I’m a hardcore DIY’er 😂 I am halfway through Liz’s certification program through the Nail Hub, and I LOVE learning new things. There’s so much to know and perfecting technique is so satisfying. I really prefer Gel over other enhancements, and the builder is a total game changer for me because I like to change things up every week or so. The builder really protects my natural nail.
Love your videos!
That’s awesome! 🙌🏻
I'm a DIY, have a career in another field, love this video.
I discovered gel polish just about a year ago (July 2023), and since I'm one of those people who has to turn things up to 11, I now have an entire desk STUFFED full of gel polish and powders and paraphernalia. I've gotten pretty good at doing my nails, even with more intricate stuff like ombres, "cat eye," and just this week, making my nails look like various colored opals, using mylar flakes and foil transfers and "milk bath" gel polish.
But it's just a hobby. When I mentioned to my husband that maybe I could become a nail tech, he said "but you don't like people!" I realized immediately that he was right, so I just have a revolving drama on my own nails, changing them every 1 to 2 wks, learning new designs and products constantly. It's a blast! 😁
Haha I totally get that! You could become a press on nail artist and be able to design nails for customers in your own home! 🫶🏻
I'm newly licensed and official! It's been a dream of mine since I graduated high school. Life happened, and I never had the opportunity to pursue it until now. 2 weeks into my apprenticeship, I started having awful reactions to nail products. I think from the cheap stuff I was doing my own nails with prior to starting my apprenticeship. Either way, it's sort of hell 😂 but it's also sort of ignited a passion in me to want to educate others around me, especially DIYers, on how to prevent reactions like this. I definitely wish someone had warned me!
That’s an amazing goal! And so important to share. 💖 I wish you the best on your journey!
I'm a licensed nail tech and instructor, 17 years into the career and still learning 😇 I hate feeling stuck in one place, so my education continues with new classes every 2-6 months.
By the way, thank you, Katie for mentioning the Shemax nail dust collector. Have been using it for a very long time and it's literally one of the best on the market ❤
Yes I’m always learning new things too! 💖 Glad you’re enjoying the shemax 😄 thanks for watching!
im just starting, I've just bought my builder gel and cant wait to get started your videos help me so much on what to buy and how to do nails thank you.
Love that! Glad I can help 🙏🏻💖
I graduated 2017 I’ve been thro a lot the 6 years just had a baby now I’m going to get back at it hoping I can do it full Time so
That I don’t have to go back to work lol 😂 I’m a new fan to you 😊
Thanks again for another well put together film. So I've been watching you since tha beginning I live in Scotland and am qualified about 8/9yr but only do myself family and the odd friends as I nolonger word due to illness Im in a wheelchair and have problems with joint dislocations the illness a have is Ehlers-Danlos syndrome and its nolonger possible to work but I have to keep my hands in.
Fab video thankyou.
Can i ask when using maybe fine liner brush to gt to sidewalls, is it alchol or acetone u would dip in. Realy confused the difference 😅❤
You don’t dip it in anything! ☺️ You just use it to move the gel around
@@NailsByKatieDutra thankyou
A year into the game and well I’m still learning.
I think I learn something new every day still!
I think my lamp is my issue. I went with a popular one on Amazon, but it doesn’t work well. It was definitely under $50.
This was a great video since I’m starting to do builder gel over my natural nails to prevent breaking. I’ve done my own manicures for years, but builder gel is new to me. I love your recommendations!
Depends what kind it is. I have a $25 one and I love it. There's UV and LED or a combo. I prefer a combo. You also need to look into the wattage.
I never regret investing in a high quality lamp! I have peace of mind knowing everything is cured properly 💖
@@saltycat662Same for me. As a DIYer, I'm not sure I could justify hundreds of dollars. I chose one with lots of reviews including from professionals and it's worked well for my purposes.
@@saltycat662 I have the Sunone from a large Morovan kit I purchased. I’ll take a look at the wattage. I don’t think buying this huge kit was the bargain I thought it would be.
@@NailsByKatieDutra It might be time for me to do the same. Thank you!
Hi qq is builder gel the same as base builder? That you would use for a structure manicure?
A builder base means it is a builder gel usually with a built in base gel. But it’s always important to read the instructions for any brand before using. 🩷
Looking at the different gels at your back, do you use Akzentz lamp to cure all the gels you use or do you have lamps for every type of gels you have?
I do, I’ve never had an issue because they are strong high quality lamps. I recommend choosing the lamp based on what base products you use like builder gels/hard gels etc.
Please make a video on different types of allergic reactions to nail products and how to prevent them . Thank you
Usually an allergic reaction can be red, itchy, bumps around fingers, nail plate detaching from nail bed etc.
Always using high quality products, don’t touch the skin, and cure properly to prevent developing an allergic reaction.
Ive been having so much trouble with lifting at free edge. Any thoughts?
It could be a lot of different things, but a few that come to mind.. either it’s the wrong gel for the clients natural nail type or the client isn’t following good aftercare. You can also thin out the natural nail from underneath to prevent it.
Hey Katie! I can't find the little jar you had disinfectant on. can you point me in the right direction?
Found it! www.nailmasterdallas.com/products/box-for-disinfection-of-bits?_pos=3&_sid=19458113f&_ss=r
@@NailsByKatieDutra You are the BEST!!! TYSM
Do you do gel x? Also would love to know why you prefer gel overlays on natural nails over full cover extensions (:
I don’t do gel-x ☺️ if I do extensions then I will use forms!
@@NailsByKatieDutra just curious why you prefer forms over tips. Might also make a switch to forms over tips and was curious why you like forms better (:
@MsCraftyCritter that’s just what I was trained in! I find it easier to get a custom fit for each client and I don’t have to stock all different size tips. Just my roll of forms and I’m good to go 👍🏻
Hey Katie, do think the SUNUV SUN3 from Amazon is a strong an enough lamp for curing Akzentz gel products?
For me personally I would not want to risk it. I always recommend using the same brand gel & lamp to guarantee proper curing.
Thank you!
They as recommended the kokosit infinity lamp too. Do you think it will be safe use that lamp with their gel products?
@@caseywilson7482 there are so many factors that play into proper curing. Wattage, bulb type, light wavelength etc. I’m not an expert on what each gel needs or the components of every lamp. Which is why I choose the same brand lamp to guarantee the results.
Katie, wondering if you'll offer PayPal as an option to pay for your online classes?
It is an option! 🙌🏻
@@NailsByKatieDutra OMG yes it is!! Pay in 4!! Whoop whoop!!! Thank you!!!
No problem! Glad to help 🙏🏻🙌🏻🎀
im here bc i love your vids 🥹🫶 im still debating if i want to go to school for it, currently just doing my own for the time.
Thank you for being here! 💖 no rush in deciding, I’d say enjoy doing your own nails and learning. Then if the it feels right the time will come ☺️
