We have a Centrist Center party in Sweden too we also have a left party and a party called the liberals lol.
It used to be called Maalaisliitto ("League of Farmers") back in the day.
Well at least they're clear, here in Australia our liberal party is called Labour and our conservative party is called The Liberal Party

From my understanding of Finnish politics, the Swedish People’s Party / SFP will almost always enter into a coalition with any ruling government (2015 being an exception) to ensure that Swedish remains as an official language in Finland and ensure that Swedish-speaking Finnish people’s rights and interests are protected and maintained
As a fin, i can say this is mostly true, the sfp wants to keep swedish mandatory to study in school while only 5% of finland's population speaks swedish as their first language
That's true. The problem is that the swedish speaking population is decreasing. It used to be about 10% of the population. Now it's about 5%.
@@Remuf I'd add that since they get a constant of 10 mps in every election due to the strategic positioning of their electorate, they do not ever face any electoral pressure and therefore are able to be in power all the time, I don't think it's just about the Swedish language. I'm both Romanian and Finn, and in Romania there's a similar ethnic Hungarian party with no electoral pressure who joins every government.
They are actually just our trojan horse for when we want to return Finnland to Swedish ownership. Please don't make any comparison with Ukraine Russia, we aren't going to fail to take Helsinki in 3 days
The only time they haven't been in the government in recent memory (2015-2019) their head of party quit immediately and gave a statement to the media along the lines of "F**k this, I was told I'd get to be a minister." So it seems to be ingrained to the party's self-image deeply. I'm naturally paraphrasing, but you could see that on the guy's face when he said it.

"Government Collapse" sounds like a bad thing but is it really a bad thing if it's a bad government collapsing and if it results in a better government being elected? It would mean that things are working correctly.
The only cases where it's a bad thing is when it happens frequently.
Thing is government collapse is not really associated with Finland.
In this case it would be bad, the last government tried its very best to drive Finland to bankrupcy. The antidemocratic part of the nation tries to overthrow the new cabinet by any excuse.

Agreed...all this is proving is that Persut (aka the Finns Party) are not nice people and should not be in government. The Centre Party voters decided to punish them for being in government with Marin and Anderson and voted Persut. Former centre party voters are like the Brits who were angry with Cameron for his Austerity policies voting for Brexit just to punch him one on the nose. Now it is ten times worse. Be careful what you vote for. If you don't want closet Neo Nazis in government, don't vote for them.
As a Finnish national, though i would not go and bet my money on it, I would not be surprised if the government would ultimately collapse. The Swedish party certanly isn't all that fond of its coalition partners despite all the attempts at easing tensions.
At the least, I believe we can agree, that they're off to a very rocky start.

For anyone wondering why the centre party isn't in the new finnish government even though they would be an easy parter because they are very moderate.
It is because the center party lost so hard in the election that they chose to voluntarily go in to the opposition because it is easier to gather popularity in the opposition.
I voted them, but won't vote again.

I love the fact that my country's news is getting some attention and I appreciate the analysis, even though obviously roughly ten minutes isn't enough to fully cover anything it's a pretty comprehensive starting point for anyone who wants to do further digging.
But, by God is it painful to listen to all the mispronouncing of names.
Either way I'm glad the TLDR team does what it does to keep people better informed of the world around them.
Finnish pronunciation is the invention of the devil. I think the idea of the Tower of Babel came after someone heard Finnish being spoken. It's unfair to expect anyone not born to speak Suomi to pronounce the names of its citizens. Mind you Hungarian and Polish are also incomprehensible.

All of my ancestors come from Finland. I was taught to revere these old folks. I was taught that the people of the "old country" did things wisely. Our popular media says the Finnish people are the happiest in the world, they have a great education system and manage their economy well. They seem to have great social programs to help their citizens. It is a surprise to see that they have intolerant right wing politicians just like at home. However, I've never seen a KKK snowman before. People are people.
@@tonycook7679 finnish pronunciation is incredibly easy and you won't have to think about which exact pronunciation out of 25 different ones you should use for an a. there is one pronunciation for one letter and the cases where that is not the case are very rare.

Kokoomus doesn’t know how to lead a goverment? Or you just don’t know Finnish politics. Most of the crisies have been started by the media and since then there has been quite an politically motivated race to find anything on the new goverment resulting to even false articles. The junnila case is justified, and the Finns are a different bunch, but the goverment itself doesn’t seem to that shaken, just the media and some of the public.

