    A little tip I picked up after a million miles, wrap 12 inches of saran wrap on your GPS in the rain😉. I prefer using my phone or tablet, it gets real time map updates detours, accidents, speed traps and because I have Bluetooth in the helmet it reminds me if I miss a turn in strong glare.

      Only problem is if it's your primary phone, the camera can get messed up from the prolonged vibes from the bike. If you like taking pictures on the phone, something to consider.

    I had a large Garmin (6 inch) on my KLR for a while last year, but the bouncing shook it to death after about a month. I had it in a waterproof case with a ball mount. I'll have to try a 40 LM and see if it holds up any better. I've had great success with my 78s but it is a small screen and has few bells and whistles.

    • @SwankyCatProductions
      @SwankyCatProductions  3 года назад

      Yeah I tried this on my new KLR and it was making it disconnect right away. I stuck a foam floaty between the GPS and the mount and that seems to have damped down the vibrations considerably. Not sure how long it'll last but I'll keep you updated!

    I too tried a garage sale Garmin and it failed after 15000 miles on my 05 KLR. The circuit board wasn’t built for the vibes nor was it waterproof. I knew it would happen sooner or later. Now I use my Zumo on both bikes. No issues now.

    • @SwankyCatProductions

      I just tried another one on my new KLR and it kept telling me it had lost connection. Hopefully getting some sort of vibration dampener between it and the bike will work. I grabbed it while riding and then did the same with the Tenere and WOW was it different. KLR has a hard buzz and the T7 was essentially sitting still.

      @@SwankyCatProductions Remember the issue isn’t the motorcycle it’s the device you’re putting on the motorcycle. There is no automotive GPS that is built and waterproofed that will work on a motorcycle long term. End of conversation. As a matter of fact I killed my iPhone camera using it for a GPS. • @SwankyCatProductions
      @SwankyCatProductions  3 года назад +1

      Hey Brice, very good question and the reason I bought the new KLR. So far I'd say the biggest difference is on the road, totally worth it there. Off road the Tenere is more capable and more fun but not a huge amount better for me due to the height and rather top heavy-ness of it. Don't get me wrong the power to pick the front wheel up is really nice and the anti squat rear makes power sliding easy. But the KLR can still hold it's own and be a lot of fun. It's also just a little less stressful on uneven messy terrain (for me).
