More studies show that cholesterol isn’t a good indicator of heart disease. LDL isn’t bad. The type of LDL is more important than the amount. Small high density LDL is bad but large fluffy LDL is fine.

I’ve been doing keto for 2yrs now, I started at 57yo, I’m now 59 and 60lbs lighter. One thing I noticed is when I ate meats my cholesterol shot up, but when I started eating fish and chicken as my protein my cholesterol would drop about 40 points. So my cholesterol was up at 261 then down to 223, normal hdl and triglycerides, my ldl slightly elevated and my doctor still wanted to have me take a statin🙄. I said no thanks, I’ll continue to try and bring it down with my diet.

They say that the skinnier the person is, the greater increase in LDL they will have on keto diet (together with high HDL and low triglycerides). Have you notice such correlation in your practice? If overweight person goes keto, LDL drops, but if healthy skinny person does the same LDL goes sky high?

Well I nearly had it right, lots of salad and veg, reduced fruit to berries, removed ultra processed, reduced dairy, but kept greek yoghurt, upped avocados, fish and nuts, tried to get grain free, no potatoes, limited alcohol, intermittent fasting, took vitamins and minerals, virtually only drink water.
    Result..
Lost weight, lost hair, blood work is nearly brilliant, feel great.
Cholesterol went really high, never had a problem with it before.
Prescribed statins, but have said I intend to change my diet, re
test, and see if there is a difference.
So less meat for me for the next few months, and stricter check on my cooking.
Shame the nice piece of meat made the rest of the diet bareable.

You need to have a blood panel that differentiates Small Dense LDL (sdLDL) vs Large LDL (lbLDL) particles and not just give a general LDL result. Small are the killers. Large are less likely to contribute to the development of atherosclerosis. So you may have high LDL it is not a real problem if they are primarily Large particles.

    • @JayL-cr3zr

Very good point and saturated fats in dairy have been shown not to contribute significantly towards the small dense right? Do you know if the doctors offer a test to differentiate between the 2?

    • @missyasche881
      @missyasche881 2 месяца назад

@@JayL-cr3zr there is a more I depth test to find out particle size, but from my experience, Drs don't just offer it, you have to ask. Even then some Drs won't order it.
My LDL is very high (197) but instead of offering more in depth panels, my Dr office just called warning me my cholesterol is very high and ordered medication. I refused b/c my triglycerides are 68 (higher than I like them) and my HDL is 87.
My lipid panel was not done during a fasted state, and I have enjoyed a few trips to the ice cream shop this summer, which I hadn't done in 6 yrs!

I just started taking fiber powder and upping my protein and I am going to begin to lower saturated fat but replace it with the other fats you mentioned. So, not long enough to see a change in my LDL yet but I have been on low carb for a year and it cut my triglycerides in half and my HDL is a little better now too. I also feel better on low carb but it upped my LDL so looking forward to adding fiber and poly and mono fats. Thanks for great information and for caring.

High cholesterol is not a disease. The brain is 70-80% fat and cholesterol. Has anyone looked into the almost epidemic level of alzheimers since statins were introduced? Just curious.

Wow, how dangerous to say that all you need 50 to 70 g of protein a day that’s ridiculous only 7% of your protein makes it to your muscle 7% 14 is released. Tell me the Kandrea and only 7% make it by the time it gets to muscle so you would need at least 1 g of protein per body pound to be able to even come close to maintaining lean body mass of muscle, you need to do more study on this you’re obviously deficient when it comes to knowledge on proteins see Dr. Lyons, Gabriel, Lyons, and Dr. Laymen your muscle activates at 3 grams of loosing, which is about 30 g of protein think about that a minute your body style is an ectomorph. You have a whole different profile gonna send them off. If they followed your plan, they probably die of lack of muscle you barely surviving at 50 to 75 g of protein a day.
