  • I finally get out in February's inclement weather and bring you my thoughts on my newly acquired BMW Scrambler - a misnomer if ever there was!
    A jolly pleasant, irreverent ramble.
    Come along for the ride.

Greetings and love from Mother Russia! I have landed here from the video with Motobob and I must say I got completely lost in the moment with your channel. The way you ride is exactly the way I love to ride and even more - that is what riding is for me. I've done my duty as a city hooligan and got tired of riding stiff and stressed with my arse over my head. I have also found joy in taking beaten paths and gravel roads and green lanes. Exploring. Without a rush. Needless to say I subscribed just to warm my heart.
I fell in love with the Scrambler XE last year when I rented one out for a day. I felt that it lacked some power though so I am also looking at the BMW Scrambler with Wilbers suspension. Although I heard that there's an aftermarket crankshaft, an air filter and a tune that can get around 15 horses on top of the Triumph.
Could you advise what you would personally suggest having ridden both of those? Would you go with the Triumph engine tweaking or for the BMW suspension upgrade? Aren't you missing the Triumph songs? And thank you for the soul warming rides. Please keep going!

Great to read your thoughts and a big thank you 🙏
      Which would I choose?
With the best suspension upgrades, I would go with the BMW, but that’s a highly personal view, both are very good bikes indeed and for pure motorcycling enjoyment in the real world, up with the best.
      Have fun 🤩

Great to see the old Exeter Road again. I used to take the old road from Cullompton into Tiverton and then ride on down from there. Good to see you back on the bike 👍🏻

Ah, I watched the vids in the wrong order. Watched the 2nd one before this, hence the question re suspension. I absolutely agree with you on the suspension. BMW should have produced the entire RNineT range with better suspension. I also think they could have made the whole thing taller like the old air/oil cooled GS, thus producing something really quite Paris - Dakar (like some of the after market body kits in fact. (Unit Garage etc). I have ridden a RNineT Urban GS with Wilbers and it was a big improvement. It wasn't set up for me, but had adjustability. Now.......if you can sort the suspension and find that sweet spot, I will follow in your tracks ol'boy and get one myself! Like you, I have had the latest (or recently latest) 1250GS amongst other things with the TFT and all the tech, but I also prefer these more 'analogue' machines. I wonder what the new RNineT range will be like? Will they offer a suspension option at least? Let's see..... I take it you have seen this? ruclips.net/video/dKwC5pU5PDc/видео.html

All very valid points and agree fully.
If my bike had good quality suspension it would be such a good bike - I’m not worried about taking it off road.
Anything above 150 kilos starts to struggle off road.
It’s so misleading being fed big adventure bikes being ridden by top riders off road.
I’m far from sure which way to go.
I bought at a very good price so am exceptionally cautious spending a fortune on mods that might work.
I’ll do a vid with my thoughts between my 9t and previous triumph 1200xe
And for amusement I’ll do one comparing my bike with my Smart Cabrio 😂😂😂
As you say let’s see 👍

Loved this mate, great to see you out and about enjoying the roads. I would definitely get the adjustments to make the bike more comfortable as these little niggles can be the difference between wanting to go out for a ride and not

      Many thank yous James 🙏🙏🙏
I’ve lots to think about with this and I have to careful about wanting perfection, whatever that is.
      It’s potentially a fabulous machine 😊👍

I have Wilbers rear shock on my r9t roadster and it is night and day difference, best mod I’ve ever done. Totally transforms the bike, smoothes out the dreadful road surfaces and massively improves the handling through corners- unlocks the bike’s potential basically. Pier City ordered and installed it for me, great guys. I’d also recommend the side pannier from SW Motech, v useful and in keeping with the aesthetic. It’s just annoying to have to make the effort

That’s really interesting Marcus - were you tempted to change the front to Wilbers as well
They do a complete front back for mine plus 70 mm higher - more suspension travel.
      But it’s nearly £3k

I didn't bother changing the front, the roadster has adjustable front suspension from the original RR sport bike and I didn't need the extra travel. But after fixing the rear you can feel the front more if that makes sense. I'd suggest swapping the rear out first and see how you go, but if you want the extra travel then yes it gets expensive. For mine the rear shock was about £600 ish, so less than a fancy exhaust.

Thanks Jerry, now I’ve had time to think (and ride more) the suspension is a big problem - I love the rest of the bike but the solution (maybe) is so expensive at £3k for the full setup - let’s see 👍

@@FarmerTorque My R9T/5 rear suspension and front suspension was a bit soft and little bouncy but okay for my weight at 175 pounds. I prefer a little softer and comfortable on my back and kidneys. I'm little surprised your suspension was so stiff.

    • @FarmerTorque
      @FarmerTorque  6 месяцев назад +1

Damping is set as soft as it can be but is viscous over any imperfections - but will see

Sometimes I think I want another bike but then I remember the aches and pains in the knee and back, and the distant memory of the cat like reactions and throttle control I needed on the R1...

Nice to see you on the r nine t,I wanted one but got the gs instead,I also got the 1200xe but it really didn't do anything for me, so went back to bmw,now have a s1000xr, it's bloody quick😊

A standard 1200xe would leave me a bit cold now Ian.
This one is going to be interesting- it has one huge fault (see the vid) but that can be solved
Just going to cost £3k to do the mods
Big decision, but would probably then be my favourite bike ever 😳

    • @FarmerTorque

That’s a big question Steve - basically no because at the time I just wasn’t using it.
I’ll try and do a comparison chat - now I’ve done a few miles on the BM
Both good bikes - both good and not so good bits

Great rambling sir! So yes back to that big fat elephant... Absolutely appalling suspension and especially on a premium priced BMW... what were they thinking, profit obviously only!
As I said previously I looked at spending some serious money on upgrading and possibly lifting, but decided to trade in and purchased a Ducati Scrambler 1100 sport and it’s a revelation in the handling and comfort in comparison (ohlins for you)
So...sod BMW you got it wrong and hello Ducati world.
Will be interesting to see how you fair?
