What about the few people with Familial Hypercholesterolemia? My physician grandfather is suspected to have died of this with a fatal first heart attack at age 39 in 1949. My Dad, his son, diagnosed with FH, had his first bypass in his 40's. Is keto safe if your LDLreceptors have the genetic malfunction caused by FH?

I drove too, for about 3 years over the road. I was overweight already, and I gained 80lbs in 3 years. Horrible food, no exercise. Last year my Dr prescribed metformin for diabetes. I took it for 2 days and saw some videos by Dr Berry and Dr Jason Fung on intermittent fasting. Stopped taking the metformin immediately and started low carb and IF. Initially it wasn't full blown Keto, just low carb. I lost about 45 lbs in 10 months, but kind of stalled there. I went Full Keto and OMAD and started losing again. Down about 75lbs total now and my A1C is now under 5. Still got about 50 more pounds to go to get to my goal weight of 175. Thanks to Keto and OMAD, I actually believe I'm going to get there.

Your Total Cholesterol isn’t a useful marker.
Monitor Triglycerides and HDL. Funny enough, if you eat very low carb as Dr. Berry suggests, your triglycerides will lower and HDL will raise… as it is supposed to do.
LDL-C is also useless. You want to test the type of particles.
Hopefully, you asked for a copy of your lab results, including reference ranges. (It is your legal right to get your lab results). Then look for yourself.
Statins don’t help; more harm especially to women.

Couple of days ago I got bloodwork checked after about a year of transitioning to low carb and since February 1st just meat eggs salt water coffee. Total cholesterol more than 400, LDL a oittle over 300, HDL 67, triglycerides 107. Not scared, not concerned, not agitated. Im feeling lighter healthier greater than ever, sleep is deep and easy and waking up I jump out of bed which is a miracle. No question here. Fasting today and I at 16+ hr.'s. and it's not a problem (never have done this) - 0 carbs in 6 days - 0 sugars in 6 days - I am free, free of that old life style. I take ACV w/ 8oz water 3 times a day (that help w/any hunger pains) I am down 7 pounds. One of the most noticeable feeling is that this morning I had zero back pain. I got out of bed and could not believe how much better I was. I have resisted the VA Doctors spine fusion for years. I did not take my reg. dose of Hydrocodone. I want to thank you. I got my first complete blood work up at the VA since the COVID-19 crap and I classification of Type 2 Diabetes is gone ~ Dr was impressed w/ my report he said he couldn’t believe the #’s - he cannot remember seeing such large change - I have been going through a separation event in my life and basically been living out of 2 suitcases and a couple of bags but now I’m home again and will continue my weight loss journey- - I have been struggling with sugars late at night so I have delayed my supper until 7 or 8 pm - Fasting in AM until afternoon. All the years of poor choices in food are still a challenge - I walk about 4 + miles every other day and that helps clear the mind!

I am 67 years old. I decided to try the carnivore style menu early summer or late spring of this year. That was because I broke out in hives because of something that I was eating that my body disagreed with. The carnivore menu came to my attention And I immediately went to almost all meat. The rash and small little sores on my legs disappeared very quickly along with fluid buildup in my legs. After about three months I lost about 30 pounds. I wasn’t trying to lose weight. My waist is completely trimmed, and it looks like when I was a teenager. I recently had a physical and my blood pressure usually running in 120/80 range dropped to 100/66. My cholesterol went up to 201 which is about 15 points higher than two years ago. The nurse practitioner who did my physical said. I should try to bring my cholesterol level down. I am so thankful to find your videos. I have been a type 2 diabetic since 1997. It started as gestational diabetes while pregnant with my first child, then it came back full time after my 3rd child was born in 2004. I feel so upset at the lies I have been told over the years from doctors and nutrition classes. The last 10 years I have been desperate to lose weight trying everything. I love to exercise and for the last 5 years I have been going to the gym at 5:00 am to help lose weight. I have not lost 1 pound in 5 years. I will say it has helped my blood sugar to be somewhat lower. I have tried every diabetic medicine and after countless UTI’s, stomach issues they gave up and put me on metformin and insulin. And then it seemed as if I was gaining weight no matter what I did. My feet would hurt like they were inflamed all the time. I was tested for neuropathy but told I didn’t have that I had some thing called reynauds syndrome. They told me to keep my feet and hands warm and I would be fine. Well to this day they hurt and burn all night. I’m sure it’s inflammation. I take a handful of pills every night and my doctor says i need it all for prevention because of my family history. I have always thought why am I taking cholesterol medicine and high blood pressure pills when I have never had those things. Finally my doctor gave up on me and my complaining and told me the only thing I can suggest for you is gasteral bypass surgery. I’m probably about 50 lbs overweight. I thought you had to be like a 100 lbs over weight to have that surgery. At first it seemed so drastic to me but I will have to admit about a month ago I felt desperate enough to inquire about it. I didn’t do it but I can’t explain the amount of desperation I feel. I am trying my hardest to do keto and I have lost 4 lbs! I also stopped taking my insulin and have kept my blood sugar at a even healthy level. I WILL NEVER TAKE INSULIN AGAIN IN MY LIFE NO MATTER WHAT ANYBODY SAYS. They made me feel like I would die without it. I still take the 2000 mg of metformin and I would like more info on how to gradually get off that and also get off some of my other medications. If you could address that in a video that would be wonderful. Thanks again for all your help. You are literally saving lives. Tonia

