Tip: Using a booster increases your chance of getting upptiered. It scales from 40% to 100% upptier rate at 20% combined boosters to 50% combined boosters
In the past there was actual collisions in between aircraft and tanks, i dont know why they removed it, but it was kind of good actually, specially in custom battles where you could move a plane around with your tank.
Planes actually do collide with tanks, but they don't do any "ramming" damage. You can, however, still damage enemy vehicles by ramming them in a plane, because the game seems to treat the sudden force imparted on the tank as if the tank is hitting something (like when you drive really fast into a rock and damage a track) rather than being hit. Sometimes they also get glitched into the ground, which does damage in the same manner. This really only works against light vehicles, though, as heavier vehicles are more resistant to the force and are better armored. It's pretty much the same as how you can damage an enemy by running into them really fast or squishing them against something.
Here's a fact: The game picks up whether you have AP shots (such as aphe or sabot) or high explosive shots (such as hesh and HEAT). The more HE you have in your tank the higher the chance that an ammunition kill will make your turret fly. The more HE hit the higher your turret will fly.
In Ground Arcade Battles, if an air battle is about to commence but no enemies queue up, all allied fighters will face forward towards the battlefield and be spawned closer to it and also closer to the bomber. This is a quick indicator on whether some enemy snuck into the last splitseconds to not show up as a HUD icon, without having to pan the camera 360° to catch any delayed Arcade auto-spotting near you. If an enemy did queue up, the game will usually spawn allied fighters in intercepting angles, parallel to the battlefield or very far in the back.
The so called intercepting angles are still unbalanced as hell, as a bomber, enemies usually spawn within a kilometer range meaning they instantly kill you or you spawn about 2-3 kilometers away from your allied bomber being unable to do anything about enemies. The arcade air spawns are absolutely atrocious
They used to, but players got to positions they shouldn't and so they nerfed it. (Yes they didn't fix their maps they just straight up nerfed traction.)

Ive clipped a bit of warthunder where i shoot a tank twice with different barrels an both shells just go through without a hit, even lit him up with machine guns and not a single hit, all magically going through
"Custom MechWarrior-style hangar" If that really is what they were trying to parody, I'm glad that got delayed - IIRC none of those mechs that were leaked had missiles, and it's just not Mechwarrior if there isn't some Capellan bastard sitting on the other side of the map in a Stalker attempting to blot out the sun with LRMs.
The thing about overmatch is that the mechanic was incorrectly explained by WWII Ballistics: Armor and Gunnery (the book Gaijin uses for a lot of its shell mechanics). Using diameter vs. plate thickness is only an approximation. The real number at play is cross-sectional density, which increases with diameter. So for longer shells or shells made of denser materials, the overmatch mechanic isn't working quite as well as it should be. This is why you see APDS bouncing like rubber balls on paper-thin armored cars.
If I had a nickel for everytime someone leaked highly classified government documents onto the forums I’d have two nickels, which isn’t a lot but it’s strange how it happened twice
Hey Spookston, would you be willing to show or at least tell us how you made your GPHC crew sound mod? I know I speak for a lot of us when I say we'd really love to have it!
If I recall, gaijin has banned sound mods as they can be tweaked to give some pretty significant advantages. I doubt he will be willing to release his or demonstrate how to make for risk of ban.
@@SirKingWest If I’m not mistaken, I’m relatively sure they revoked the sound ban due to player backlash. I personally still use a sound mod for my crews and they work fine.
The way composite rigid shells work, they’re essentially a non-discarding sabot round. They have a small-diameter, high-density armor piercing core, usually a tungsten alloy. The material around that penetrator is of a much lighter material, like an aluminum alloy, and is there almost exclusively to allow the small tungsten penetrator to be fired out of a comparatively much larger bore. Which is pretty much exactly how discarding sabots work, except that the material fitting the penetrator to the bore is detached from the penetrator as soon as it leaves the muzzle, where as on APCR it stays attached until it impacts the target.
Might me out of the topic but When I was playing low tier China I shot a lvta in the front, the moment I fired and the shell was going the lvta got my gunner and then my shell decided to hit the lvta and do no damage And instead of fixing problems like these they add decals and new vehicles
I don't see many complaints about high caliber bounces on thin plates, mainly they are apfsds bouncing off something like 8mm of hha, everything I've seen on long rod penetrators shows effects very similar to overmatch when dealing with thin plates but Gaijin completely ignores it instead of giving it a modified formula
@@a.b.3455Overmatch still requires you to have enough pen to penetrate at 0° so I don't think it works with chemical shells unless gaijin also gives them a kinetic pen value like they do with missiles
honestly, in war thunder i think shells should behave the same 100% of the time, they have picked and choosed too many sim mechanics but not implemented them fully, for instance tank barrels ignore terrain, can legit ram into a rock and no dmg, but tank shells can still hit them, one or the other gaijin

Maybe it’s something different but the local tool you open in a web browser still works. You can set altitude, air speed and fuel ratio during a test flight.

