That's We Believe, this song is more about Dokdo island hence the title Arirang alone

I'm Korean and I feel that messages after listening the song.. This could be just my opinion, but Dokdo has a lot of meaning to Korean..I think this song is more than just about Dokdo

Actually, this one version is from a man missing his parents during the time Korean split into two country. That's why you can hear Hallasan - _Highest mountain in South Korea_ and Baekdu/Paektu - _Highest mountain in North._

Arirang, Korea with a long history, was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site on December 5, 2012. In the lyrics of this song, the East Sea and Dokdo appear, showing that it is the territory of Korea.
awesome reaction. Other songs to consider is Bridge Over Troubled Waters, Lean on Me, You Raise Me Up, and Everyone . All these songs were performed on the same TV production as this one. She is a gospel singer, a cancer survivor, and one of the best voices on the planet. On the arrangement, she actually does this to most anything she performs, so it gives the meaning of what she wants to convey but still keeps the respect of the original.
Don't forget Breathe (the best song of them all, the 'I am Singer' version). Pure fucking magic! So Hyang is the ultimate storyteller.

I love watching people react to sohyang for the first time, especially her performance to Arirang Alone.
At first, everyone thought her voice fit into pure type of category, and then she SLAMS everyone with her mixed voice.

The typical folk song arrangement is limited to under 2 octaves, so just about all South Koreans sing it. If you go to the longer KBS video for this performance, you can see kids singing it in a more traditional manner. However, the arrangement sung by Sohyang is epic and few singers in the world can do it well.

You're wrong. Arirang is not the song as you ramble.
In modern times the deep desire for reunification is expressed in this song but it has ancient roots that descend back to a time very long before the division or the Japanese occupation that created it.
Arirang is a folk song with over 600 years of history, and as such, has many regional variations. Arirang Alone is an adaptation of the lyrics on the reunification of South and North Korea, and is only a few decades old. The arrangement here is a reimagined dramatic version that utilizes the talent of Sohyang to tell the story in an epic way.
Sohyang's my favourite singer. I mean, I have favourite artists, who write and perform their own work, but she's my favourite vocalist, as in, the one who I think is the "best", which I realize is subjective...but she literally brings me to tears, and I'm kind of an emotionless type (or at least that's what people think). Also, love the pug cushion.
here is a point to mention she is involved in her own arrangments.she is not new she has been tuning that voice for 20 plus years , she had cancer in her early 20s she is 42 now read her bio she is not only a wonderful singer also a wonderful women
I really love how technical you can get when it comes to singing. But I believe you can get even more technical if you could react to her most difficult song "Everyone". It's her most technically difficult song ever. I hope you could analyze it. Love lots! 💕

Thanks for the So Hyang reax - it's fun for her fans to see a coach react to that crazy high mix for the first time. We all reacted to her pyrotechnics the same way initially, but what made most of us long term fans is the way her spirituality and innate kindness are at the core of every performance. You can't help coming away from watching and listening to her feeling better about the world. If you want to see her at her most pure I would suggest one of the fan cams of her doing Oh Holy Night, complete with singing the last verse and a half from her knees.
I watched this perf too many times, but every time i listen to that first high note i always let a tear out. It just hits u hard.

Good list. I would also add, and high up, her taking on Whitney's "I Have Nothing" at the DMC Festival. Talk about making a song your own, and that's no small feat when it's someone like Whitney Houston who made the song famous.

I really enjoyed this! Especially your comments on the piece itself; it's a traditional folk song and has thousands of versions. Sohyang's version is.. well, hers! Perfectly suiting her vocals and prowess. Also, if this is your first Sohyang performance, she kinda baits you in with that angelic, soprano voice and turns on you SO HARD and just goes full Sohyang on that song. Her "Lean on me" rendition truly shows her gospel background!
Yeah! Warm welcome to the Amazing world of SoHyang.... this is just the tip of her talents, there's so much more to her, she's one who does the arrangements of her performance (maybe with some help) Emotions, she's crazy, it's feels almost she's radiating emotions not sound waves, which will overwrite what we feel with what she wants us to feels, whether you can relate to it or not, makes you see and understand she's talking about.... as long as there's good meaning/message she's open to sing that song even if it's a Rap song or Rock, Pop, Jazz, Blues, originally she's a Gospel singer... She's the perfect singer for me whatever she sing it always put a smile in my face...