The fact that healthcare practitioners wonder why patients are non-compliant but never think to ask is very telling. I just shed my immunologist because she takes personal offense when I refuse the litany of prescription meds she offers (I was receiving allergy shots for tree allergy). She tells me that sometimes "knowing too much is not good, my Drs are the experts and I should learn to behave like a patient." I'm a disabled RN (under 60yrs) and my quality of life and course of disease management is sub-par. I take one medication as bandaid for a symptom and two more medications for the side effects caused by the original medication. I lost it after 3 yrs and loudly told her about herself in January and one week ago I just came off an antidiabetic drug, while still on inhaled steroids. I'm going to improve my health status without her and with my determined change in eating habits and avoidance of toxin laiden lifestyle.

Also because it’s now boiling, I take the temperature down from high to about 7 or 8, which is about medium or between high and medium. A little knowledge is dangerous. A well read doctor will tell you recent studies show that statins perform a role of anchoring/stabilizing regions of plaque buildup by affecting the arterial lumen. While Dr B is absolutely right about the CAUSE of the buildup (which is what he was talking about...essentially diabetes and its onset), IMO you're ("we"? Is he on life support to where he's incapable of making his own health decisions?) writing hubby an Rx for a stroke if he's been diagnosed with atherosclerosis. I'm not a doctor, but know what my doc, the chief of cardiology for a large healthcare outfit, told me.

I am an MD and would NEVER take a statin. Unfortunately it is one big scam. I would venture to say the majority of MDs just listen to what the good looking drug rep states about efficacy. This is twisted and they compare relative risk and not absolute to make it look like a 40% improvement when it is actually less than 1%. Check out youtube talks by Dr. David Diamond. My last visit with my doctor at VA I told her that I'm not taking a statin. They have never done the particle test, or the calcium test, or the ultra sound, before prescribing the drug. They are basing my dads death and a lipid panel on my risk, they didnt even look into why my cholesterol is high to begin with...and seriously what constituents state what is "normal". If the FDA, AMA, etc requires proof that this or that is right or wrong, normal or abnormal, than SO DO I! Do the damned tests, until then stick your statin straight up your butt! I've known for a long time the pharmas are the ones changing and lowering the numbers for BP, Triglycerides and cholesterol in order to put people on more medication... I've been on keto before and lowered my numbers and I and I know it works... This is going to be my way of life starting now!

I'm glad for you if it works for you but being a very strict Vegan for 2 whole years made my health much, much worse. And I was eating fruits and vegetables and whole grains and hardly any fat at all and I had worsening diabetes, high blood pressure, neuropathy, kidney disease, thyroid disease, retinitis in my eyes plus I had a heart attack. Today I eat a high fat, moderate protein, low carb diet and all those problems are gone and I'm off all that insulin and all those meds and not having to get shots in my eyeballs anymore. Like steak and prime rib and lobster and crab legs dipped in hot butter and shrimp and burgers and butter and lard and chicken and turkey and duck and cheese and bacon and eggs and ham and pork chops and sausage and roast beef and pork loin and pork chops and all the other good stuff God designated for HUMANS to eat. Well I hope you fry your taters in lard because corn oil and canola oil and other seed oils are toxic. And apple pie is just junk food loaded with harmful oils and gluten and sugar. I never eat junk food. And if you think a cabbage sandwich and beans is good eating then you probably grew up poor and maybe unable to afford decent food. That stuff is for homeless people in a shelter. I can't eat that stuff. And I assume if you think apple pie is health food you were probably eating hot dogs for health when you were a carnivore. But I wish you luck in your endeavor to live that very dull and boring culinary lifestyle if that is what you choose or it's all you can afford. But as for me, give me the corpse of a big ol' Maine Lobster and some hot butter and I'll be fine and much healthier. Good luck!

