I know of the different pathways with the straight IR residency being relatively new. It used to be you became a radiologist first then do an IR fellowship. The title of the video caught my eye hoping to see a day in the life of an interventional radiologist. But, nothing about that in the video. Hope to see a followup video of an interventional radiologist in action
This is exactly what being an interventional radiology resident looks like the first 3 years. As a practicing IR, you will still spend whole days or weeks reading diagnostic, unless you have a very rare 100% IR job. If you prefer not to read diagnostic, I recommend a surgical residency.
Most interesting. I have a lot of respect for what you do in your given field of practice. I see Interventional Radiologists , every five months or so, to replace my J Tube. Tbh, it is not really good for her. As soon as she knows that she's pregnant, she won't be able to do IR in a lab, due to radiation. After delivery, she'll be on 3 months confinement. All in all, one full year without IR. This specialty/sub-specialty is very technology-dependant too. New, advanced devices keep coming out rapidly, some of which require live training in lab. Not to mention new techniques & discoveries which be presented during conferences, seminars & live lab-training globewide. It will let her in disadvantage for not doing & getting involved in IR for a year. Plus, it will take time for her to be familiar again after a year. Just imagine not being able to ride a motorcycle for a year. Then sit on & ride a motorcycle in a heavy traffic after a year. However, if she really into it, then ok.