"Gaijin" Now that we add a ungodly amount of tanks to the game with minimum bug fixes, Lets focus on mechs "players" Mechs? I'm ok with that. "Gaijin" Positive feedback!?! Scrap that ideal at once!
War Thunder would be fun to play if it added so way to play offline against bots. Because I want to play it, but I don't have fun beating my head against pro-level war gamers with the reaction time of pistol shrimp and the eyes of hawks.
Just found another fact. the new test drive map if you push the target tanks into the river they won’t drown. And to shoot them you have to get real close as the water actually seems to slow the shells down enough a pt76 cannon can’t pen the back of a panzer 2 turret most the time.
Planes with guns that use Gaijins penetration formula instead of pre-set penetration data will gain an increase in penetration by adding the velocity of the aircraft to the shells muzzle velocity. I tested it with the German Mig-19 with 30mm cannons and managed to penetrate the T-55A side and turret back armor going around 900-1000km/h IAS with default ammo.
Interesting if that's true and not just wonky pen. because i remember asking smin about it and he said at that time it was not in the game. That was 2years ago or so could have changed
My theory regarding the mechs. Gaijin are using the wt game engine to model mechs they will use in a future mech based game. What we see in WT is not the finished product but more of a test run. So. If we can get a alternative WW2 where mechs became the new thing rather than tanks.....I'd love that
Well there are a few mech games on the market already but most are either arcade or turn based games, it would be interesting to see a gaijin style semi realistic arcade game based on mechs (and yes I have no idea what to call war thunder it’s not realistic but it’s also not arcade so idk)
I would absolutely love a entire mech game with war thunders mechanics just because every other mech game I have tried just doesn't do it for me but an alternative history mech game would be awesome and I think it would give Gaijin the freedom to really try new things with the war thunder format with out being constrained to real world values and tanks. It would probably take the spot of war thunder for me if they ever did it.
@@dragonace119 did you not read no other mech game has satisfied me? I really don’t like the mech designs I just hate arms on mechs in general and to be honest I don’t really like futuristic mechs, I love diesel punk mechs that feel gritty and old.
The armor penetration tables always shows the highest possible penetration at the given angle and distance, hence why it can show he-penetration at high angles and distances where kinetic performance may be worse. Some APHE rockets (eg the RP-3) also have this mixed table, as do certain HE-shells. Actually, a lot of naval he-shells will have mixed AP/HE penetration values, which corresponds to how in real life HE-shells are able to punch through or weaken thin armor plates before exploding (and spalling carries the kinetic energy from the moment of detonation, increasing the spalling's performance in the direction the shell was moving). For a few months this was actually modelled for tank-he as well, but for some reason it was removed. It's especially weird seeing HE-shells that are used on both naval vessels and tanks (eg. the 88mm), being fired with the same muzzle velocity from either platform, performing differently at close range.
I'd love a Tie-in with like the Leviathan book series involving the mechs. The upside of this would also be that Allied nations would also field Howdah-tanks on giant, genetically modified war-beasts.
Well this explains why a Matilda is so easy to kill despite having 75mm of frontal armour. Which incidentally is the same as a KV-1 but the KV has rolled homogenous stalinium.
"I say past tense because players ruined it" Warthunder's players be like: NO NO GAIJIN DID IT NOT ME!! I'M INNOCENT!!! Players love ruining everything, don't they?
@@theus663 That’s a bit subjective no? Like I don’t mind paying for premium, especially if you calculate the yearly premium on their birthday. And I also feel that roughly 50% of the war thunder community are kids where their parents won’t buy premium for them. I admit I complained too but once I picked up a job around 16 and saw the discount for the yearly premium on their birthday it’s no problem. It’s a free game after all.
I really don't believe that "Players ruined it". There is one forum post, and a wiki page about it that remains. Quoting the wiki here: "[...] in the past we created a model of one of the Beaufighters - both our automatic tests showed that the aircraft behaved just as it should. [...] it became clear that people could not achieve the same results that our automated tests achieved. The problem lay in the fact that an automatic test has the ability to operate the engines and control the aircraft perfectly, but the aircraft control scheme was far more complex than it was in real life. [...] In the end, the flight model required significant re-development to correct the aircraft's behavior." The game was not capable of reproducing what the automatic flight model tester showed, so they ended up essentially breaking the flight model to make it passable in game. While the flight models were true to life, the game simply could not produce the same results. Sounds like a game issue to me. If/when players got their hands on this, they likely realised that the flight models in game are nowhere near their real life counterparts. Forum post is from 2017, Wiki page was last edited in 2018. Not a lot (aka nothing) you can find about the whole "Players leaking and ruining it". WarThunder's official flight model testing back from the 2012 beta instructs players to use test flight in "Historic" (Sim) mode. All other tools are community made, and can only log data from WT.

