I hear a lot that a main driver for pledging is to be a part of a community. This is true. I think this is maybe 50% of the reason. The other 50% for undergrad pledges is clout, especially at HBCUs. I don't know what it's like at PWIs, but at HBCUs, D9 members are idolized. Many times, they are already the most attractive and popular people on campus socially before they pledge. In fact, if you're really attractive and/or really popular on campus, people will be expecting that you will pledge. I don't think they had "Rush" at my HBCU. "We don't recruit" is a common phrase they say. However, the AKAs and the Deltas for example would low key wait hopefully to see which org a very desirable candidate would pledge. It's like a competition for them to pull the best girls. Also, guys who are frat members have better chances with the girls because they are now more impressive. A girl might brag about dating or sleeping with an Alpha or a Kappa, for example. They also have a better in with the sorors. Greeks at HBCUs are also the people who are in the Homecoming court and Student Government. Greeks were at the top of the food chain & basically ran my HBCU. If you want to run for office or a spot on the Homecoming court, you have a whole sorority/fraternity campaigning for you. Sometimes, the campaign really becomes two sororities or frats competing vs. the two individual candidates competing. They also have faculty members that are their sorors and frat brothers looking out for them. I could go on and on...
I FELT THAT when he said he didn’t want to give it up. People who speak against those of us who have denounced have no idea. I cried like a baby sending my denouncing letter off. I’m headed back to my HBCU for the kickoff of football season this Saturday and whew! I’m scared to see people wearing para. Lol I know my flesh will miss it but my spirit man will be edified. I know God will continue to reward me for my obedience because obedience is better than sacrifice. 🙏🏽
Think about all your friends who have letters but don’t know Jesus. Remember the Rich Man and Lazarus and the parable of the foundation of sand vs the rock. Eternal life is way more valuable than Greek letters. As you continue to grow in your faith, God will give you an abundant life and change your desires from what you used to love. Trust me! I know from experience. Many times I thought I was missing out but it was God’s Grace all along. 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
@@TytusJones Absolutely. I’m literally in my pruning season, my sister in Christ. I had to release my org & a relationship. When I downloaded that letter, God sent me another business contract. Mind you, I work in psychiatry so he uses me as a vessel to help deliver ppl from strongholds. He didn’t want me delivering ppl & stay bound myself! Whew! That’s how much he loves me/ us. I had a friend on the AKA line Literally just needed a day to rest. She hid in my dorm room for like 6 hours just to get some sleep. I didn’t know what was going on & she didn’t share a lot of info. I can tell she was spiritually broken though but the day of her probate was so confident & happy as ever.
This interview/discussion is sobering. It helps to de-glamorize the NPHC organizations and to put things in perspective as far as joining any type of group/church/company that interests you.
I really would love an interview with someone who addresses both the spiritual issues and also the mental/emotional abuse that lingers. Honestly, denouncing for Christ was easy but overcoming the mental effects of hazing has been a lifelong battle. Your mental and emotional health is worth walking away just as much as walking away for Christ. Being dehumanized is so so hard to come back from. When someone has beat your body and mind you best believe you're in for an uphill battle. I burned the symbols and the ritual book for Jesus, but seriously healing your mind is not such a quick process. If anyone is considering joining and wants to know what really went down before, during, after and how to overcome the lure of joining connect with me I'd love to walk through it with you and spare you the lifelong struggle. When it all boils down, most people who are deemed as "gullible", truly aren't but are just too nice(not foolish), and kind hearted, which truly isn't a bad way to be but unfortunately, predatory wicked people takes advantage of them. That's why GOD's 8th and 10th Commands are very important for us.

Now I understand why I could not do it. Sad part is I was a CPT in the Army (Ft Jackson) when I wanted to join. I was bitter about being declined for not being black enough (they actually said that). (A MSG in the AG corps) I actually recieved written information, but then their Officer snatched the info from me an ripped it up in my face (no lie). The only reasons I did not act a fool was: - I was a commissioned officer in uniform (we must always be professional) - I was crowded up by two very large members of the group - I assumed the man ripping up my info was the "interview stage'

The Greeks personally offended by others denouncing are spiritually convicted by God, they’re grieving the Holy Spirit, especially if they’re Christian. Matthew 11:29-30 “Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls”
The founders were very knowledgeable about rituals and knew exactly what they were doing in developing the rituals. Majority of founders were already members of the Masons and other others.

