Finally another series I've already read most of, my wallet thanks you! I liked most of these, but I haven't gotten much further then you. Sometimes you need a break before diving back in, and your channel gives so many great options to spice things up! You have me waiting for a few Greg Iles books to show up and I just ordered the first Shardlake novel. My next few months are piled high with your recommendations!
The way fights are written is unique also. Reacher plans and controls the whole fight. They showed some of that in the 1st Reacher movie with Tom Cruise. Edit...actually more like fight in the Robert Downey jr Sherlock Holmes movie.
I have to say one thing I absolutely love about you and your booktube Channel Mr Durfee, unlike any other big booktuber, you have great taste and love, read all genres!Fantasy?✅Sci-Fi?✅Horror?✅Western?✅Thriller?✅Classic?✅historical?✅ 70s/80s Rock fan?✅your just awesome and on fire my friend!! I’m currently reading The Stand by Stephen King, I absolutely love how it is a real complete story, I’m like almost 160 pages in and the pandemic hasn’t even ended the world yet, also haven’t even met the main antagonist yet!I love how the story starts from the very beginning! Your awesome my friend, keep it up!!
Finished it today, and I've been wanting to give the "thriller" genre a try. I read mostly fantasy, sci-fi and horror. I don't think its a bad book at all, but I don't think it's for me either. My dad however would love these books. Exactly what he's looking for. I haven't given up on the thriller genre yet though. 7 out of 10 is my score. Thanks for the recommendation.
I’ve read the first 5 Jack Reaxher books but have paused reading the rest. The whole Mary Sue aspect of his character gets old (like you mentioned as a reason you gave your books away), and I’ve yet to read one that is as compelling as that first book. I’ll eventually pick them up again though. Thanks for the video!
Two words very enjoyable!. I read free sample of 3 pages of the novel from the internet. I am going to like this book. I went to B & N, it was the only one left on the shelf. Like these reasons: #1) the story line/ the structure of the story. Ex- MP accused of murder. The only witness is the chief of the police. #2) I really enjoy those routine/ mundane details of the story, eating eggs & drinking coffee. #3) some dry hummers. I enjoyed those as well. The book was well worth reading. I really lookforwrd the second series of the book, die trying. My 👍 👍 👍 up and up.
Thanks, great video! Curious if the Joe Picket novels are similar in framework/style to the Jack Reacher novels. I’ve read 17 JR books and picked up the first Joe Pickett novel based on one of your videos recommending them.
No. Joe Picket makes so many mistakes its funny. That is also part of his charm. He is a bit of a goof. Reacher is 100% the perfect badass all the time
I enjoyed a couple Reacher books too, but my problem is Child reimagined the classic 70’s Men’s Adventure action hero but did/does it about 100-150 pages too long. This is my complaint about most modern books compared to pulp classics: too fluffed up with bullshit. Unless you’re writing an epic fantasy, I don’t see the point of stuffing a book.
Despite many Superman qualities assigned to him, Reacher is very engaging despite that whether in the first or third person. I heard Lee Child say in an interview he made every book up as he went along. Like any series, some are better than others but Child's consistency is surprisingly good.
I do enjoy Lee Child's writing style ... like you said, short, succinct and to the point. He isn't known for having flowery prose. Then again, Jack Reacher isn't exactly a flowery guy either. LOL. However, with this particular book, I wasn't a big fan of. It was definitely a first effort by Lee Child. You really do have to suspend disbelief for some of the scenes in this one. Most especially the final climactic scene where he sees a big pile of money inside the warehouse... just basically strewn all over the place. And not just a big pile, but a mountain of money for anyone to see. LOL - I actually laughed when I read that. Seriously? These cunning villains don't know how to organize the cash they've been taking in for years and years? They just walk in, and throw it on the floor with reckless abandon and let it build up like that over time? That was the straw that broke the camel's back for me. There were other scenes in the book where (after reading it) I was like .... "Yeah, right!" Jack Reacher is a cool character, and fun to read ... but suspension of disbelief is needed before going into this book. Also ... what exactly is the Killing Floor? That is never explained. It was like Lee Child took a cool name, slapped it on the front cover, and said ... "That'll work". I rated it 3 stars out of 5 only for it's sheer entertainment value. Reacher is like Agent xXx (Vin Diesel) ... not even close to being based in reality, but fun to watch.
The Jack Reacher books are brilliant but they need to be well spaced out as they are all basically the same. The very recent ones have not been so good and LC is semi retiring. But Reacher is a fantasy hero - he always wins, he stands up for widows and orphans, doesn't worry about little things like trials and courts, always gets the girl, he's always right about the bad guys who need a kicking and his brother is the sum of his emotional baggage. 🤣 Lee Child does one thing but he does it very, very well. So far the Prime show has been excellent BECAUSE they haven't mucked about with the format much.
I read Midnight Line a Jack Reacher novel which I enjoyed , it had a good story and a couple of others. They more the same. But it's easy to read and entertaining escapism which you want. I hear good reviews of the tv seris. I even liked the two movies starring Tom Cruise, I know the fans of the book didn't approve because he looked nothing like Jack Reacher.

Perfect review. I just read the book last week and am almost through the Prime series. Your spoiler free review is spot on .
Thanks for the good video. JR first part is really good. The series only gets better as it gets older. I have been reading books for 20 years.

Great review.

I own about a dozen Reacher books, it's a fun series and the new show is great.
My favourite Raiders fan
I wanted to cultivate the image of someone with muscles so untamably badass, that my t-shirt groans in pain.
Jack Reacher is basically Louis L'amour set in modern times!
I say get them ...read them. I read book one and currently reading book 2
Keep posting 👍
I tried reading the books after the new show but i just couldn't get into Mary Sue the bounty hunter.

Oh yeah, the Amazon show released like a week ago starring that guy from Titans... anyways.
Good review though, of course!
WOO WOO WOO
You know it!

Killing Floor is an old blues song. As you know in the novel blues music plays a role in the story. It also works as a double entendre of course.

Best book I ever read & I done a lot of time!