ArirangAlone is one of my most favourite songs ever the first time I heard ArirangAlone I nearly cried because it was the most beautiful and heartfelt song that I have ever heard and it touched me so much. I really highly recommend you review the song We Believe
by Sohyang it is one of the most sad and emotional songs that I have ever heard of but it is one of her most underrated songs . I love Sohyang so much she is such a beautiful person both on the outside and inside she is not only my most favourite female singer but she is also such an inspirational person to me because she has been through cancer and she has survived it
Thoroughly enjoy your insights and analyses. If you're a woman of faith, Nina, consider "Everyone"--which Sohyang (a deeply religious Christian woman) has said she tries to avoid singing, because it's one of two songs (besides the exquisite "Hug Me" [another "must" for you]) that she can't finish without crumbling, emotionally, and struggles to get through. Have a towel handy, to soak up the tears!
Especially when she goes acapella; The English subtitles made a huge impact on when when I understood what she was saying.

I am not an any part of vocalist at all, but practicing to be like professional a lot. And every time I hear So-Hyang I notice that level isn't where I can go. Like that holding up the breath ability, bringing her voice to that high note without effort and coming back to low without throat hurt, the sense of her own rhythm and pitch control.
I love her singing for my life! I think I am even lucky to be able to understand her singing in her own language! Because not only her singing technique is impressive, how some of her songs give comfort is amazing. Her performance of singing "Hug me" and "home" is the one you gotta hear if you feel exhausted with your life.
SoHyang isa masterful vocal technician. She KNOWS her voice, her instruments.
She also teaches vocals by the way.

I knew you would like her. She is regarded by many as the queen to dimash's king of vocals. Trust me, she was holding back in this performance. This is a traditional korean folk song but it has been given the sohyang treatment as far as the arrangement is concerned( sohyang does the arrangements for all her performances that you'll see on various tv shows). Interesting that you mentioned 'disney' as she is the voice of moana in the official dubbed korean version of the film( watch 'how far i'll go). She is known as the queen of mix & for her agility moving through the scales & her 'masterful' transitions. She's also regarded as the queen of Bb5.you will be impressed with everything you hear her sing,i'm sure,even if its not your thing & pls dont be put off a performance if its a korean song but there aren't any subtitles because she is the only person(sometimes dimash) who can reduce me to tears when I haven't got a clue what she's singing about, just on the emotion she portrays & dont shy away from her performances on 'king of masked singer' as they are some of her best vocal performances. Many peoples introduction to her was her performance of 'bridge over troubled water' on immortal songs 2 so I suggest maybe that next for you (she speaks excellent english so she doesn't have that asian accent when singing), then maybe 'lean on me' from the same show when michael bolton was the guest & he said her performance was 'spectacular' & that she took on the role of 'virtuoso'. Many people say she sounds like an instrument as she sings with such a clear,pure tone across her range. If you want to see how she fares in the world of the famous singers we all know & love then I suggest you check out her performance of WH's 'i have nothing' from the DMC festival. Could recommend stuff til the cows come home confident that you will enjoy it but i'm sure you'll have many recommendations from others. BTW she can sing any genre,as she did on a weekly basis on 'king of masked singer' where she sang ballads,pop,rock & in one song (day day) she can be heard rapping!! Great analysis! As for the songs to listen to, people have got misty-eyed over her rendition of "Bridge Over Troubled Water" and "Everyone". Personally, I love her performance of "Hug Me" at the DMC Festival 2018 and all of her performances in Kings of the Masked Singer. Some would also recommend "Where Are You" since she hit a B in that song.

Hi Nina, I've only just found your channel and already love it. Perhaps because you're reacting to my favourite female artiste in a very favourable light. So glad you enjoyed Arirang. Perhaps when you have reacted to Everyone you might look at some other Korean songs, one in particular I would like your reaction to is called Please. It was performed on a TV program called Begin Again Korea in an outdoor venue with very little backing. You just get pure Sohyang. She also did a version of I will always love you under the same conditions. I think you will absolutely adore it. Loving you so far.
this is what i imagine a banshee sounds like. the first time i watched this video of hers, i could imagine ghosts/spirits coming out of the ground. this gave me one of the best goosebumps i've had.