Thanks for this video and boldness to address this topic. I had never heard of those groups for ex-members; I’m going to check them out. I’ve never actually seen the ritual book but this brought back memories of pledging that I forgot I even did.
I became a Free and accepted Mason at 18 years old I went to college and was on line for omega but had to drop due to grades. Like he said it was the only frat that fit my character I'm glad I didn't go through with the process I denounced being a Mason years ago

I can’t say absolutely, but I have noticed there is a lot of these discussions of former members denouncing fraternities and sororities centered around Omega and Deltas.
I never understood why anyone, especially a Black person would want to join something that brings you harm. My thought was that Black Americans have been through enough in terms of having agency over ones own body. Then when I would see the Q's with brandings on their body, really through me into a world of questions, being on a campus of higher learning. None of it made sense to me. I began to just see the people who went through that as needing of wanting to be wanted and a part of something. No different than joining gangs or big name churches.
What's your point exactly. These "professions" are not taking oaths to serve another God. I'm not saying that is what you are saying but all oaths are not the same.
I was called weak once for dropping because their tactics were wayyyyy to extreme a month later one of the people I was on line with died from what they were doing

This frat stereotype does come off tougher, in another video I watched it said don’t get caught up in “ stereotypes” but if you ask me it’s how you know you fit . However I don’t think it’s good he did what was done to him and haze. It’s crazy you have to be degraded to be apart of these frats. Seem like it’s worse for men than women though . I’m a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Basic training for the Army was the same thing in comparison. I laughed the entire time through BCT because I had already experienced it through my process into Omega.
Let me preface this by making it very clear that I don’t judge any man’s walk with God; however He chooses to move others is His business, not mine. We have all been given free will by the Creator, and thus we have an obligation to do that which makes sense for ourselves, and ourselves alone. That said, I am a Mason, a Shriner, a Sigma, a Lambda (Kappa Lambda Chi, a military Greek-Lettered organization or MGLO), and a Turtle. I come from a long line of Black men who are/were Traveling Men in the Prince Hall tradition. At no point did any man (or spirit, for that matter) so much as tempt me to turn my back on the Lord. If anything, my participation in these organizations have only made me closer to the teachings of God. That’s not to say that this young man is wrong or misguided; we took different paths, and thus have different experiences. But what I am saying is that too often, I see people like him speak of his experiences so negatively, and it makes me feel that you have these individuals who join D9 and similar organizations for the wrong reasons, and making their change of heart about God’s will comes off as a cop out. It’s like they’re still running around from group to group until someone appears to accept them. If this was a personal decision, I respect that. But don’t go on social media pontificating about how you dropped thousands of dollars for an organization that didn’t suit you, as if God had something to do with it-the rest of us are doing just fine.
Respectfully, what about this young man’s story made you feel he was indicting you or others? I’m going to keep listening, but I didn’t hear anything about going from one org to another to be accepted; I could be wrong though. If his personal experience was negative and the Lord has led him to share it, then it is what it is. As an outsider, it seems to me like maybe this brother gave you something to think about. A few of my friends and family are Kappas i watch them as a child and Kappa was exposed to me in a good way now if there are some secrets about it I never gotten bad info on either fraternity but hey everyone has there reason for denouncing themselves
I believe the leaders of all Divine Nine need to seriously take a look at their rituals and initiation process. I am certain that the founders did not intend for people children to get hurt physically and mentally when they go to college. It defeats the purpose especially when brothers are profiled by white cops and even sometimes by black cops. Pledging should be fun and humiliation in good taste. (I.e. singing, hopping). As far as rituals we need to make certain that we are not going against God. I have seen many of these videos, and it’s beginning to be very concerning. I would hate for us to loose something so great for something that is so senseless. White people are now wanting to even step. I saw a video where Puerto Rican fraternities are now stepping. I also have seen more Asians, Hispanics and white people joining our sororities and fraternities. We are a great people let’s not loose it to foolishness.
One thing to Denounce Something but to tell about certain things is not right. Why join in the first place. I dont see no one Denouncing the Navy Seals, Marine Core, UFC, Masons, Methodist, etc. I havent seen nobody denounce their church who performs SS marriages.
Where do you get your concept of “right” and “wrong”? Also many Christians leave religious organizations and cults that deviate from Christian orthodoxy. People absolutely have gone public about denouncing Freemasonry. No orthodox Christian church allows SS marriages to be performed.

