    I feel like I owe my life to a radiologist! I went in for my yearly check up & on my lung X-ray he detected emphysema changes due to Alpha one. I did blood work & I do have alpha one anti-trypsin ZZ. I appreciate everything y’all do! Thank you so much!

      How is your emphysema being treated?

    • @lisakay8288
      @lisakay8288 6 лет назад +13

      Chris W I have two choices. One is to take a daily dose of prednisone and antibiotic or do a weekly blood plasma infusion. I do the blood infusions. I also have to be real cautious with my surroundings like not breathing in smoke or something as simple as not going into a nail salon cause I can’t breathe the fumes. There’s no real way to stop the growth of my emphysema and yes I will wind up on oxygen one day but hopefully not anytime soon.

    I know of the different pathways with the straight IR residency being relatively new. It used to be you became a radiologist first then do an IR fellowship. The title of the video caught my eye hoping to see a day in the life of an interventional radiologist. But, nothing about that in the video. Hope to see a followup video of an interventional radiologist in action

    • @awest005

      This is exactly what being an interventional radiology resident looks like the first 3 years. As a practicing IR, you will still spend whole days or weeks reading diagnostic, unless you have a very rare 100% IR job. If you prefer not to read diagnostic, I recommend a surgical residency.

  • @ledzepgirlnmful

    Most interesting. I have a lot of respect for what you do in your given field of practice.
    I see Interventional Radiologists , every five months or so, to replace my J Tube. I really appreciate the care given, although it's the staff that get's you prepped, makes sure you are comfortable and supported. The IR Doc's that I've had over the past 5 years seem to be a bit 'cold'...more so than other doctors that I routinely see for my care. And, that's unfortunate. I appreciate how busy they can be, but then, so are the other physicians. I've also had my Bard Powerport placed by an Interventional Radiologist as well.
    I do appreciate the work that IR does however, truly, I do.

      Tbh, it is not really good for her. As soon as she knows that she's pregnant, she won't be able to do IR in a lab, due to radiation. After delivery, she'll be on 3 months confinement. All in all, one full year without IR.
      This specialty/sub-specialty is very technology-dependant too. New, advanced devices keep coming out rapidly, some of which require live training in lab. Not to mention new techniques & discoveries which be presented during conferences, seminars & live lab-training globewide.
      It will let her in disadvantage for not doing & getting involved in IR for a year. Plus, it will take time for her to be familiar again after a year. Just imagine not being able to ride a motorcycle for a year. Then sit on & ride a motorcycle in a heavy traffic after a year.
      However, if she really into it, then ok. Focus on imaging side for a year.

      Choose some other specialty/sub-specialty for your post-graduate study & training later on.
      Cardiology/cardiothoracic surgery/gastro would be good choices too.

    • @junkonakamura3441
      @junkonakamura3441 4 года назад

      No. That's not a soon-to-be radiologist's job. Far from it. 'a person with open wounds or broken bones' will be attended to by different specialists who underwent different post-graduate study & training.
      But of course he assisted those specialists when he was a junior doctor who has yet to choose his specialty/sub-specialty.

    Does Radiology residency actually take 6 years??? I thought it was 4

    • @joesmith4496
      @joesmith4496 5 лет назад +1

      This is an integrated interventional radiology residency, one of the most difficult residencies to obtain. It’s a surgical specialty where they perform minimally invasive surgeries with the use of imaging equipment. Diagnostic radiology is what you are thinking of. They don’t perform surgery.

      - 4 years of pre med i think,
      - then 4 years of med school
      - then 1 year as an intern (only for radiology)
      - and 4 years of radiology residency
      - then 1 year of fellowship or sub specialize (optional)
