I avoid subscriptions so - as part of Descript - this isn’t for me. But as a one-time plugin purchase for my DAW? I’d seriously consider it.
You mentioned how it approaches things like a document editor would and I see value in that for me. I do a lot of text editing for teams in my org. The beauty of throwing an initial draft into Word or Grammarly is, in an instant and at a glance, I can see some potential areas for an initial round of clean-up. I might not agree with all the suggestions, but I appreciate the digital red flags, especially on long documents.
Having a tool look at an hour-long podcast interview and help me clear out some of the low-hanging fruit while I do the more thorough or detailed editing on my own intrigues me. The AI decision of what isn’t relevant is more of a problem for me, but I don’t have to approve those suggested changes.
As you say, this tool at times appears to look at things in a print style of editing versus speaking style. But if you understand that going in, I think there are potential benefits to be gained, especially as the tool improves.

Same here with subscriptions. Once Descript figures out how to train the AI to focus more on the macro elements and less on the micro, they will have a strong tool. I've had to work with clients on that. They want to make things grammatically perfect, and the way we speak doesn't always make that possible. It requires a mindshift for humans because we have been conditioned to edit text much differently than we speak. Good text based editing still requires us to listen to hear if the edit works. The humans at Descript need to learn and understand this so they can start to train the robots to learn and understand. Once they do, they'll completely disrupt the podcast editing space.