I’m an omega and a strong in my Christian faith. Not to get on him but he joined for the wrong reasons and this is why it didn’t work for him. Ok I’m not this guy I will not talk about things dealing with omega too much because some stuff is just for members, but omega is just used instead of God, it shouldn’t be a big issue we know god gave his only son and we believe in the trinity.Talking to my other half who is a Chaplain, and a minister in training, and helped me pay to become an omega sees nothing wrong, it’s just how we referenced God. I pledge as an undergraduate student in 1988 and I accepted Christ one year after I crossed in 1988. I used my platform then and now to promote Christ. I would agree that there are definitely many positive aspects of black Greek life. However, I also find that these organizations either directly or indirectly oppose Christian values in certain areas and therefore should be avoided by Christians. I don’t think non Christians would have as many reasons to critique BGLOs or Greek life in general.

As a member of a sorority, I understand people that pledge an organization may eventually grow apart from the org. That’s ok because people may have pledged undergrad and have grown. However, I would never publicly denounce my org, especially if I were to leave for personal reasons.
@Raila some Christians have chosen to publicly renounce as a way to make ppl aware of the things that are wrong within the orgs. Christians are called to expose darkness. It’s not about ppl outgrowing the orgs, it’s about ppl realizing that orgs claiming to be based on Christian principles in many ways deviate from Christianity and the Bible.
wholeheartedly agree with this. having pledged undergrad at an HBCU, i find this interview very disheartening. no one can make you do anything. everything is a CHOICE. even if you feel you have no choice, you can still choose to not do whatever is being asked. my father instilled this in us as children. if you are standing at a cliff, someone has a gun to your head, and they say jump. you can jump or not. Consequences may not be good either way, BUT you still have a CHOICE. i'm not with someone painting everyone in the org negatively because of a choice he made.

I don't think they had "Rush" at my HBCU. "We don't recruit" is a common phrase they say. However, the AKAs and the Deltas for example would low key wait hopefully to see which org a very desirable candidate would pledge. It's like a competition for them to pull the best girls. Also, guys who are frat members have better chances with the girls because they are now more impressive. A girl might brag about dating or sleeping with an Alpha or a Kappa, for example. They also have a better in with the sorors.
Greeks at HBCUs are also the people who are in the Homecoming court and Student Government. Greeks were at the top of the food chain & basically ran my HBCU. If you want to run for office or a spot on the Homecoming court, you have a whole sorority/fraternity campaigning for you. Sometimes, the campaign really becomes two sororities or frats competing vs. the two individual candidates competing. They also have faculty members that are their sorors and frat brothers looking out for them. I could go on and on...

Mind you, I work in psychiatry so he uses me as a vessel to help deliver ppl from strongholds. He didn’t want me delivering ppl & stay bound myself! Whew! That’s how much he loves me/ us. I really would love an interview with someone who addresses both the spiritual issues and also the mental/emotional abuse that lingers. Honestly, denouncing for Christ was easy but overcoming the mental effects of hazing has been a lifelong battle. Your mental and emotional health is worth walking away just as much as walking away for Christ. Being dehumanized is so so hard to come back from. When someone has beat your body and mind you best believe you're in for an uphill battle. I burned the symbols and the ritual book for Jesus, but seriously healing your mind is not such a quick process. If anyone is considering joining and wants to know what really went down before, during, after and how to overcome the lure of joining connect with me I'd love to walk through it with you and spare you the lifelong struggle. (A MSG in the AG corps) I actually recieved written information, but then their Officer snatched the info from me an ripped it up in my face (no lie). The only reasons I did not act a fool was:
- I was a commissioned officer in uniform (we must always be professional)
- I was crowded up by two very large members of the group
- I assumed the man ripping up my info was the "interview stage'

I can’t say absolutely, but I have noticed there is a lot of these discussions of former members denouncing fraternities and sororities centered around Omega and Deltas.
I never understood why anyone, especially a Black person would want to join something that brings you harm. My thought was that Black Americans have been through enough in terms of having agency over ones own body. Then when I would see the Q's with brandings on their body, really through me into a world of questions, being on a campus of higher learning. None of it made sense to me. I began to just see the people who went through that as needing of wanting to be wanted and a part of something. No different than joining gangs or big name churches.
Everyone takes an oath. Nurses take an oath, doctors, presidents, police officers, military, judges…etc, etc.
All oaths aren’t bad. The Apostle Paul made oaths as well.

