you Jerry!
@@BenjySparky Thanks! 7 more rods and a set of pistons I can start putting my top fueler together! Hahaha
Thanks for the explanation. That's the 1st time in all these years that somebody took the trouble to explain how and why a hole goes out.
I know that adrenaline must be next level when that monster takes off.
We're all a bunch of Millbillies pulling for you Clay! I can't wait till Indy to finally meet you and get your autograph. I predict your best year is yet to come!
Hang tough, Clay! We're rooting for you and the team! Be safe!
Ready to watch it on tv today..I hope it goes well for you Clay and your entire team !
Thanks for Sharing Clay. Its so interesting how it all works and the behind the scenes of a race crew. Nice to see you smiling face no matter!. Good luck Sunday!
I am SOOOOOOO glad Doug is still there in that front passenger seat!!! GO CLAY AND TEAM !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Got my tickets for '23 Epping and the ticket lady asked if I needed anything else. I told her let Clay win one. She laughed. Thank you for doing these videos. Knowledge is great.
Life is tough running Nitro, sometimes the harder you all work the worse it gets. You have a great team and will sort it.
Wishing you better luck on race day! 😊
Thanks for the inside looks of some of the chasing gremlins.
Good to see you still smiling so many things to go wrong some people don't know that all these little things have to be right to go fast what a great crew you have
Great video as always. Great attitude. you are one of the most positive people in the business. thank you for all the tech talk. I find it extremely fascinating.
Wow sometimes it just goes that way. You'll get there Clay! You got a great crew, and more Moon Pies and Mountain Dew, and stomping on the loud pedal, You'll get the win lights! Besides you can't keep a good Southern Boy Down! I hail from your state too! Love your spirit Clay. You're going to win!
That really sucks to have these problems. I certainly know what yall are going through. Im sure Jim O. Will get it figured out. Good luck on race day!
Hi Clay ! Greetings from France ! We don't have much dragster races here, so thanx a lot for this wonderful channel ! 💪
After not going down the track on 4 straight qualifying runs I literally jumped off the couch when your 3.695 took out Ashley. And then no one ran a 3.6 the rest of the race. Clay you had the 3rd quickest run of all 4 rounds. A heartbreaker!
I've been a grandstand follower of drag racing for many years and have been able to learn many new things since I found your channel. For example, I didn't know that there were additional fuel rails also running through the heads on a nitro car. It sure is nice of you to let us follow you throughout the day in the pits, in the lounge as well as on the track. The detail you provide on what can caused a cylinder to lose its light is very informative. I small spring not holding pressure can cause a lot of other problems.
Clay you rock! Love the channel and content! I'm here for the algorithm! Peace
Clay chasing those gremlins is never fun. Just when you think things couldn’t get worse the slap you in the back of the head. The parts plus nuertec crew will get her figured out though! Be safe and good luck today!
Come on Clay, with your team & new owner Rick Ware it's about your time to win that race. Man I can just feel it coming as I'm sure the rest of your fans can feel it too. It's about time It's about place & It's about time to WIN that race !!! Were all pulling for you & the team.
Beat 'em good, Clay! Rootin' for you here in California.
I'm sure the crew will figure it out, good luck Today.
I cannot imagine, having such a violent engine explode behind me… None of us can! But, being able to see how it affects, you is fascinating. From headache and bodyaches, to knowing that something is just not right, with the car from that point on truly amazes me, the concussion looks so violent in slow motion video. You see your body and helmet lurch forward on your way to 300mph and the forces must be in brief hundreds of g’s.
I'll be rooting for you later today. I love it how you give us the technical stuff. You guys will figure it out as I'm sure you have seen all this before.
Another great video . Thanks so much Clay.
Thanks Clay go getem on Sunday great video.
This was the most interesting play by play I have ever listened to. You made this soooo much more interesting by explaining the mechanical part of racing and showing us how the fuel works, or doesn't work. Thank You......hoping for more of these types of videos.
1:37 D D A !
Clay we were talking about you at breakfast last weekend in Bakersfield for the Hot Rod Reunion and we think not only are you a cool dude but your You Tube channel and how much effort you put into it is the best channel out there.
🎃Don’t let the Halloween witch get you…iffin it was easy,we wouldn’t have competition!
Hi Clay, we met a few times in Edmonton and again in Maple Grove early one morning. I now crew on a Nostalgia Nitro Funny Car (we were alcohol back in the day). We only had two appearances this year, made it down the track once. In fact, we were so rusty, the throttle stop for the burnout got missed for our first hit with some potential sponsors hanging around. As you imagine, it was our final hit😂. Good luck today, GO STRAIGHT, GO HARD and NEVER LIFT!
Thanks for the recap Clay. I looked up "positive thinking" in the dictionary and there was Clay Millican!! Good luck today.
Damn ,, I thought you'd throttled that gremlin . That's racing as you say . Good luck . Great video 👍🇬🇧
Thanks Clay love seeing this side of the racing FOX sure don't show enough
Watching you on TV what a first round WIN!!! Keep it up.Stomp on the loud pedal!!!
