Finnish Politician Could Face Jail Time After Sharing Bible Verse

- A Finnish politician on trial for sharing her biblical views on sexuality is heading back to court later this month as her four-year legal battle stretches on. Dr. Päivi Räsänen, the embattled member of Finland’s parliament, told CBN's Faithwire a hearing in a prosecutor's appeal after she was cleared of hate speech charges last year is scheduled for Aug. 31. She said she's prepared to defend herself in any and all necessary courts of law.
"It was four years ago in June 2019 when I posted a Twitter post and also to Facebook, and it was about the Pride event that was going on, and the main church, the Evangelical Lutheran Church, decided to support it officially," Räsänen said. "And it was a shock to me, and as a member of that church ... I asked the leadership of my church ... how is it possible that you are supporting something, as a matter of pride, what the Bible calls shame and sin."
Her simple social media post, which included Scripture from the Book of Romans, soon landed her in legal hot water, as a citizen made a criminal complaint. Then other past comments from Räsänen came under scrutiny. Another complaint was reportedly filed over a radio program she was on and another over an old pamphlet she wrote about same-sex relationships. Police interrogated Räsänen over her views and Finnish prosecutors decided to up the ante and file charges.
"I was first interrogated by the police altogether 13 hours," Räsänen said. "And I have to say that the situation was really absurd, because just some years ago I was a minister of interior in charge of police." Räsänen was accused of "inciting against sexual minorities," a charge which could carry two years in jail or a fine. Listen to her story.

First of all, stop using the word biblical truth. There is no truth that can be shown in the supernatural resurrection story, writted decades after the events, on a language the eyewitnesses couldn’t even speak, by non-eyewitnesses living in greece, and much less the scientifically dismantled Noah’s flood.
The historical credence of even the strongest stories in the bible like the resurrection is effectively non-existent. Päivi Räsänen could’ve just as well quoted Lord of the rings in an attempt to make a claim about what ought be.
I do agree that her prosecution was not right, but what she says is jibberish and absurd. Religion should not be brought into politics.

I have been praying for Päivi over 20 years here in Finland and so have many other believers in many different churches. She has been strong woman of faith in public for long time and too many people here hate her for that. I thank God that Päivi has still kept on going and doing what is right.

Päivi is not very truthful. Nobody is accusing her for tweeting or pronauncing of Bible verses, that is not the case. You shouldn't believe her explanation. She is not so nice and innocent than she is poses. And I am from Finland and I know more of this case than any American.

I visited Kauhava in December of 2007. I was amazed at all the lit candelabra in everyones homes.
It felt like a declaration of ones faith and belief in light and goodness. In Hanuka, we also light a 9 stem candelabre. Driving through snowy Kauhava felt like we are all share the same faith.

As a 15yr old Finnish Christian I'd like to tell Päivi that both the Constitution and the legislation (here the penal code) is clear that the constitutional rights always goes before other laws If there are conflictions between them. In other words: The constitutional rights can only be compromized by the constitution itself.

As a first step, I would like to express my respect and gratitude for your commitment to expressing the Bible's words openly. During the course of the conversation, I was reminded of a passage in "Christianity" written by Herman Bavinck that says that if someone is hostile to the Word of God, it can often be a blessing and grace that leads them to their conversion. In South Korea, I pray that your trial will end soon and with complete victory.
From South Korea I pray the same thing. We have chosen to live in South Korea because it didn't have this foolishness that has invaded the cultures of the West. Unfortunately my grandchild has informed me that teaching about the unscientific boys to girls and girls to boys trend has come to her high school in South Korea. So very disappointing upsetting and all the church can do is pray even harder. And of course our pastors must speak out against this. I thank God that I have a Bible based church.

Christians often don't realize the authority of Christ in us. I pray you will be challenged to have more face and read Acts and Paul's letters to see how individuals of the early church served God.