Let me preface this by making it very clear that I don’t judge any man’s walk with God; however He chooses to move others is His business, not mine. We have all been given free will by the Creator, and thus we have an obligation to do that which makes sense for ourselves, and ourselves alone.
That said, I am a Mason, a Shriner, a Sigma, a Lambda (Kappa Lambda Chi, a military Greek-Lettered organization or MGLO), and a Turtle. I come from a long line of Black men who are/were Traveling Men in the Prince Hall tradition.
At no point did any man (or spirit, for that matter) so much as tempt me to turn my back on the Lord. If anything, my participation in these organizations have only made me closer to the teachings of God.
That’s not to say that this young man is wrong or misguided; we took different paths, and thus have different experiences.
But what I am saying is that too often, I see people like him speak of his experiences so negatively, and it makes me feel that you have these individuals who join D9 and similar organizations for the wrong reasons, and making their change of heart about God’s will comes off as a cop out. It’s like they’re still running around from group to group until someone appears to accept them.
If this was a personal decision, I respect that. But don’t go on social media pontificating about how you dropped thousands of dollars for an organization that didn’t suit you, as if God had something to do with it-the rest of us are doing just fine.
Respectfully, what about this young man’s story made you feel he was indicting you or others? I’m going to keep listening, but I didn’t hear anything about going from one org to another to be accepted; I could be wrong though. If his personal experience was negative and the Lord has led him to share it, then it is what it is. As an outsider, it seems to me like maybe this brother gave you something to think about. A few of my friends and family are Kappas i watch them as a child and Kappa was exposed to me in a good way now if there are some secrets about it I never gotten bad info on either fraternity but hey everyone has there reason for denouncing themselves

I believe the leaders of all Divine Nine need to seriously take a look at their rituals and initiation process. I am certain that the founders did not intend for people children to get hurt physically and mentally when they go to college. It defeats the purpose especially when brothers are profiled by white cops and even sometimes by black cops. Pledging should be fun and humiliation in good taste. (I.e. singing, hopping).
As far as rituals we need to make certain that we are not going against God. I have seen many of these videos, and it’s beginning to be very concerning. I would hate for us to loose something so great for something that is so senseless. White people are now wanting to even step. I saw a video where Puerto Rican fraternities are now stepping. I also have seen more Asians, Hispanics and white people joining our sororities and fraternities. We are a great people let’s not loose it to foolishness.
One thing to Denounce Something but to tell about certain things is not right. Why join in the first place. I dont see no one Denouncing the Navy Seals, Marine Core, UFC, Masons, Methodist, etc. I havent seen nobody denounce their church who performs SS marriages.

Let me say this, I've met many gay members in these Black Fraternities in the Divine 9, and especially Alphas and Kappas.

I’m an omega and a strong in my Christian faith. Not to get on him but he joined for the wrong reasons and this is why it didn’t work for him. But doing research is not just what he explained, and yes there are bad apples that go away from the real purpose of omega. It is a Christian brotherhood

I pledge as an undergraduate student in 1988 and I accepted Christ one year after I crossed in 1988. I used my platform then and now to promote Christ. I would agree that there are definitely many positive aspects of black Greek life. However, I also find that these organizations either directly or indirectly oppose Christian values in certain areas and therefore should be avoided by Christians. I don’t think non Christians would have as many reasons to critique BGLOs or Greek life in general.

As a member of a sorority, I understand people that pledge an organization may eventually grow apart from the org. That’s ok because people may have pledged undergrad and have grown. However, I would never publicly denounce my org, especially if I were to leave for personal reasons.
@Raila some Christians have chosen to publicly renounce as a way to make ppl aware of the things that are wrong within the orgs. Christians are called to expose darkness. It’s not about ppl outgrowing the orgs, it’s about ppl realizing that orgs claiming to be based on Christian principles in many ways deviate from Christianity and the Bible.
wholeheartedly agree with this. having pledged undergrad at an HBCU, i find this interview very disheartening. no one can make you do anything. everything is a CHOICE. even if you feel you have no choice, you can still choose to not do whatever is being asked. my father instilled this in us as children. if you are standing at a cliff, someone has a gun to your head, and they say jump. you can jump or not. Consequences may not be good either way, BUT you still have a CHOICE. i'm not with someone painting everyone in the org negatively because of a choice he made.