Oh man!! Bad qualifying sessions but what a first round win!!! Woooooooo!!! I swear to God after I saw how qualifying went I said to myself "self, they need to bust out first round with a 3:69" and oh Mylanta ... y'all did it!! Wooooooo on to 2nd round. Lets slay the dragon in Vegas! I want you guys to at least get a top 10 finish this season and then come back next year for the championship.
Thanks Clay for letting us into your world
Glad you figured out the parts issue. Thank you for video
thanks Clay
I am pulling and praying for y'all to get the set up right! God Bless thanks for taking us with you!!
Thank you for posting this great video Clay your team must be running low on headache powder after all the ghost issues .
That is racing! Great to see you stay positive and upbeat! You have been so close all year that once you beat this you will have a string of wins! Thanks for all the content and taking us along for the ride!
Best of luck to you guys Clay ! 👌😎
Clay, enjoy the video's. If it wasn't for bad luck we would not have any at all. You guys are doing great, love your videos. Chalee
gloom despair and excessive misery when we don't find the broken part.
Thank you
Good morning clay, best of luck to you all.
Love the tech stuff
Got 8 cylinders need to use them all. Pappy says you going to drive me to drinking, if you don't stop driving the Hot Rod.
If it racing was easy more people would be doing it! Keep pushing guys!! Issues aside, yall are knocking on the winning door now!!
I really enjoy your videos. They are real with explanations. Thanks for making them.
It must be frustrating for everyone, especially when you looked like you had turned the corner in Indy, head scratching time again, you and the team will turn it around. 😊
when y'all do get it right it is going to be something to see. Keep diggin
🙏 🤞🤞 Let's go Clay you guys got this.
Jim O. will get 'er figured out! I'm glad I'm not the one having to make the decisions on what to do to fix the problem! Oh, and I thought Mike was coming back too after Rick bought the team. Noticed him in the first video after the deal was done but nothing has been said that I know of...🤔
Clay,
thanks for all your efforts in putting out this fun and informative content, I know it takes a lot of time and I appreciate it.
really enjoy the technical info you share on how these cars work and what happens when they don't.
Good luck Buddy!
Thanks Clay, for share and explaining your cause analysis. Interesting stuff!!!
Cheering you on buddy. Also, that burrito looks Amazing!!
Loving the videos clay and your positive attitude no matter what sure am glad I was subscribed to KSR and now you best Drag Racing channel ever
Hello Clay thanks for the update at Vegas good luck to you and your entire team Take Care Sir
Keep pushing forward, SOTLP✌️💪
Should have replaced all of the jets maybe? The last blowup might have hurt them. Good luck on the race!
Dang the luck Clay. Hope raceway goes better
Hoping everything goes perfect on Race Day !.🙏
So that I’ve watched tonight you got past 1st round so far. Hope you go all the way
Great show and tell, don't like to see you guys have problems, but its interesting to know what went wrong.
Neat stuff. Enjoyed watching ✌️
Congrats on your round one win!!
Boy, what a heartbreak!!! Fingers crossed that y'all got the issue fixed and you can STOMP THAT LOUD PEDAL AND 🏆 WIN!!!
you need to put that kaboooom tune up back in it.
Always remember to leak the down nozzles
That is one expensive qualifying session! Keep trying to get that thing straight and fast! Good luck!
been following you since 1320, clay! sorry to hear a slack spring caused all the trouble - do they get tested often or will they now? it's been a long time since i did engineering at college but i'm suprised the spring was desproinged!
Love your videos 👍
Good luck today!
I have been a fan for a long time. Tears running down my face at your first NHRA win. I hate to say it but there is weak link and it needs to be sorted out.
Tough break!
I love your content brother but I hope I can give you a little riff raff. After Q4 looks like you got a little happy with the chapstick. But I love you guys., the whole team just fits your channel but more importantly as a team. Keep up the awesome work. You're an inspiration.
Great information in this one. Thank you for that. What are you looking for in the mirror during warm up?? Take care :)
So obviously I'm not a top fuel mechanic, but I have raced most of my life, and when we had fuel issues we'd swap out the carb with a new carb or a proven replacement, so my question is; if your having issues with the fuel rails and or injectors why not swap them out with new set ? I Would think That's gotta be a lot cheaper than hurting the block and heads,
When in doubt change it out, was our motto back in the day,
think you need a couple more fuel rails 😁😁😁
Get it together we want to see y0u win. Bro.
Nothing in this world is as fun as chasing your tail, and if you catch it, what do you do with it?
Ah those top fuel dragsters are finicky little creatures eh?
10,000+ pieces of ways to lose a run. Keep your chin up!
So at some point do you just wholesale exchange (shotgun) the entire lump put a fresh motor in and do a deep dive on the old lump when you get home?
Clay .. what happens if u find any damage/ weld cracks on the chassis... Do u have the facility to weld it or get someone in?..... The win is coming u have a very young but knowledgeable crew ..... Loving the channel 💪💪
I believe these chassis are limited to a certain amount of passes before you inspect them 50-80 passes something like that. I could be wrong tho
Hello Clay, some tuff luck in Vegas. I went through and was reading some of the comments. New Crew chief, clutch guy. Sounds like some arm chair crew chiefs, and clutch guy. I read one comment about someone getting a reply from their comment about contact them because they had something for me. Sounds like someone is pulling a scam at con. NOT YOU.
