The impossible has happened! I thought OD would never begin purchasing automatic trucks. I work at XPO and we started getting them in as early as 2015 or ‘16 from what I was told by more senior drivers but our fleet remained mostly manuals until just a few years ago. I’ve only been driving trucks for 18 months so I learned primarily on automatics so I can’t say how I feel about the transition to automatics because that’s what I learned on
My understanding is these autos are a supply chain issue. Our company has bought a number of autos this year b/c the auto trans were available vs manuals being unavailable in the number we needed. I may be wrong though.
I drove it yesterday from Columbus Ohio to Altoona Pennsylvania. 578 miles. Holly route. I wasn’t impressed. I actually made a reaction video. Especially trying to back into a dock. There is a delay on the pedal. Not looking forward to them.
