The best and one of the sweetest love story I’ve ever heard in my life! The man has 7 children and widower... and the woman a nun-to-be. The impossible becomes the possible.
I'm a great fan of SOM. 10yrs gap between old and new version. But this version has more natural acting, singing and more details.. 1965 version has more modern musical ,beautiful landscape and the beautiful chemistry between Julia and Chris...Both version are very nice in their way. But finding this 1956 version is like finding 💎
When this came up, I expected very little and was just as blown away by its quality as you were. It's a beautiful little film with fine acting and, as we all know, a wonderful story.
"... The most decent Film 🎥 l have ever seen!..The Sound of Music".. said my Dad, and he was 87- years of age then... I second the motion.👍..saw it when I was 16...'am 71- now
Captain Von Trapp was 25 years older than Maria. He died in 1947(aged 67) Maria died in 1987 (aged 82).We stayed at the Trapp Family Lodge(in Vermont) in the early 1970's and met many of the family, including Maria!
I had an opportunity to interact with a Maria von Trapp, except that she said she was the youngest daughter of the senior Maria. She was promoting music CDs of the siblings - this was in the early 90s.
Hi. Just click the captions button on the bottom right of the RUclips screen. If in the mobile app, tap the video, then click the three dots in the top right and "captions" will be one of the options. Select "english."
***** I actually prefer to watch movies in their original language with subtitles. I find movies with English voiceovers offputting in the way the dialogue doesn't match up to the mouths moving. Though I wish someone would put subtitles for the sequel to this movie so I could see it
Awwwwwwwww Herr von Trapp is cute- 'I can't stay here!' 'Naturally, unless...' 'Unless you also like me a little?' AWWWWWWWWWWWW he's not so big and scary after all :DD
I'm completely distracted by the fact that at around 4:29, middle of the line of children, one girl's elbow meets the chin of the boy next to her. Smack! And he just keeps going with acting, what a trooper.
Btw, thanks for the upload! I've never seen the musical film (I feel like I'm a rarity in the UK) but was asked to find a clip to show my students in English class. In doing so I stumbled across this and found it so compelling I ended up watching the whole thing! The subs are great, especially some small extra culture notes (like the "cut-up flag" being another name for the Swastika), as I know ZERO German, language or culture. I think watching it in German was much more powerful and authentic than what I assume the musical remake to be like. The US immigration man with an American accent whilst speaking German was incredible! Thanks again~ :)
...when I was in my early teens, I made the acquaintance of the first “Non Trapps” - the Petersens. They had moved to Ohio from Stowe, Vermont, where they had worked and sung with the von Trapps.
A lovely nun who melts the hearts of 7 motherless kids & their widowed father all of whom ultimately escape together from the evil Nazi's? Can a story line get any better?
I like this German-Austrian version much better than the musical Sound of Music. It is more realistic. They eliminate the teenage girl who is a subplot and unnecessary. And the actress who plays Maria convinces me she could have once had a vocation as a nun. Julie Andrews did not convince me of that. Of course, the songs of S of M are wonderful, but the acting in this film outdoes the Sound of Music in my opinion.
I agree 1000 percent. This version with the acting and actors was more believable. I enjoyed it immensely without all that Hollywood glitter added on. The singing was outstanding. I’ve never heard this kind of singing before. They sounded like angels singing.
I can't help but think that the subplot in The Sound of Music was "invented" to make it a bit more a movie of its own, otherwise it would be much more obvious that it was a copy of this one.
I’m enjoying this. Dare I say much more entertaining than The Sound Of Music (although I will always enjoy Christopher Plummer as Captain Von Trapp) and I recognise the Priest from the Sissi movies.
Vania Ake That's something a little lost in translation. It's not the whole truth that he is "verliebt" (to have fallen in love) , but that he loves her (lieben), which is more powerful.
4:38 =OMG!!! I LOVE THE DRESS!!! It doesn't look old... It's classic!!! At least the cut and silhouette... At 5:04, just a wee bit of prob with the top... Edit at 5:16 =Never mind... Just the pattern arrangement, but the cut is better... I still love it... Edit at 7:32 =Now looking at the shot, I understand why it works and I'm in love with it!!!
There’s an anime of this story- I watched that first, but I like the original more :) the anime version had different songs in Japanese but the story is as warm and comforting as this one- and somewhat longer.
Not in all European cultures, but in the German and Austrian for sure. They also wear the wedding band on the left hand when they are engaged. The band of greenery is also part of the older rituals. It signified that the bride was a virgin. My great aunt had a child before marrying the father and my great grandmother would not allow her to wear the band of greenery.
I watched this movie on a film theatre when I was 9 years old. But that time every couple engaged to be marry needs a chaperone; when they went out for fun. I was sometimes chosen to be a chaperone for my brother and his future wife. Another times 😂😂😂😂
In most countries in Europe, the wedding rings are worn on the left hand during their engagement, and carried into church on a silver tray,The rings are then put on the right hand ring fingers during the wedding ceremony.Sweden and Denmark ( but not Norway) have engagement rings like the British and Americans, and wedding rings are worn on the left hand ring finger. In Denmark both bride and bridegroom are given wedding rings and this is becoming more common in Britain.I think Germany ,Austria and the Netherlands wear rings on their right ring finger ,but I don't know about France
Ich muss so weinen! Es ist so Wunder-wunderschön und voller echter Menschlichkeit und nicht so kalt, hinterhältig wie viele hier! I was born in 1956,had no idea this existed,a lovely discovery.
I just love this movie it’s so genuine