Talk about stomp on that load peddle brother all I have seen is the 3272 and 369 or what it was m stomp on that load pedal, can you give me the correct ET good job thanks BigAl California, praise Jesus Christ grace amen 🙏
Mr Millican, A question; why is there a check-valve in each of the fuel nozzles - to stop fuel from draining into the engine whilst not running ? Also, on the upper side of the head you showed us in the video, why are the fuel pipes going to the fuel nozzles crossed as they go to the nozzles ? Thanks. Mike
Does everyone on the team work under contract? Always wondered how it was structured for driver, chief, etc.
I don’t understand how too much fuel in 8 didn’t hydro lock it? Also I don’t understand how 8 going dark would cause the boost to increase on the remaining cylinders, unless the #8 intake valve wasn’t opening.
Clay if you have some spare time could you please do a tech video on why it doesn't hydraulic the cylinder when the hole goes out.
As Clay's video showed there are fuel nozzles placed in several areas or "stages" of the intake/induction system - some are under the injector "hat" as they call it - (where the 3 or 4 throttle blades are), before the air enters the blower, some are in the intake manifold and some in the cylinder head itself (like his video showed). So the total amount of fuel is somewhat "spread out" throughout the intake system and is atomized before it enters the combustion chamber. Yes, some is injected in a non-atomized (liquid) state at the nozzles in the cylinder heads, but at not enough volume to hydro lock. The exhaust valve hopefully is still opening and closing like it should and the unburned fuel is just pushed out - which looks like exhaust smoke but it isn't. But SOMETIMES they do completely hydro lock and usually bend connecting rods, break pistons, piston pins, etc.
@@kennethking3520 you are thinking in petrol / gasoline terms, not nitro methane terms. petrol has a stoichiometric value of 14.7:1 by volume, meaning that it requires 14.7 parts of air to 1 part fuel. Nitro methane has a stoichiometric value of around 1.7:1 (factoring in the minimum required 10% methanol required by the rules which has a stoichiometric value of 6.5:1) you still wind up with a stoichiometric value of somewhere around 2:1 (too lazy to do the exact math).
Petrol / gasoline uses small holes in the injectors under pressure to help break up the fuel droplets (becoming a fine spray) and helps it integrate them into the incoming air stream. On methanol / nitro methane engines the fuel injected into the hat is controlled by the size of the pill in the barrel valve, and may be further controlled by the individual nozzle sizes in the hat / plate above the blower itself, but those nozzle don't break up the size of the droplets like a car fuel injector. They slightly fan them out / decrease pressure, but it is still essentially a raw stream of nitro methane and 10% methanol mixture, simply because of the sheer volume of fuel trying to be injected.
Despite what most people think nitro methane is not a powerful fuel. It has a very low calorific value , much lower than most other fuels, but you are injecting roughly 8 times as much of it into the engine, which is what allows top fuel engine to produce so much power, not because of the fuel energy density which most people think.
Being that you have to inject so much fuel into the engine that is why it is injected into the hat / plate above the blower, the intake manifold and the heads. As Clay mentioned in the video, the nozzles in the heads and manifold comprise of a spring and a check ball. The are nozzles not really injectors. They are a crude tap to turn on and off a large volume of raw fuel.
If you think of it in physical terms. From memory the engine size limit in the US for top fuel is 500 cubic inches, so divide that by 8 and each cylinder is 62.5 cubic inches in displacement, and it is firing every second cycle. As mention about the nitro methane / methanol mixture has a stoichiometric value of roughly 2:1 so that means by volume roughly 21 cubic inches of that cylinder is filled with fuel every time that intake valve opens.
Now if it doesn't fire that fuel doesn't just transform into work energy, like it would if the cylinder fires, and considering the engine might be turning at 8000 rpm, that is a whole lot of unburnt fuel going into the engine. Add to that a couple of bar of boost, and you are talking a LOT of fuel to maintain that 2:1 stoichiometric value.
Which leads me back to my original questions of with such massive volumes of fuel why doesn't it frequently lock the engine when the fire goes out? Surely it can't all be getting out in time.
Hi Clay I have a question when you get a bad nozzle/injector does the pressure change in
The rail, if so do you see it in the data you get every run? Do they run a pressure test on the bench? You guys have a great day and I will see you Pomona
Question here if anyone can answer it. Why are the fuel injector lines in the cylinder head crossed between the fuel rail and the injector valve? Is this a strength thing or what?
Seems to be going backwards not forwards since the changes.
With owner and Jimo.
Not disrespecting anyone I know its like starting over again when changes are made.and you have to go back to basics.
Just wish it would be easier for all you guys.
Having a tough time of it.
Looks like too many moon pies for the driver is putting too much load on that motor.. Just an observation lol
what is the bore and stroke on 1 these cars
Keep on trying
