So Hyang is a cancer survivor and the very reason she sings is to give people hope and to cheer them on and it shows in all of her performances. Hence the reason I always cry or feel joy from her performances 🥺
Arirang is a traditional folk song of Korea and also kind of seen as an unofficial national anthem. It is a song that every Korean person knows and very meaningful to the Korean people which is why you saw everyone singing along.
When a singer hits a high note or a beautiful run, that becomes the high point of the song. In Sohyang case, all her competition songs have high points, and the overall song is always something magical. The high points in Sohyang's songs varies. You will be pleasantly surprised (shook in my case) when she hits them be it headvoice runs or arpeggios or long sustain notes or what have you. Too many and too beautiful. She even have that cute little sigh in The Day Sunshine Kissed Me.

I didn't get a chance to comment on this yesterday. I don't remember most of the things I wanted to say, LOL. But the one thing I wanted to say was that I like the way you mention at 11:22 the way that she "was holding it and then she hit it again! ". No one else ever comments on that. I have seen this performance more than a hundred times and numerous reaction videos from many, including multiple individuals with impressive credentials in vocal skills. Yours stood out for me because the way you treat her music more as an art than science. I kept nodding my head when you remarked about the positive energy radiating from Sohyang during the performance. I found your observation about the interaction/chemistry between Sohyang's singing and the violin particularly insightful and relevant. Your notes on her performance and its effect beyond just vocal techniques are so satisfying to hear. I always thought that a performance is more than a replication of beautiful sounds. I agree wholeheartedly. I too found myself nodding my head as Katriinka complimented Sohyang in a way I have not heard from other vocal coach/non-vocal coach reaction videos. On another note, I'm still getting around to listening to all of her other songs. You Raise Me Up was the first song I ever heard from her, then came Bridge Over Troubled Water, then Arirang Alone and a few others. And thanks to you I have just listened to Everyone for the first time. WOW! AND WOW! AND WOW!

Very nice review/reaction. I like your fresh perspective. Everyone is singing along because this Korean folk song is considered to be the anthem of Korea. She really shines in her version of "You Raise me Up", one you should consider checking out. (love that one except for the last note.) Also, an outstanding acapella group to check out is called Voctave. Some choice tunes from them are "O come all ye Faithful", "Mary do you Know", "Disney love Medley" and many more...

So hyang one of my favorite female vocalists. Her performance of “ everyone” beyond amazing. I know you have showcased a few songs by So hyang which I love but please react to her closest and best friend, Park Ki Young, I like Park Ki Young because they have about the same vocal range but Park Ki Young is a tad more versatile and can belt them with equal emotional impact and power in rock, pop, soul, jazz and classical ( opera). A few of my favorites that are worthy of reacting to: ( either privately or publicly) RUclips: “ I dreamt I dwelt in Marble Halls” ( 5:02 duration. A rare hidden gem that she performs the way it was intended to be performed : as an opera in English. Anya’s Version is the standard but sung more as a ballad but Park Ki Young opera style takes you to church and beyond. “ Nella Fantasia “ ( 4:08 best version ever and I’ve watched and listened to all the world class vocalists perform this) “ goodbye a word that’s too short” ( click 5:08 one she sustains the last note forever) “wound” ( emotionally impactful 5:57) “Hit hee Park Ki Young” (one of my all-time favorites 5:18 duration) “Mask”( she was robbed. They gave it to the King. Total highway robbery). “ So hyang” receives a lot more reactors and reactions than Park Ki Young” because of her ability to sing many popular American songs in English which she performs with emotional impact. But please don’t judge a vocalist by the number of requests-altho your fans are usually right. But I’m a professional singer and my singing friends unanimously agree that both So Hyang and Park Ki Young are not only world class vocalists but equal in talent ( there’s even a RUclips video where they compare both vocalists ( Park Ki Young vs So Hyang) It’s a mixed vote. Some say So Hyang , some say Park Ki Young. What I’m trying to say is I believe Park Ki Young deserves more reactions and I promise you and your subscribers who love So Hyang ( and I am among them) that you won’t be disappointed listening to a Park Ki Young song. They are both about the same age ( early 40s but look amazing for their age!) and the closest and best of friends. Please start your Park Ki Young Journey with “ Nella Fantasia” ( click first vid 4:08 duration) which I consider the best rendition I have ever heard of this song and I have heard all the world class vocalists perform it) Then “ I dreamt I Dwelt In Marble Halls Park” ( 5:02). Thank you for checking out Sohyang and giving your thoughts. Yes, this was a very uplifting performance, but don't let that fool you. While she exudes positivity, she also channels emotions in a kind of profound and overwhelming way that regularly causes people to break down in tears. It's pretty amazing, and very cathartic. I'm not generally thought of as Mister Sensitive, but she gets me blubbering like a baby on a regular basis. She seems to really feel the words she's singing and make you feel them as well, and that is her greatest strength even more than her amazing vocal skill.

Great reaction, So Hyang is an amazing singer. Love her control and no one touches her passion when she sings. You should definitely react to Floor Jansen with Nightwish also. Try Ghost Love Score from Wacken 2013. She is amazing as well and there are close ups that clearly show the jaw placements you talk about. She also uses several different styles of vocals from operatic to rock to growls.