Helpful tip: In Finnish, word stress is always (ALWAYS) on the first syllable.
Sanna Marin was the youngest but not by a big margin, in 90s we had prime minister Esko Aho who was 36 when elected.
Small correction: Kokoomus could have formed coalition with SDP, Greens and Swedish People Party, but they chose the more right wing coalition since they wanted to make huge cuts from the wellfare and services and ditch the climate targets. SDP and Greens would not have gone along with that. So it was more like a "deal with the devil" to get their agenda implemented.
To be fair the greens might not have wanted to have another term in government as their popularity would take another hit

Honestly there were no good choices. The Greens had announced they're going into opposition due to their poor performance. SDP ran on an opposite platform to the NCP and a coalition between them would've been really hard. The current coalition is the NCP's best chance to get their economic reforms through, but it doesn't look like the Finns can pass for sensible adults long enough for any laws to get passed.
The financial situation is dire and getting worse, another term of SDP would have resulted in a non reversible financial situation.

Correction. At 6:20 that's not the interior minister Mari Rantanen, but instead Riikka Purra, finance minister and leader of the finns party.
It's something you see across many western countries: the right wing can sell their politics quite convincingly which causes popularity and electoral gains, but when politics must become policy and when politicians must become administrators, the right wing often fall short. In government they regularly come across amateuristic, or improvised and it is often short-lived.
It's because most of the old farts that are probably already edging dementia and have no future keep voting on the same crazy shit. If there is a minimum age voting limit, there should also be a maximum age limit too.

As a Slovak, I find it interesting that countries like Finland have a similar mess in politics as our country. Well, our people are similar in a way that not that many foreign immigrants want to go there, yet we are the most afraid of them

@@karankapoor2701 I think you're missing the point. For 1 France is France because of France. Finland aren't remotely close to the history of France. So their irrational fear of immigrants doesn't make sense when there are no immigrants trying to go there or even having a history linked to them. If Finland had strong links to Muslim countries it'd make sense but they don't.
During the 2015 migrant crisis, Finland was 5th most popular destination per capita, overtaking even Germany (if only barely). For a long time few people wanted to come due to our location far from primary immigration routes, and most who came to Nordics preferred Sweden where they already had some relatives or at least an ethnic community. This led to some fairly lax asylum policies and a generous refugee quota, which was perfectly fine back then, but it's starting to become problematic. Gang crime, honor violence and other issues all too familiar from various European countries are also slowly growing. It's not a major problem, but you'll need ideological blinders to see it as a non-issue that can't get worse.
Slovak has taken action to make sure they don't become a dumping ground for the countries that welcomed this problem

In the whole Europe, the asylum issue needs to be resolved. Otherwise more and more far right mindset will emerge. If the politicians from traditional left and right tighten the border control, reevaluate asylum policies (not biting more than you can eat like Sweden), and integrate the already present migrants first then the crisis could be averted. The countries not doing anything when their citizens are illegally crossing borders should be sanctioned or warned of sanctions.

And I definitely don't mean immigrants culture is in anyway worse necessarily, nor that they necessarily have a negative effect on our culture.
It's simply that everything affects everything else, so larger cultural diversity leads to dilution of cultures affected. Globalism in many ways is the death of diversity, hence we need more protective and thoughtful immigration and integration.
I don't see it wrong to say I want to protect the cultural sphere I was born and raised into. Everyone should the same in my opinion, as well as respect others (barring the obviously immoral and unethical aspects).

That woman pointed in the picture is not Mari Rantanen. Mari Rantanen is the short blonde in the back. That one is Riikka Purra, finance minister. But yes, her hate writings have also been recovered since then. So we are at 4/8 ministers and 1/1 speaker of the parlament.
At 0:35 and 6:19 the lower arrow pointed at Riikka Purra, the financial minister and leader of the Finns Party, not at Mari Rantanen, the interior minister. Just a small correction.
Finn here! Pretty much summed it up. NCP's (the largest party led by prime minister Petteri Orpo) only goal for the government was to cut welfare. They were ready to co-operate with anyone. They had two choices, a Centrist coalition with SDP, Greens and the Swedes, or a right-wing coalition with the Finns and the Christian Democrats. The Centre Party, which got humiliated in the election refused to partake in any governments.
SDP was ready to work with the NCP but was not willing to cut as much as the NCP wanted. Finns Party was ready to do all the cuts Orpo wanted, with their only wants being that immigration is restricted and that climate change goals are abandoned. Orpo decided to form a coalition with the Finns, alongside the Christian Democrats. Because the Centre Party refused to come along, they had to convince the Swedes to join them. This was hard because the Swedish Party and the Finns Party are radically different, with Swedes wanting to uphold the status of the Swedish language and the Finns Party wanting to abolish it. On top of that many Finns Party MP's had made derogatory comments about the other party and it's members, especially towards Eva Biaudet. She was the only Swedish MP to oppose the government, however their leader Anna-Maja Henriksson is right of her party and dragged the party into government.
Not only did the government take a record time in forming the government (last time it was this long was decades ago), it seems to be setting a record for the fastest time for a government collapse. The Finns Party got 7 of the 19 ministers in the coalition, and they named white supremacists and neo-fascists for the job, as well as the speaker of parliament. Junnila stepped down, and the Finns replaced him with Wille Rydman, a former NCP mp who got kicked out of the party for sexually harassing under-aged girls. Meanwhile the leader of the Christian Democrats and minister Sari Essayah publicly stated that government should not partake in Pride "ideology". Most Finns are absolutely embarassed by this "government" and it is very likely to collapse. It is filled to the brim with fascists, racists, rapists, anti-abortionists, homophobes, evolution deniers, criminals... Not only that, the government also wants to remove support for poor people, students, children, the unemployed, and doesn't believe in climate change.

