Totally agree with this shoe not being for flat footed people. The stableframe running up my arches and the lateral side keep jamming into my foot and its really uncomfortable. Loosening the laces did solve it a little but at the end of the day my feet were really sore. It might be a combination of the stable frame as well as lacking cushioning in the forefoot since the lightstrike tapers off there. Solid review and here's to hoping the next don issue would be more accommodating for wide footed people!
🤝🤝 Right exactly, might be the secure lacing system or lockdown being too good, but like you said hard lateral movements would hurt my feet. Hope they continue to make improvements, cheers! 🙏
I am flat-footed and I currently play in this. I have a Lebron 18 low and it feels like I am going to have a sprain when I played in those but in DON Issue#4 I felt safe and not concerned having an ankle sprain. It works great for me though it kinda gets hot when you used it in a long time.
👍 Nice, yes I agree with very secure lockdown but just too much soreness for me personally, maybe I’m still in the break-in stage? It’s been a while tho…
Got this just this month. The color reminds me of the Scarlet Spider (Kaine Parker) suit. Though it was stated as Louisville colors. Very light and the lockdown is good.
Atleast they fixed the heel slippage. I threw my issue 3s in the trash because nothing i tried fixed the heel slip. Ill prolly pass on these too, i wish they would just give us thick bounce like they did in the d lillard 2s. Not really a fan of light strike.
Yeah I recently got a pair on sale but the don issue 3 was more of a bad shoe to me as well… Bounce or like the Bounce Pro on Dame 8 would be great for sure.
I think it would be cool if you make 2 videos for one shoe: a first look with your first impressions and all that, and then a second video for the performance review after you’ve played in it a couple times, to see how you like it after it’s broken in and everything
Thanks for sharing, these felt really good on my feet, only shot around in them. But I feel like on clean court's they will really perform well. Be blessed.
Used these as my tennis n outdoor badminton shoes, combined with Move Game Day insoles, the cushioning suddenly feels great. Also went TTS at size 10 for my 27cm ovevpronated feet with high instep and normal arch (since I preferred some room at the toes), the lateral claw is actually doing its job for tennis n baddie level of swift lateral movement. Only cons is what u said, the heel counter kinda went to my heel. Kinda wished that they're using softer materials there but can't be helped if the reason is for tank level of support ._. Anyway, thx for the past review 🙏
hi tommy...what is the model of the blue adidas shoe included in this video, is it still the donovan mitchell model? I cannot find that color on his shoe line..please reply thanks
Hey man, I skipped on the DON Issue 2 so can’t give you a comparison with those two. But everything I have to say about them are in this vid and also the comparison with the DON Issue 3. Hope they work out well for ya!
I have normal arch but, i didnt like cushioning since its too hard to me(i think harden6 is way better). Also you cant feel the ground, its like you have heels. i think its not a good choice for guards. Its good looking, white-purpleish one looks great, however it doesnt work for me.
Thank you for the review 😊. My son still choosing his hoops sneakers to cop. He got TMac 1 Restomod SVSM colorway, a new pair for him. So, I told him, I'll buy him a new pair early next year. Again, thank you for this review, it can help my son to decide 😅
Should be good for outdoor use, but they are new to me too so can’t speak on durability yet. These fit smaller than most Adidas basketball shoes since they fixed heel slippage, so not the most wide foot friendly shoe.
@@TommyLiu4 I mean for reference I can get my feet into the kyrie infinity and the Zion 1 pretty easily and they both feel great and I went tts for both.
I am completely in the same boat as you. I also have flat feet. Isn't it annoying how a lot of bball shoes are for regular/narrow feet? Sucks especially when it's with shoes I really want but hurts my feet.
I have flat feet too and all of my basketballs shoes have me bad pain when i started running around and stuff and i dont know why. I thought it was just me until you mentioned the thing about feet getting tired and sore in the beginning of the video. I bought some custom orthotics and my feet have the same pains, is there any way to fix this or should i just stick with the shoe that gives me the least amount of pain?
Hey to be absolutely honest no accessories ever really helped in my case… It’s just gotta be the right shoes for us flat footers I think, ones that don’t make your feet sore, fits comfortably and have decent arch support.
@@TommyLiu4 i agree , I have also flat feet , and the shoes with narrow base at the middle where the worst for me ( the hyperdunks 2016, Kd 9 where the worst from a pain tolerance aspect, I had to literally stop my sessions ). Shoes with a wide toe box and mid foot were the best , for me , such as dame 4 or UA havoc 2… but I think one of the most overlooked thing is to train your feet , with some fascia and calves stretchings, also walking in sand and playing beach-volley helped me a lot
I used to have custom orthodics but they made my pain worse ( but maybe it’s because I was an idiot to put them in the hyperdunks 2016 wich were really narrow for me ) … i just got some superfeet orthodics ( the carbons ) hope that it will help me
I’m 5’11 (182cm). Yeah it was not as good as expected as I mentioned, overall still a better shoe than the 3 imo just not so friendly for flat footers.
🤝🤝 Based on the support and comfort level with my also very flat feet, I’d say the 3 best are still Two Wxy V2, PG 6, & Harden Vol. 6. Also the Zion 2 is surprisingly good for flat feet from my experience.
What basketball shoes do you recommend for High Volume feet? Both of my sons have wide feet but also a very thick, high volume, high instep (not high arch). Impossible for them to slide into a sock-like fit such as the Trae Young 2.
Yessir. It was a real pain to adjust the lacing to get it to fit right. Also I can tell from initial step-in comfort, which the 4s were lacking in. Cushioning was unimpressive. Lightstrike just feels better in Dames and Hardens. It felt like cardboard shoes. I’m a flatfooter too, so there was no way I’m playing ball in those shoes.
@@TommyLiu4 Dawg I got 2 for like 100 off Eastbay just because I saw minimal hype. I got the fresh prince joints for like 30 and for that money as long as my feet are still there when I take em off we good

Thoughts on the DON Issue 4??
I'm glad that you said there's no more heel slippage. Trae and Dame shoes felt like they were falling loose all the time...
for me it doesn’t look good 😅
Don issue 4 is not bad, but don issue 3 is the best shoe ever for me)!
Idk i feel like puna court rider 2.0 is better material wise
I have flat feet and plantar fascitis thinking i will go with the puma trc courtblaze you reckon that is good for someone who uses a 2e width shoe

another good thing I think is they brought back the jacquard material in the upper.

Light strike is a deal breaker. That shit bottoms out way too fast.
Late but Donovan himself uses an insole to preserve the lightstrike, getting a move insole(non-pro) is probably best idea
The back is flappy because you don’t have the top lace in