Yup, you got it, Sohyang oozes positivity. A lot of her songs contain messages of hope, uplifting spirit or comfort, and other people probably already left her wonderful backstory. However Sohyang also has had performances where she flexes her legendary vocal techniques, acclaimed by vocal pedagogy experts and enthusiasts around the world, and she also had many performances that have been known to rip people's tear ducts open, due to how excellent her emotive capabilities are, on top of her insane vocal techniques. You'll never know which performance will be which, so I often advice to other people prior to watching her, bring tissue, just in case 😁 .
Aririang, In my opinion, represents the typical emotions and souls of Korean people. First of all, it basically gives us the images of mountains, valleys and rivers of the mountainous country like Korea where common Korean men and women have been living for a long time. Therefore, with the word Arirang, The emotions such as joy and sorrow, hope and despair, passion and helplessness, work and rest, tear and laugh as well as meeting and separation of lovers in village people has been mixed and melted as the word Arirang in the context of long and tough Korean history or even in individual story levels filled with sweet and bitterness, and rich and poverty. It may be just like a left-alone wife's long, long waiting for her husband who left far away home for business or warfare. As such, Arirang has formed an proper identity of Koreans, and contains deep breath and sighs of longing for reunion with silent sorrows. Koreans can not clearly define what Arirang is, but we can sympathize one another. So, we can safely say that Arirang is an image of an soul of common of Korean peple's joy and sorrow. Of course, "Arirang Alone" may reveal the earnest wish of reunification of south and north Korea. I guess Sohyang's waving arm-and-hand-dance shows somehow the waving ups and downs of high mountain hills and valleys and the lives themselves of village people filled with joy, angry, sorrow and pleasure with the refrain verses of "Arirang, Arirang, Arariyo~~". Also her version of, Bridge Over Troubled Water is superb! Besides writing several sci-fi novels she has written several children’s books! Done performances at churches. Concerts, sporting events( 1st Korean to sing Anthem at NBA game also at American Baseball games,) in 32 countries! How about a pop song she did with JinJoo Lee ( her sister in law)The Song Begins, it has a video they did in California. Also on a lot of her records she does her own back up vocals! She also teaches some music courses at university! Her father in law is her manager, her mother in law is her best friend! Sohyang is very good,really amazing voice. If you like her,ur going to love Morissette Amon. She does amazing things with her voice and great breath control. In the song,Akin ka na lang she does vocal gymnastics for 17 seconds with one breath,twice. She's also called the Mariah Carey of the Philippines.
Originally this song was much more sorrowful. Immeasurable depth of sorrow and suffering of people but still just pinch of hope that someday it'll end, Endure together. But certain point Korean people's attitudes and tendency changed more hopeful and encouraging, but never forget suffering and sorrow. It makes this song very emotional.

While she exudes positivity, she also channels emotions in a kind of profound and overwhelming way that regularly causes people to break down in tears. It's pretty amazing, and very cathartic. I'm not generally thought of as Mister Sensitive, but she gets me blubbering like a baby on a regular basis. She seems to really feel the words she's singing and make you feel them as well, and that is her greatest strength even more than her amazing vocal skill.

Great reaction, So Hyang is an amazing singer. Love her control and no one touches her passion when she sings. You should definitely react to Floor Jansen with Nightwish also. Try Ghost Love Score from Wacken 2013. She is amazing as well and there are close ups that clearly show the jaw placements you talk about. However Sohyang also has had performances where she flexes her legendary vocal techniques, acclaimed by vocal pedagogy experts and enthusiasts around the world, and she also had many performances that have been known to rip people's tear ducts open, due to how excellent her emotive capabilities are, on top of her insane vocal techniques. You'll never know which performance will be which, so I often advice to other people prior to watching her, bring tissue, just in case 😁 .
Aririang, In my opinion, represents the typical emotions and souls of Korean people. First of all, it basically gives us the images of mountains, valleys and rivers of the mountainous country like Korea where common Korean men and women have been living for a long time. Therefore, with the word Arirang, The emotions such as joy and sorrow, hope and despair, passion and helplessness, work and rest, tear and laugh as well as meeting and separation of lovers in village people has been mixed and melted as the word Arirang in the context of long and tough Korean history or even in individual story levels filled with sweet and bitterness, and rich and poverty. It may be just like a left-alone wife's long, long waiting for her husband who left far away home for business or warfare. As such, Arirang has formed an proper identity of Koreans, and contains deep breath and sighs of longing for reunion with silent sorrows. Koreans can not clearly define what Arirang is, but we can sympathize one another. So, we can safely say that Arirang is an image of an soul of common of Korean peple's joy and sorrow. Of course, "Arirang Alone" may reveal the earnest wish of reunification of south and north Korea. I guess Sohyang's waving arm-and-hand-dance shows somehow the waving ups and downs of high mountain hills and valleys and the lives themselves of village people filled with joy, angry, sorrow and pleasure with the refrain verses of "Arirang, Arirang, Arariyo~~". Sohyang is very good,really amazing voice. If you like her,ur going to love Morissette Amon. She does amazing things with her voice and great breath control. In the song,Akin ka na lang she does vocal gymnastics for 17 seconds with one breath,twice. She's also called the Mariah Carey of the Philippines.
