I got into the school I really wanted to go to but couldn’t afford it. I wound up at a university that was my perfect fit, graduated with very little debt and totally changed the trajectory of my life. It truly will all work out. Having graduated from high school 12 years ago and college 9 years ago. It does feel so big so at the time. I had every single stress I wouldn’t get into any college even though that was not at all true. I got into all but 3. The anxiety is real but it will work out ❤

Over the years I have met a number of Ivy League and other elite schools alumni in finance and engineering, one group that has impressed me are the alums from University of Notre Dame. Notre Dame students are among the top scholars in the US who also seem to have a great balance to their approach in life. Beautiful campus as well
First of all, congrats to Nadia. It's not the college someone went to determines success. At the end of the day, it's what you made out of the degree you got. The top achiever from Notre Dame can easily out perform a Ivy League graduate. One of my co-worker went to Cornell and U-Penn and he became an average insurance sales person but his wife was an U-Penn graduate engineer, she was the one paying the household bills until they both retired. Just because someone is good at studying and nice personality does not make him or her successful in their careers or in their life. The true test comes after graduation. Getting into a prestigious school is just step one.
I never comment on this type of videos usually but I had to do it here because I relate so much to what I have just seen... Your mother is an amazing woman, the way she kept insisting "you worked really hard for it you didn't just get lucky" is so heartwarming to watch. I love this! I have always wanted to go to Harvard, Btw i'm 15 and an A+ student. I always feel I'm not doing enough and am so devastated when I get something wrong. OMG!!! So proud of you UMichigan Honors, UC Berkeley, USC, Northwestern, UPenn, Dartmouth, Cornell, and Stanford!? That is amazing. I really hope to get into ivies/top schools! I have taken rigorous classes(Honors/APs), have great EC's, but my GPA is not quite great(For these schools). I had a good freshman year, and initially had a decent start to sophomore year, but absolutely tanked due to depression. This year I have straight A's(1 A-, 2 B+[Both improving]) with all honors and 2 AP's. I plan on taking 7 total APs 13-15 Honors Classes throughout high school. Additionally, I am also trying to get 1500+, especially 1550+. My unweighted is ~3.7 and my weighted(for each college) is 4.06 and 3.9 cumulative( ~4.2 weighted this year) at my school. Do you have any strategies for getting in? I have been quite nervous as I want to really go to these schools. I am aiming for t20s.
I just saw this in my recommended, never been so happy for a stranger, but amazing how you weren’t a perfect student and got into Stanford. I’m currently a sophomore in hs and will be a junior in august and it’s super tough for me because of the results of being bullied in my ms years badly and really messed up my grades and just my dedicated for the things I used to love to do, but your mindset throughout all of this is just super inspiring so I want to thank you a ton, I haven’t started thinking much about college yet besides the double major I want to do (political science & international relations), I’ll make sure to try to keep the mindset you have when it gets closer to college & also apply to the colleges you also applied to since my current list is like 10 colleges and still adding more to the list of where I want to apply to. thank you so much for this video! ❤❤

I live in Australia so our process is different, which makes this really interesting to watch - we apply through one site which covers the entire state, so your portals thing is very different, we have a release date of our atar (kind of like sat) and then a date for the offer rounds. I graduate next week and I’m about to go into the atar/offer rounds and it’s scary but to see your video, how realistic it is. I’m scared I messed up a few things but you did too and you still got places, so that gives me hope. Thanks for sharing💓

I think its also important to recognize the difference in access to resources- especially for those who are of higher income. Its not just about seniors working hard. And while I know you likely had good intentions with this video, I think a disclaimer recognizing the privilege to access and wealth is important. There are so many seniors from low-income backgrounds who don't have the same access to specific classes, tutoring services, and campus summer programs that are for the rich (like the one you went to at Yale). As a current Ivy league grad student who made it here with absolutely zero help, its quite coincidental to watch you get your acceptance to Stanford on a fancy plane on its way to London. Yes- like you said everyone ends up where their meant to be... but its misleading to the fact that disproportionately wealthy and affluent students "end up where they are meant to be" be of connections, resources, and preppy feed high schools in wealthy areas. Congratulations on these acceptances- I just commented so hopefully any low-income student who might be here isn't fooled or thinks less of themselves.

In the meantime, a little bit of advice (to make the most of your personal statement) is to treat that essay as an opportunity to max out on displaying your character/ personality. Your personal statement isn't meant to be a place where you prove you are super smart or super accomplished (that will be evident in your transcript, extracurriculars, and awards. Instead, use the personal statement as an opportunity to share stories or aspects of who you are that are unquantifiable.
Your parents are just wonderful. It makes me happy seeing them so supportive of you. I see myself in the same situation as you were but my relationship with my parents is not so good right now. I don't know if I can do this alone but I'm going to try.