Overall, I felt fine. About 6 months ago I stated keto. Keto felt right for me. I've cut fast food, processed foods, cut grains way back, so keto was too hard. My point is went to doctor last week. He did a CBC, another test non fasting which checked colesterial. My colesterial was 200 . If had been 102 last time checked. Doctor called me later that day to tell me he has ordered double th dosage of Atorvastatin (40mg). I reminded him that I stopped that med and why. He said the mud won't cause that symptoms. She was upset that he yelled at & was upset with her (since he already knows she doesn't want to take cholesterol meds). Another great video Dr. Berry! My provider is pretty decent and does at least listen to me but he still freaked a bit at my LDL going up 100 points after a year on a LCHF diet (it was already flagging pretty "high" since I quit a statin 3 years ago). With some persuasion I got him to order an actual NMR. This read my LDL even higher (a few points north of 300) but not a single one of my actual particle counts flagged outside of spec. My triglycerides were in double digits (down from north of 200 on the SAD). My HDL was 76 (up from the low 40's on the SAD). At 5'11" I've gone from a blubbery 232lbs to an almost lean 176. My blood pressure, which was never super high, is the best it's been in 30 years at 110/68. Upon receiving the NMR results my doc then wanted to send me to a "vascular specialist," calling my cholesterol "horrendous." 😂😂😂. I told him to relax and look up what a "hyper responder" is in the low carb community and that I'd just roll the dice and we could do a CAC at next year's physical if he wants (I had one 3 1/2 years ago and scored a big fat ZERO, which was the final prompting to get off statins after 20 years).
It really is sad what Big Pharma and Big Food has done to human health! Keep fighting the good fight!

@8:20 Things to watch out for to decrease your risk for Heart Attack, Stroke, etc...
    1) Height To Waist Ratio: Waist in inches divided by height in inches should be less than .5
    2) High Triglycerides (150 MG/DL or more): Cut out fructose, sugar, starches, and simple carbs.
    3) Fasting Insulin Level
    4) HbA1c (Hemoglobin A1c)
    @12:00 Inflammation Markers:
    1) C-reactive Protein (CRP)
    2) Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR)
    3) Ferritin Blood Levels
    4) C-Peptide Levels (similar to Fasting Insulin Test without the fasting)

I was on a statins for years and it really effected my memory. Since I’ve been off them for the past year I’m not having the those issues anymore.

Really? Me too. My memory has gotten terrible since I went on statins. Did not know this.

@@nancydavis7499 Make sure you supplement with COQ10, not taking this with statins can cause many complications as statins stop the body from producing it.

Leslie W. Stand your grounds. You know that we nurses have more knowledge when it comes to nutrition. I am an LPN of 36 years. My PA prescribed me a statin, which I have yet to take. When I go in for my next checkup, I will use this information that Dr. Berry gave us as my defense as to why I refuse to take the statin. Remember, it is Your RIGHT to refuse care, just as well to accept care.

Thanks for the usual great content Dr Berry. I have consistent high ldl numbers that hover just under 500. I do get my bloodwork done twice per year and these numbers have been consistent for over 5 years now since I started a ketogenic lifestyle that was very strict that turned into a full on carnivore lifestyle of predominantly beef and fat for the last 3 years. This video comforts me in feeling that Im on the right track.

You are high risk for cardio vascular disease, fact. Please research this more as all the lab trials have shown high LDLc is a direct risk factor. Ken Berry hasn’t supported his opposing theories with equivalent evidence he just talks and often at the end asks for money, I think you can work out for yourself his real motive

I have developed the same high LDL problem on carnivore after 3 months. Just over 400. What kind of test can one get to determine if it is because of that Familial High Cholesterol condition? My HDL is 109, triglycerides are 53, and VLDL is 11. No one really talks about LDL being this high.

Thank you so very much for all of the fantastic Keto information! My husband and I are in our 50's and have been in the Keto diet for about 1 year now. I have lost over 50 lbs. and my husband has lost over 20 lbs. He went off of his statin high cholesterol medication several months ago and just had his blood work done up. This week he received his blood work results.
Everything except his cholesterol levels was normal. The Triglycerides went down from 232 to 97. The LDL went up from 166 to 250 and the HDL went up from 47 to 58. His cholesterol went from 259 to 327. Is 327 a means for concern? Dr. Berg is one of our favorites! :)

I’ve been told from a NHS health worker that if I have a heart problem while away abroad on holiday, you won’t be covered by your insurance for refusing treatment for high cholesterol i.e. Statins etc.. I don’t take anything and I feel better than I’ve ever felt for a long time, I’m on a carnivore lifestyle. My Hb A1c has gone down from 48 to 37 👍