And of course people's political memory is short. People forget that increased national debt was caused by covid and the invasion of Ukraine. Right in fact supported all measures that the SDP government took to deal with the both crisis during their term. But at elections no one remembers that so the right just campaigned on increased national debt.
Another thing to mention is that NCP has been in almost all governments during the past few decades. Including purely right wing ones. And yet somehow the debt didn't go down.
Oh yes, all the badges people like you give to other people because they do not like their opinion. Please increase it so it drives even more people towards us.

If the media that was spoon fed to us was honest about things like the risks of immigration and the government had effective programs and actually did the most popular changes people want to see like prescription drug reform then you wouldn't have that growing mistrust.

As Finn, it has some how interesting see and listen these Finland politics videos and find some detail mistakes etc.

Finland has cupercells and nokia to pay for kela. Now we dont have economic giants pushing euros into finland. We are overspending like there is no day on saturday and hoping for next KONE. Might not happend as racists are intellectually inferior in international relationships with customers and barely can scrap culture of their own and why they might be seen inferior by equal morons on negotiation tables. Not all fins are degenerates btw. But way too many compared to few years ago.

Small clarification from a Finn:
First there was Junnilas far right rhetoric stuff, the vote of no confidence was called because of it. In the vote, the right wing "Christians party" voted for him, and he survived it barely.
The day after, his abortion comments came under scrutiny, the "Christians" turned on him (they don't mind working with a Nazi, but being pro abortion is a step too far), and that's when he had to resign.
At the same time it emerged, that he had "improved" his credentials, claiming that he had done studies and owned a startup in Poland, both of which claims seemed to be untrue. This of course raised the question what else he has lied?
They fought a war alongside the Nazis. What else would you expect from them? I've never been so disappointed at something in a long time. I'm a student of history and I've been living in Finland for 4 years but I never thought Finns liked Nazis so much. It looks like they didn't ally themselves to the Nazis only because they were the only ally available

The "Finn's Party" designated Wille Rydman as the replacement for the resigned minister.
Who is Wille Rydman? The police interviewed 9 girls/women about Rydman's conduct. No criminality could be proven, but he was exposed as a groomer of teenagers. Criminal chargers were dropped as the rape accusations could not be proven and the age of consent is 16. But it was proven and partially admitted that he was in the habit of "hanging around" with 16-year-olds and would wait for 14-15-year-olds to turn 16 and that he used his political status to manipulate teenagers. This isn't criminal, but it is clear that he is morally extremely flawed and should not be a minister.
Rydman was formerly in the Coalition party, but he was "forced to resign" a year ago when the scandal came to light. The Finn's Party took him in. A lot of his targets were young girls active in the Coalition party.
The leader of the Finn's Party Riikka Purra did this as a fuck you to Petteri Orpo. She didn't even disclose it to him before making the decission even though the previous day they had agreed on more transparency. It appears that they want to have the government fail so they can avoid getting blamed for making unavoidable budget cuts. The Finn's Party runs into the inavoidable problem that populists have: When you lie to your voters, everything goes to shit the second you are the one responsible for the changes.

The leader of the Finn's Party, Riikka Purra, has apparently posted some really racist and awful stuff on the internet in 2008 under her first name. She explained parts of her life in a way that she could be connected to the nickname conclusively.
She for example talked about fantasising shooting foreigners etc.

