Logitech G915 vs SteelSeries Apex Pro TKL - which is snazzier?

  • This is a video compare the Logitech G915 TKL (in two different versions) with the SteelSeries Apex Pro TKL. This might not make much sense as the Logitech is wireless and SteelSeries is not, but they both have really awesome features that make them appealing. One is comfortable with superb low-slung keys, long battery life and convenient features, the other is incredibly customisable and a joy to use.

Great review, kind of makes me regret that I did not opt for the white colored Logitech G915 TKL. I purchased the black, because at the time I had read some comments about problems with the white keyboard (now I cannot recall what exactly was the problem). I knew about the darkened "symbol" keys (because no lights shine through them) prior to purchase, but they do seem to be a lot more difficult to see than I had expected. If you do not have any lights turned on and allow some natural light in, it can still be difficult to read the symbol keys. Like you said, it's not a terrible deal since people who are really familiar with keys on a keyboard do not need to look down to press them (most of the time). However, sometimes I DO look down if for whatever reason I'm not typing continuously or have my hands positioned properly on the keyboard. When I can't see the symbol I want, it can be a bit annoying. It's satisfactory enough for me to use while traveling or at a coffee shop, just so nice to have a wireless keyboard. I still depend on my old trusty wired Corsair K70 (red, non-RGB) keyboard at home.

I had a Logitech G815 for a few months after they came out, which was also a joy to use - but I went back to the Apex 7 TKL as I missed the desk space from the TKL lol. i pulled the trigger on this board after waiting almost 2 years. Going from my Ducky one 2 mini to this is a leap. Only thing that was stopping me from going to the G915 tkl was the wireless compatibility. If the Apex pro tkl had wireless compatibility then i would purchase in an instant. Another reason was the fact that you are limited in keycap customisation with Apex pro, since the rgb led light on the housing of the switches gets in the way and makes common keycaps stick down. But overall the Apex pro shatters the g915 in overall comparison. Very happy with the purchase, hopefully this can be used as a point for people deciding on a new keyboard.

I wonder which one is more ergonomic? I am testing them both (Apex Pro and G915 Linear) at the moment and I am hell confused which one to keep!
I love the light of the Apex Pro, and also how the key press and release feels. Nevertheless, I get a werid feeling in my wrists and fingers are after typing for some time.
On the other hand, I dont like the light or feeling of the keys on the G915, but it just feels okay-ish to me.
Is there any chance I would get used to the Apex Pro, say after couple weeks of use? Does anybody have a similar experience?
I use the keyboard for typing, no gaming at all.
Thanks in advance for any answers :)

Low profile keyboards such as the 915 are meant to be more ergonomic than these high profile keyboards. The pains sound like early stages of carpel tunnel, I could be wrong. You could try the tactile version of the g915, as linear switches are meant for gaming in general.

    • @nerdstrangler4804
      @nerdstrangler4804 2 года назад +1

For typing you should have probably gone for g915 clicky, tactile if noise is a problem. But having auditory feedback is beneficial if you aren't looking at the screen when typing so you don't have to second guess whether or not a keystroke registered. Linear are really for gaming where you aren't pressing many keys and are usually holding them down, so the priority is on light and speedy actuation. For typing however that can result in a lot of accidental keypresses from bumping neighboring keys. Also because there is no tactile bump you have to bottom out the key to feel it register which can slow you down.
If you do a lot of gaming I think linears are worth the tradeoff, but if you are just typing there is really no point imo.

Bought both in full size versions. Logitech’s lighting is amazing in the white version especially. But the tactile version felt like a cheap keyboard to me. The keys also wobbled and rattled when picked up. Reminded me of my £20 Bluetooth iPad keyboard I bought on Amazon. The steelseries feels amazing in comparison, the switches are buttery smooth and the adjustable actuation point is insane. Linear Logitech switches are out of stock everywhere here so it might’ve been a different story if I compared that version to the SS. But you know, I’ve found my keyboard. I don't like Apex Pro. I think that they ask too much money for it. It costs just like any Varmilo keyboard. But it has ABS laser etched keycaps which won't last long. Its stabilizers do their job quite poorly. Floating key design makes the keyboard produce even more echoing noise. And optical switches are just pointless, you can't even replace them with something else if you want to!
I also don't think that Omnipoint is actually useful. You're getting bottlenecked by USB polling rate which is 1000 Hz (or 1ms). That adds up to monitor latency, network ping, e.t.c.
As for G915, however, I can say that it's good, but it's also kinda overpriced. There's a Kailh's keyboard manufacturer, HexGears. They made a HexGears X1 keyboard with the same switches. And it costs a bit less.

      1) Floating key? What?
      2) Stabilisers are quite good tbh. Maybe the space bar could be slightly better but better than most other keyboards in the category.
      3) They’re standard unit sized key caps so you can replace it. Not ideal but at least doable and customisable.
      4) they not optical. They magnetic hall switches.
That in itself could be 5-6 different points in and of itself. It has pretty much all benefit and no disadvantage and honestly the requirements for production are what makes it rare. It’s pretty much superior to any leaf spring switch.
      5) it’s value it’s entirely up to you or any other purchaser. You wouldn’t buy a luxury car if you didn’t need one. Or a better analogy, buy the toolkit that has the tools you need.

@@11202 do you think is comparable to the Ducky One 2? I'm back and forth between the Apex TKL, Ducky One 2 TKL and Durgod Venus. I can't decide but I've had a corsair and they're pretty garbage and I'm not sure if the Apex is like closer to the Ducky or closer to the Corsair..

@@juststeve6296 hey man getting back to you.
I think it depends a lot on the switch type you’re going to get.
The Ducky One 2 is a pretty good board and arguably a nicer looking one.
Durgod are build very nicely and also pretty good looking and I’d personally go for it over the ducky.
The Apex Pro is my favourite board and I’ve been using it since release despite trying others. It depends however if the feature set is worth the cost to you. Omnipoint switches are smoooooth like the smoothest switches available since they’re magnetic and thus don’t require contact points.
This however is dependant on whether you want linear switches.
If you want clicky or tactile definitely consider one of the other two options.
The OLED is a gimmick however the volume rocker and its accompanying button are super useful.
Stabilisers are decent and beware the cord is super thick but it does give you a FULL USB 3.0 speed port that you can plug anything into even an SSD.
If you have any more queries just reply man and I’ll try to answer any questions you have.
