Holy fuck that funny car is like the closest thing to a controlled explosion you can drive. Made a 10-second truck look like a snail.

It is hard to get a real appreciation for just how fast a funny car really is. That truck is a legit 10 second vehicle and that is fast. In fact that truck is capable of out running all but the quickest street legal exotic cars in the quarter mile. To see the funny car take off like that and pass the truck by the traps is surreal.
stupidasso77 That is a 1000 foot track not a quarter mile or 1320 feet. 10 seconds in 1000ft is fast but nothing compared to 10 seconds in a quarter mile. :-)

no, that was a quarter mile. FC and TFD run the same passes now practically. 4.50 is a quarter mile time, they do mid to high 3's in the 1000 foot now.

@@35RSkyline that trophy truck is designed to take really hard hits and is built with just as much strength as the funny car, however the truck does have suspension and is not as long so my theory is it would just do a backflip. If the rest of the drive line can handle the torque of the engine
When most people dont understand what it REALLY takes to even start a Funny Car. Let alone, have any dragstrip let you take one down the line your first try.
The amount of licensing and testing that goes on before you are allowed to is nutty. Let alone needing the balls to do so. Im sure Bryce didnt even want to, being he is an experienced driver, knowing the risks of a Funny Car..

We watched the one angle of it @10:49 like 100 times on location right after it happened! Incredible.
Its worth pointing out that truck is pretty damn fast too. A Corvette ZR1 bone stock would be beat by probably 2 or 3 car lengths by this truck if it was running what they dialed. It really shows the incredible power of top fuelers

I have to disagree, something that has to be driven on a prepped flat drag track is not that impressive. The trophy truck has to be built to not only go fast but must be built to handle the abuse of off road destruction as well. But to each his own

to watch that funny car blast past the trophy truck is truly amazing...i balked when he said nine thousand horsepower but to see it in action against a truck thats as fast as my Ducati...wow...phenomenal!

I would love to drive a trophy truck, those things are crazy. One of my major goals is to drive one. 10sec truck is also pretty damn fast.

My father had a nitro funny car for years . I love the camera angles last 2 min . Better than most ESPN race day shots . You get more perspective of the sheer violence of it leaving the line . Cruz sits and waits, sounding like a huge lion breathing deep and heavy, in a trance , waiting to pounce his prey , and then does .

Go watch a top fuel race in person. Its awesome on camera like this, but its a hell of a experience in person. The camera doesn't show you the sensation of the ground shaking and the air vibrating around you. On the close shots of the funnycar launching the shake of the camera is it literally getting buffeted by the shockwave of sound traveling through the air when Cruz dropped the hammer. They set off earthquake sensors every time they go to Ponoma from what I've heard. And to give you an idea of the speed, by the time the tail end of the funny car passed the tree it was moving at a little over 100 mph. They're flat out nuts. Look up the video "Acoustic power of a top fuel dragster" here on youtube to see just a taste of what I'm talking about.

Automobile's always held a place in my heart especially racing, but I'd have sold my soul to have grown up in a family that raced Trophy trucks.
It was hilarious when Bryce beat Cruz's et time his first try and then kept getting better. TOO FUNNY!!! LOL
A shot from the air would have made this even better than it already is. I've never seen anything that shows how fast top fuel funny cars or dragsters accelerate . This really puts things into prospective. This is the best video on Y tube.

DRaceNut this is true. Space shuttles pull around 3.5-4 G’s at lift, these things pull 5 off the start and 6-7 when the throw the parachutes. They literally have pads built into their fire suits to keep the bucked from bruising them

I've always wanted to get into one of those off-road super trucks. How much fun to go flying off a hill and land like you're floating to the ground!? All that suspension travel is just so cool. What a kick! I've done the straight line groove, but that dirt truck looks insanely fun.

I'll tell you one thing. People see 3 second funny cars side by side and never really get a perspective of just how fast those bitches go with a person controlling it.
You sure see it here and it's so friggin awesome. I've watched Cruz for twenty years and the old bastard is throwing down .8 reactions... anything less than .4 being a red light for guessing the tree versus reacting to it.(human eye to hand is .4 seconds at it's fastest so if you go faster, you're launching before it's technically possible to see a green to go)
God it's gotta be tough as a racer to watch the rabbit go down the track while your greyhound sits, eating a gallon and a half of nitro methane per minute versus its race gobbling of 1 1/2 gallons of fuel PER SECOND. God the "gotta catch him, gotta catch him" feeling must be intense as hell.

in the funny car was interesting. You can clearly hear exactly how the lock up clutch is working. Goes direct drive at about 600 feet.
Years ago I saw a ‘fact’ saying that if a car were to be traveling at a constant 200mph and a top fuel car were to be sitting still but set off the instant the car passed, it would catch up and pass it before the end of the strip. This is as close to that scenario as you’d possibly get, it’s pretty cool to see it. Really shows you how insanely fast those cars really are

My god that funny car is insane how quickly it caught up and beat that killer SCT. Having the SCT down the track with a 6 second jump gives some serious perspective on how quick that funny car actually goes down the track. That was fun to watch. Too bad I can't afford Snap-On tools.

& will do zero to 120nph in ONE SECOND.!!
& in the first 21 feet the car hits over 70mph

In reading some of the comments, if you have never been to an NHRA pro-classes event (as versus the sportsman classes), I highly encourage you to attend at least one in your life. It will set new benchmarks by which you will measure things. The Top Fuel Dragster and Top Fuel Funny Cars will redefine and set the bar for your definition of "loud" - 10,000 unmuffled horsepower - per vehicle - has a way of doing that...And make no mistake, this IS rocket science. Titanium everything. Nitromethane fuel - chemically related to trinitrotoluene (also known as TNT) - that flows into the engine at the rate that water flows out of a garden hose - turned all the way on. A supercharger designed to feed an 18-wheeler's engine. Foot-and-a-half wide tires that can withstand the centrifugal forces associated with speeds over 300 miles per hour at the top end of the track.10,000HP and 300+MPH. No wonder nitro freaks aren't impressed with wimpy 900hp NASCAR engines (and 200 mph). Or Indy Car engines. Or F1 engines. Or off-road racing truck engines. Or...About a month ago I attended this year's event at Englishtown, NJ, after being away for several years. The sound is so deafening that, if you're anywhere near the starting line the instant they go to wide open throttle (WOT), you have to have your fingers in your ears. I forgot to do so - but only for that first pass - my ears imediately were ringing.There is simply no way that audio/video equipment can capture and reproduce anything like "the sound". To get remotely close to doing so, I suggest the following. Empty the house - no women, no children, no pets. Turn your audio bass all the way up. Turn your TV's volume all the way up - then turn your cable box's volume all the way up. Turn your subwoofer all the way up, then turn your surround sound system volume all the way up. Run the audio through your $10,000 stereo system and turn the power amp up to "11". You now have a very weak approximation of the godawful hell that is created when a supercharged, nitro-burning, 500-cubic inch NHRA fuel engine goes FWOT.

TRUE NHRA Nitro & Top Fuel enthusiasts may not be impressed by an F1 engine's power output, but they have to appreciate the COMPLETE and utter efficiency that is the 2014+ F1 Hybrid K.E.R.S. Turbocharged V6 Power Units.
I have been to almost every type of racing event except Top Fuel Dragster & F1 and I would WAD (Without A Doubt) chose F1 as my first choice based off of pure respect for the most technologically advanced racing class in current existence (except for Le Mans 24hr).
Speed is great but everything is EVERYTHING !
Went to my first this this month at Maple Grove Raceway in PA, left me speechless. And I caught finish line and starting line right against the gate.