As a finn i find the "left-right" spectrum a bit shitty at describing the politics of each party, or atleast how its done in this video. Ill try my best to explain the major parties:
The NCP (kokoomus) is a neoliberal party. Economically way more right wing than the Finns party, which is still far right but more concerned with identity politics and immigration while still trying to seem like a party for the workers. NCP wants to privatise industries and give more handouts to business owners, the Finns want gas to be cheap and the cashiers at the gas station to be white. Theyre excellent at quoting ecofascists of the turn of the 19th century without knowing how to read.
The centre party who try to preach moderation and also the interests of those living in the country side. Very boring rhetoric so they got absolutely destroyed by the Finns party, with many voters switching over. Theyre known for slithering their way into government coallitions and blocking every change because its too radical, unless it fucks over the poors only a little.
The green party is often seen as left, but economically theyre very split, and surprisingly right wing aswell. They want a green transition that still keeps the profits high, which is highly unlikely. Chronically urban.
The socdems are your basic lukewarm european centre left labour party that wants higher taxes and more public services. They lie a lot and do just enough to piss off the right wing but are also known to hate strikers which pisses off the left.
Then there's the left alliance, who are demsocs and left socdems who are scared of socialism despite marketing almost entirely to socialist voters. They also suck at this, being somehow allergic to any vaguely populist messaging so instead of most of the workers, they end up attracting mainly urban students by citing data and graphs. Still they have connections to the unions.
The swedish people's party who are basically a lighter version of the NCP who also want to keep swedish mandatory in schools.
The christian democrats who are very conservative but not as right wing economically as the NCP. Deathly afraid of any gay or trans people.
Then there are minor parties, like the fascists, the crystal people, animal rights party, right wing conspiracy theory party, the feminist party, some registered but mainly unregistered communist parties of different flavours, the pirate party, the liberal party (libertarians for the americans still reading) and so on

(For what it matters, I'm not a supporter of SD, but out of all the major parties [atm. NCP, SD, and the ethnonationalist morons of the "Finns" party], SDs are easily the most honest and responsible ones, they actually push for progressive change in society (stuff like marriage equality and improving trans rights etc.), and they definitely defend the unions and workers' rights (their opponents are always accusing them of being the political arm of the workers' unions, which makes your lies about them being against workers' rights absolutely absurd).
But sure, trying to ensure adequate funding for health services etc. is just them "wanting higher taxes" for those evil "public services".

@@captainvanisher988never claimed to be impartial. Id never vote for the greens theyre too economically liberal for me, its usually the left as a compromise but theyre a bit too soft for my taste. Id have an easier time in the voting box if we actually won the civil war but hey, atleast its not an overly biased description of the parties when i hate all of them to some degree.

It centers around the belief that the main struggles of climate change are overpopulation and refugees. The new goverment will follow the finnish climate law that dictates the climate goals of Finland. So i think saying that the new goverment is relaxing enviroment targets is missleading.
We'll see but the government program alone won't do enough for climate policies. There will be huge turmoils ahead.

Finn here. It would be more accurate if you would refer to the True Finns party as populists. Talking about them as the right-wing party is not incorrect in itself, but this is a coalition between four right wing parties which can make this a little bit confusing. They are all of the on the right (although some more than others) but the True Finns party is the only one who is populist in the traditional sense how the word is normally used.
Fun fact, did you know that Jussi Halla.-Aho's predecessor as the chairman of the True Finns Party, Timo Soini, was a Master of Political Science and that he wrote his master's thesis about populism in 1988 :D

Well, the party’s name reflects its populism. Correct me if I’m wrong, but Perussuomalaiset can better be translated as base/basic Finns, and they tend to do better in areas with lower education/ income and, oddly enough, less immigration (here in Helsinki, where around 10% of the population don’t speak Finnish or Swedish as their mother tongue, they weren’t even top 3), something in line with populist parties in Europe.
They are populist, in the same far-right type as AfD in Germany or Vox in Spain, and they are racist AF. They offer simple solutions to complex problems, and they actually flip flop when they say they need carers from abroad (Purra mentioned during the campaign specifically Southern Europe, famous for its linguistic abilities), yet they want to make immigrants lives as miserable as possible (see Government Programme, 206 et ss.).
They are a far-right, xenophobic populist party.

As a Finnish person, I certainly hope this government fails or at the very least becomes impotent. The plans they have are horrendous to think about, and the values their leaders hold are, well, not pleasant. And that's without even considering the massive middle fingers they plan to give to average workers. We already have some major issues with brain drain, making peoples' lives worse is only going to intensify that.