Yes this story is closer to the truth, but both a wonderful versions.
The wedding dress was really beautiful and so feminine ❤
"... The most decent Film 🎥 l have ever seen!..The Sound of Music"..

Wow that’s amazing
Wow

😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
I love this version. Like how quick the captain and Maria love story escalated.
Ein wunderschönes Paar, ein ergreifender Film !
How do you put subtitles on

"Don't even try to lie to me. you can't do it properly" lmao I'm enjoying this
***** I actually prefer to watch movies in their original language with subtitles. I find movies with English voiceovers offputting in the way the dialogue doesn't match up to the mouths moving. Though I wish someone would put subtitles for the sequel to this movie so I could see it
My favorite part also.

Nice spot! (Four from the right hits three from the right if you missed it.)

Beautiful.

Eileen Pollock I agree with you fully.
I agree
And I like this George much better
I can't help but think that the subplot in The Sound of Music was "invented" to make it a bit more a movie of its own, otherwise it would be much more obvious that it was a copy of this one.
I love the wedding dress!!
i love how the children indirectly gets involved with georg and maria's love story
Very nice affect when at 7:37 they kneel and all seven of the children can be seen watching. Nice film work.
I love her dress.
Me too.
I recommended my partner to wear such a wedding dress at the wedding ceremony.
I’m enjoying this. Dare I say much more entertaining than The Sound Of Music (although I will always enjoy Christopher Plummer as Captain Von Trapp) and I recognise the Priest from the Sissi movies.
Wunderbar, wunderbar, wunderbar❤️❤️❤️❤️
I had no idea this existed!
Actually it is. The real family exist. They have great grandchildren already.
Neither are any of them available for sale yet.
Oh the doctor! The actor played in Sissi with Romy Schneider!
the cutest Austrian movie
best movie ever I still watch it
"She said you love me. Is that true?"
"No. At least not the whole truth"
Haha what is that even mean?
Vania Ake That's something a little lost in translation. It's not the whole truth that he is "verliebt" (to have fallen in love) , but that he loves her (lieben), which is more powerful.
I laughed when he says "At least not the whole truth" while grinning 😂
@@NoNoTheGreenOne SO basically, it's not "I have fallen for you", but I "I love you already"...
A normal weddingdress for church. Long sleeves, never bling bling, a little myrthes in the hair. Ein wenig Spitzen, zarter Schleier. Thats is it.
thank you
Wie süß :D
There’s an anime of this story- I watched that first, but I like the original more :) the anime version had different songs in Japanese but the story is as warm and comforting as this one- and somewhat longer.
The Trapp Family, I have watched it also! When I was 7 it's very cute too!! I loved the anime as much this and the 60s
great thanks shen
what piece is the wedding march
In Europe they put the wedding band on the right hand.
Terry Bardy 😂😂😂 I’m Italian and we always put the wedding ring on the left hand, the hand of heart!
Not in Italy.
Only in Central or eastern Europe
Except in Britain, Denmark,Sweden and Ireland. There the wedding rings are worn on the left hand finger as in the States
Ah the father is the same actor who plays a foolish policeman in Sissi
Frumos film❤❤❤❤
Does.anyine know the name of the waltz they sang at the party for "NY Society?" Thanks🌷
獨協学園の神林先生がドイツ語の歌を教えてもらったね〜 五十年前。

Another times 😂😂😂😂
where is the music. the story is superbly told. the subtitles excellent. i know German film but this is new.
German is very funny language...😉😉😆😅
Does anyone know abbey mother superior really married her nun away?
They put the rings on the wrong hand
In many European countries the rings go on the right hand.
In Austria - and in many, many, many, many many, many other countries - the ring goes on the right hand.
In Orthodox church rings go on right hand
In most countries in Europe, the wedding rings are worn on the left hand during their engagement, and carried into church on a silver tray,The rings are then put on the right hand ring fingers during the wedding ceremony.Sweden and Denmark ( but not Norway) have engagement rings like the British and Americans, and wedding rings are worn on the left hand ring finger. In Denmark both bride and bridegroom are given wedding rings and this is becoming more common in Britain.I think Germany ,Austria and the Netherlands wear rings on their right ring finger ,but I don't know about France
