- Bon Appétit’s Brad Leone is back for episode 70 of It’s Alive and he’s joined once again by friend of the show, Sohla El-Waylly, who teaches him how to make dosa! We may have lost track of what year it is, but “It’s Alive: Home Video Edition - Episode 3” sure has an active ferment, plenty of on-brand catastrophe, and multiple appearances by Clementine and Vito, your favorite dynamic dog pals.

brad trying to impress sohla with his giant bag of basmati rice but her not even noticing is easily the best part of the video.
then he hid it because he thought it was wrong! LOL our classic golden retriever who wants to please!
Emma Labbe I was cracking up on that so much 🤣🤣
Luciano L S huh? No, not at all. I think he just wanted Sohla to be proud of him for getting basmati rice, which he thought was the exact rice for the recipe since it’s also partly an Indian dish. But it wasn’t the exact dosa rice she had so I think he was disappointed and hid it when she didn’t directly acknowledge it.
Omg the number of people who liked this made me so happy i though no one else noticed how adorable that was😤😂🤧
Maria J could it be advertising?
Sohla is the cool valedictorian that explains the concepts to the rest of the class when the teacher doesn't explain them well enough.

Sohla has the calmest chaotic energy I've seen, it balances so well with literally everyone. Also, she needs her own show because I want to watch her calmly do something completely different to what she's meant to be doing
SOHLA

@@jennyleech8893 A classic Ranger type. My fave
Yes!! I was trying to figure out why I loved her so much and "calmest chaotic energy" is a perfect description. Super down-to-earth and fun but also a fantastic and knowledgeable teacher.
Claire balances out Brad’s chaos while Sohla feeds directly into it... love the Sohla cameos lately
brad feels a little directionless when his partner doesn't contradict him though, it's a little like watching a dog catch the car
You said it well
She was more than a cameo in this one. She was the co-star.
They are definitely a good balance on camera. Hope they do more of these. They're too funny put together.
@@tanyaizadora Agreed. Brad asked a lot of questions that people who don't cook might ask and Sohla always has the answer. It was refreshing to see it broken down.
Sohla is hands down one of the best addition to the BA test kitchen. She’s so kind, funny, and such a chill and cool person. She makes every video she’s in a million times better. And she’s an amazing chef too, and brings such fun twists and diversity in her recipes. I really hope they’ll give her her own show once they go back!
I couldn't agree more! I started watching Bon Appetit right before Sohla started showing up on the channel and it was super awesome watching her get comfortable and do her thing. She's so relatable and not only a great chef, but also a fantastic teacher.
ITS BECAUSE SHES SO TALENTED AND CAN DO LITERALLY EVERYTHING
I would love to have a friend like Sohla
Cristina
I think she’s also an advocate for racial equality which makes her even better.
yes I love sohla so much!!! she’s got great energy and great cooking instincts
Just realized why i liked sohla. It's like combining claire's knowledge and explaining what happens if you do this and that, with brad's going rogue nature to try new ideas
beautifully said
Yes this! The carbonara episode she shared with Carla and Chris where she went super experimental by making desert carbonara exemplifies this. Super technical like Claire combined with Brad's off the grid mentality.
except she knows more than claire lol
@@xxzhang well, they have diferent areas of expertise, that's why they need to include more people
@@kirosic1 yea except sohla knows everything about every cuisine lol
Priya is an excellent example of a by-the-book/traditional/mom's-way type of indian chef while most of the other chefs like Molly, Chris, Brad, Claire are more experienced in european/western foods and but I agree these chefs certainly have their areas of expertise.
Sohla on the otherhand can easily mix asian, south asian, middle eastern, and western flavors together so I'd say her skills are much more diverse(like her background is too lol). Most chefs don't have that type of range, so we should give credit to Sohla where its due. And of course she has the most experience(worked in 2 michelin star restaurant, started her own restaurant, 15 years of experience, etc etc) so it would make sense that she's such an all rounder compared to the other chefs.

Why not both?
I want a show where sohla creates experimental versions of traditional dishes so badly
Y'all I think we've nailed it.

"but, you know ...Whatever with Sohla El-Waylly", it is the little sister show to "It's Alive with Brad the Golden Retreiver", Hunzi made the graphic, it has been written, it shall be so
It's such a surprise to find out that Sohla hasn't been paid for her appearances in videos considering how much info she adds to videos. She always gives amazing explanations and goes in depth with the science aspect of the food very often. She's SMART, KNOWLEDGEABLE, AND SKILLED. PAY HER
She's also the only one of the chefs there that owned her own restaurant.
A A she said it herself on instagram
AGREE this is so cringe knowing how she wasn't compensated for her input - ITS NOT TOO LATE BA PAY HER

The fans need to make sure this happens. She's the part of BA that you never knew was missing
I agree. 100% 🙌🏽
I'm a South Indian and we eat dosa almost every day. It's a staple food here.
Soo happy to see this on my favourite BA channel 😍
I'll share a few pointers
1. Here's how the timeline works soak the dal, rice, Fenugreek and small cup of poha(flattened rice) before breakfast in the morning. Let it soak all day. Grind it (without the salt) before you go to sleep. Keep it in a warm place and next day morning it's ready to cook.
2. So the key is to NOT add the salt when you're blending which will make the batter go tangy, watery and spoils the taste. You have to add the salt few minutes before you cook and mix.
It's not supposed to be too tangy. There're million permutations and combinations of dosas you can make and eat with number of chutneys and currys, stir frys etc
3. Season your skillets otherwise it won't come off. When you're cooking you can add any vegetable oil instead of ghee or a mixture of both and sprinkle some spice power. What we use is called chutney pudi or gun powder you can also sprinkle peri peri powder, taco seasoning, Cajun spice etc. Grate some cheese on top and eat. It tastes like heaven ❤️
Yes! Definitely agree with all this
I Know this but i didnt remember it i am going to paste it in my notes thanks
I really don't like Indian food but you've convinced me to try Dosas tomorrow :D

This is a very accurate statement!
Whoever decided to pair Sohla and Brad together needs a raise.
You mean, all of the fans and commenters of BA?

Sohla looks so cute with her headphones, and her card says Clementine's publicist.
Also love Brad and his fermentation romcom drama. His wife and kids are so cute, Peggy, unknowingly eating his Dosa filling and Cal supporting his daddy by eating the first Dosa.
I like how they both had their partners try it at the end too.
Sohla probably has the sweetest personality on RUclips 😁