Probably by inflating the stats so their favorite vehicle is better and giving false bug reports so gaijin either had to check every stat on every bug report or shut it down

it could be used to set up parameters for an ingame autopilot for stuff like optimum climbing and similar.
@@tomasg851 Still doesnt make sense, if you´re a bad pilot it doesnt help you much since all the other little tricks like the 109 airbrake cant be automised. 1:44 Crossout: "am I a joke to you?"
I Think the mechs may have been a testing ground for Crossout, although on different engines, Gaijin may have used the mechs to test mechanics used in Crossout. The Mech April fools event was in April 2015, and the announcement for the beginning of Crossout's development was in May 2015. As for the new event, it could have been a promo for Crossout or a testing ground for proposed mechanics.
Tip: Using a booster increases your chance of getting upptiered.
It scales from 40% to 100% upptier rate at 20% combined boosters to 50% combined boosters
In the past there was actual collisions in between aircraft and tanks, i dont know why they removed it, but it was kind of good actually, specially in custom battles where you could move a plane around with your tank.
probably since they remove reward for ramming enemy, tank were fat as fuck and you can just kill em just by a single hitbox tip
In addition there was kamikaze rewards against light tanks such as spaas or spgs
I think because the physics didn't quite work. I only ever saw people yeeting tanks off the map
Here's a fact:
The game picks up whether you have AP shots (such as aphe or sabot) or high explosive shots (such as hesh and HEAT). The more HE you have in your tank the higher the chance that an ammunition kill will make your turret fly. The more HE hit the higher your turret will fly.
Guess am using Battleship and blows sherman then?
@@prasyaspaceagency7067 what?
You said the more explosive the more higher the turret will fly right? gues shooting whole HE to tank would fly far far away lmao
@@prasyaspaceagency7067 these are words but none of them are making sense.
Pretty funny. The yeeting turrets are very entertaining as they don't seem to obey primitive, simple minded concepts, such as physics.

If that really is what they were trying to parody, I'm glad that got delayed - IIRC none of those mechs that were leaked had missiles, and it's just not Mechwarrior if there isn't some Capellan bastard sitting on the other side of the map in a Stalker attempting to blot out the sun with LRMs.
This is my second favourite series of videos you ever made, only topped by the analyzing of fantasy tanks series.
A book I need desperately now that you mention it.
The mech design reminds me a little of a indie table top project called Operation: Dragon Slayer.

Fun fact, an apcr shell of the same caliber can't over match as much armor as AP shells do.
That's because the actual penetrator is sub caliber
APDS Be like:
APFSDS: Am i joke to you?
@@deflepperdrocks12954 And also *much* lighter.
Might me out of the topic but
When I was playing low tier China I shot a lvta in the front, the moment I fired and the shell was going the lvta got my gunner and then my shell decided to hit the lvta and do no damage
And instead of fixing problems like these they add decals and new vehicles
Leaks do really ruin things a lot, however, I think people would fixate on them less if Gaijin let the community know what was going on more often
I saw FV4005 shells bounce on a light tank
@@a.b.3455Overmatch still requires you to have enough pen to penetrate at 0° so I don't think it works with chemical shells unless gaijin also gives them a kinetic pen value like they do with missiles

Planes with guns that use Gaijins penetration formula instead of pre-set penetration data will gain an increase in penetration by adding the velocity of the aircraft to the shells muzzle velocity.

Gaijin are using the wt game engine to model mechs they will use in a future mech based game. What we see in WT is not the finished product but more of a test run.

@@morganf7310 Fair enough, since I personally prefer Steampunk style mechs which just look awesome you gotta admit.
I hope they just add a new voice over for tank crews. I know they can even do it better than other games.

@@CaptainJY01 Idk, most people i've seen playing WT were around 20-40yo.
Oh yea how dare people wanted to share a useful tool.
I really don't believe that "Players ruined it". There is one forum post, and a wiki page about it that remains.
Quoting the wiki here:
"[...] in the past we created a model of one of the Beaufighters - both our automatic tests showed that the aircraft behaved just as it should. [...] it became clear that people could not achieve the same results that our automated tests achieved. The problem lay in the fact that an automatic test has the ability to operate the engines and control the aircraft perfectly, but the aircraft control scheme was far more complex than it was in real life. [...] In the end, the flight model required significant re-development to correct the aircraft's behavior."
The game was not capable of reproducing what the automatic flight model tester showed, so they ended up essentially breaking the flight model to make it passable in game.
