The British Sherman Firefly is one of the most famous tanks to come out of WWII, and an amazing vehicle in War Thunder. It is essentially a tank destroyer masquerading as a medium, but it's exceptionally good.

Oneshotting a Tiger I followed by a T-34 tanking two shots from the same gun is a War Thunder moment if I ever saw one.
T34 is the strongest tank in recorded human history according to War Thunder. I swear they just randomise the armour on them
I think part of the problem is he was avoiding shots at the front plate which I'm pretty sure the Firefly could have penned easily in most cases
Hence why "Russian Bias" isn't just a meme, and that's from someone who doesn't play War Thunder but watches lots of Videos on it.
Say whatever you want but the amount of times this meme comes up is insane and there's no way it isn't true.

I love the Firefly so much and I couldn't tell you why. It might be because of how ascthetically pleasing the 17-pounder looks on a Sherman hull.

@@alvarofigueiredo6450 You'd like the French tree. The AMX-13 is a 17pdr in a Stuart sized hull. The AMX M4 has a 90mm that is a 17pdr on steroids. 11kg projectile at 1000m/s. Shoot a Tiger or Panther in the rear and the round comes out the front destroying the engine, crew, and everything else on the way.

One of the big buffs of the fire fly is the increased armor where the driver MG port is. People fire at that spot all the time thinking "oh ill just hit the weak spot" not realizing it ISNT one on the fire fly.

One vehicle I want to see one day in the game is the T17 Deerhound. Which is a T17E1 Staghound that gained an extra axle, the two GMC 270s were replaced by two Hercules JXD 6-cylinder petrol engines. Apart from those changes, it's pretty much a lengthened Staghound.
Or the M38 Wolfhound, which one variant was modified to take the M24 Chaffee turret.

The CoD reference was a blast to the past. One of the better earlier "tank missions in a not tank game" sort of thing.

the m43 is quite odd, it doesnt seem like it'll do well since it only has roughly 100mm of frontal armor, but then it does well anyways
this tank feels like its not gonna bounce anything even when angled but then i bounce a t-34 for some reason
@IgneousKaiser The 75/34 version at 3.3 has the same exact armor profile and it's even more cracked. The only thing it can't do is take on the KV tanks due to the mediocre pen of its gun, same as the P40-but both would probably go up to 3.7 if they increased it to be closer to its true performance

My son played this tank on the weekend (we bought with the ACIV in the 30% off sale a while ago). He had a 16 kill game with it. Died after the 1st kill but then was a real gremlin to the other team for the rest of the match after the respawn.

Its a very good analogy tbh. Ergonomics, ammo capacity, combat effectiveness, crew layout and so forth, the sherman did have to take a hit to these aspects to fit that gun.
This is purely my opinion of course, but if I were a british armoured corps member in 1943...id want a firefly, in spite of the learning curve or issues to overcome to make it combat effective, knowing that there aren't many other options out there that will give me a chance against something bigger than a panzer 4.
It was a stop gap conversion and it did a decent job of it given the situation and alternatives readily available prior to D-day. Best tank of the war? Definitely not. But I dont know if I would complain much if I was manning one.

cool tip for UPS-es: once it inevitably, eventually, starts not storing charge, you should be able to go to your local Battery Shop and see if you can get the replacement battery unit that resides in it. good for the money!

The reason why the Firefly isn’t considered a tank destroyer (at least IRL), is because it wasn’t a tank destroyer by doctrine. Other vehicles like the Achilles, much like it’s American counterpart, were in specific tank destroyer units, deployed specifically to hunt tanks. The Firefly by contrast was in standard tank units. Generally one Firefly would be in a “Cruiser” tank platoon, supporting 3-5 Shermans or Cromwells typically. It was the anti-tank punching power of the platoon, acting like a DMR marksman would for an infantry squad. Though in limited numbers, APDS was available for the 17-pdr’s which allowed them a significant edge on killing Tigers and Panthers, something the rest of the medium tank platoon would otherwise struggle with.
The tech tree Firefly is my #1 most played vehicle in the game, and thanks to this video, I'm going to go play it some more!