Idk if this helps anyone watching, but I was a high school class of 2012. It's 2023 now, but at the time I went to Rice University where I did pre-med and biochem...and decided my last semester to not apply for med school and not finish that last physics II req, I ended up doing something completely different and unrelated in the end. Don't sweat this stuff too much. If I had to just give advice, it's ask a lot of questions, try to be more aware of the world we live in which can change a lot in just 3 years, don't focus so hard on getting good grades. B is fine, it's not high school where you need to get an amazing GPA to get to college. There are exceptions if you absolutely know you want to go to graduate school or something. Focus on making friends because they will be there for you in times of loneliness or help. Oh, and congrats on your admission to Stanford and all the other great schools.

I really hope to get into ivies/top schools! I have taken rigorous classes(Honors/APs), have great EC's, but my GPA is not quite great(For these schools). I had a good freshman year, and initially had a decent start to sophomore year, but absolutely tanked due to depression. This year I have straight A's(1 A-, 2 B+[Both improving]) with all honors and 2 AP's. I plan on taking 7 total APs 13-15 Honors Classes throughout high school. Additionally, I am also trying to get 1500+, especially 1550+. My unweighted is ~3.7 and my weighted(for each college) is 4.06 and 3.9 cumulative( ~4.2 weighted this year) at my school.
Do you have any strategies for getting in? I have been quite nervous as I want to really go to these schools. I am aiming for t20s.
Just be your authenic self and shoe not just avafemic but personality abd interest.

I just saw this in my recommended, never been so happy for a stranger, but amazing how you weren’t a perfect student and got into Stanford. I’m currently a sophomore in hs and will be a junior in august and it’s super tough for me because of the results of being bullied in my ms years badly and really messed up my grades and just my dedicated for the things I used to love to do, but your mindset throughout all of this is just super inspiring so I want to thank you a ton, I haven’t started thinking much about college yet besides the double major I want to do (political science & international relations), I’ll make sure to try to keep the mindset you have when it gets closer to college & also apply to the colleges you also applied to since my current list is like 10 colleges and still adding more to the list of where I want to apply to. thank you so much for this video!

I live in Australia so our process is different, which makes this really interesting to watch - we apply through one site which covers the entire state, so your portals thing is very different, we have a release date of our atar (kind of like sat) and then a date for the offer rounds. I graduate next week and I’m about to go into the atar/offer rounds and it’s scary but to see your video, how realistic it is. I’m scared I messed up a few things but you did too and you still got places, so that gives me hope. Thanks for sharing💓

I think its also important to recognize the difference in access to resources- especially for those who are of higher income. Its not just about seniors working hard. And while I know you likely had good intentions with this video, I think a disclaimer recognizing the privilege to access and wealth is important. There are so many seniors from low-income backgrounds who don't have the same access to specific classes, tutoring services, and campus summer programs that are for the rich (like the one you went to at Yale). As a current Ivy league grad student who made it here with absolutely zero help, its quite coincidental to watch you get your acceptance to Stanford on a fancy plane on its way to London. Yes- like you said everyone ends up where their meant to be... but its misleading to the fact that disproportionately wealthy and affluent students "end up where they are meant to be" be of connections, resources, and preppy feed high schools in wealthy areas. Congratulations on these acceptances- I just commented so hopefully any low-income student who might be here isn't fooled or thinks less of themselves.

In the meantime, a little bit of advice (to make the most of your personal statement) is to treat that essay as an opportunity to max out on displaying your character/ personality. Your personal statement isn't meant to be a place where you prove you are super smart or super accomplished (that will be evident in your transcript, extracurriculars, and awards. Instead, use the personal statement as an opportunity to share stories or aspects of who you are that are unquantifiable.

Idk if this helps anyone watching, but I was a high school class of 2012. It's 2023 now, but at the time I went to Rice University where I did pre-med and biochem...and decided my last semester to not apply for med school and not finish that last physics II req, I ended up doing something completely different and unrelated in the end. Don't sweat this stuff too much. If I had to just give advice, it's ask a lot of questions, try to be more aware of the world we live in which can change a lot in just 3 years, don't focus so hard on getting good grades. B is fine, it's not high school where you need to get an amazing GPA to get to college. There are exceptions if you absolutely know you want to go to graduate school or something. Focus on making friends because they will be there for you in times of loneliness or help. Oh, and congrats on your admission to Stanford and all the other great schools.
