PLEASE react to more of Kimbra. She is one of the best vocalists of our generation. All her live performances are amazing. Especially the sing sing studios ones

She is overlaying her own vocals and looping them. Most famous thing she’s done was Somebody that I Used to Know with Gotye.

Loved this! She's a great singer and sang on Goyte's "Somebody that I used to know" but as you can see there is more to her.

You neeeed to hear her song ‘wandering limbs’ live with Sam Lawrence down an alleyway - goosebumps and chills every time. His voice with hers, and their harmonies are just 🤯

She’s the background lol. She has a soundboard in front of her so she can loop her voice.

Just loved how she built up her own backing by using one microphone to record the various loops of backing, then using the other to sing the song. Have seen a few people doing this with drums and other effects but not a voice, awesome!

Kimbra is the female vocalist from "Somebody That I Used To Know", yes. The Sing Sing session was around the same time, and it's like 10 years old at this point. You should do a follow-up on some of her new stuff. Her 4th studio album "A Reckoning" just dropped ("Vows", "The Golden Echo", and "Primal Heart" are other others), and she did a promo concert with Glasshaus Presents back in December/January. Yes that’s the girl from the song with Gotye “Somebody That You Used To Know”. But her solo stuff is nowhere near as popular. Which is a shame. I love this song and totally forgot it existed haha

"First time listening"? I know the US has been sheltered from much NZ and Oz music (I found Crowded House in the World Music section in a NY music store) but if you didn't hear Gotye and Kimbra with "Somebody that I Used to Know" then you must've been hiding under a rock.

I think it needs mentioning that this was a Nina Simone song which, of course, is very good in its own right. But to really know how good Kimbra's version of it is, you have to go listen to the original.

this is one of my favorite performances of hers. It's so raw and beautiful, technical and freeform. All the vocal harmonies are her looping into an effects module. It doesn't matter how many times i hear it, as soon as she gets to the skatting part around 6:57 i burst out in happy tears. The energy release is palpable. Her band also deserves praise for being so in the pocket and letting her do her thing.

One of my faves. Every time I revisit the performance...chills. The looping harmonies, the soul, the range, the power, the connection with the music; just amazing. Technically they may have cut two or three performances together, but still amazing.
