I ran into this problem a while ago using the ali express flash adaptors. I just recently tried again with the latest dev build and it installs like normal. didnt have to do work around.

You basically have to use a iPod classic for rockbox to work there is some mp3 players that work just check there website for comparability use

Followed your instructions to a T and it did not work for me. The files get on Rockbox but will not play. I have tried over 7 different file formats and none work. Beyond infuriating.
