“I want to motivate and inspire others to follow their dreams…corny? Well maybe but it’s true. So what’s motivating me?? I had a huge tumour removed summer 2016. However, despite not being able to walk for a few weeks, and feeling generally awful…. It has made me create and do what I love! It wasn’t an easy time but I won’t let fear dictate my life. I didn’t think ‘why me’, there are plenty of horrific issues people have to deal with…it’s not always smooth sailing. It’s true when you hear, ‘Life is short’, the crazy thing is, I am glad it happened…I appreciate life even more and try to practice gratitude everyday…It’s so easy to get caught up with the little things…and I do sometimes, but look at the bigger picture, will it matter in a year or two…we are all specks of dust…Also thank you for all your support. It means a lot. I have suffered from anxiety from the past and self confidence, (yeah hard to see now right) didn’t think I was ‘good, or worthy enough’ but I feel I have a new lease of life, don’t really care as much and want to show you guys what I have! : ) You are all awesome and without you, there would be no channel.

Her abilities as an Arranger are simply stunning!
If I’m not mistaken, SO HYANG was diagnosed with cancer…after surviving the ordeal she saw her second chance at life as a gift from God and dedicated her voice/life to brining joy to others…she is a gospel singer who grew up singing in church and she rejected international fame choosing instead to sing only for Jesus and to raise money for charity. This is why I believe we feel so much from her singing...its from above and real.
The doctor told me to take a rest even though it was pneumonia, but Sohyang took part in the contest. Sohyang not human she's angel 👸👼 😆👍

My beard is wet again. I was trying to pinpoint what exactly the So Hyang effect is, and I got there early this morning when I was out exercising. She takes a very good song and turns it into a great song. I never really rated this song as up there with the best, but her version is by far the greatest I have heard. I believe I will never ever hear it done better. Now, to me, this is a great song. The same goes for 'Bridge over troubled water.' Just incredible. I cannot go a day without hearing her sing. If that's called addiction, then I am addicted and very pleased to be so. Thank you God for this wonder of your ' making.

Pop singer So-hyang completed an all-time performance with world-renowned producer David Foster in his performance celebrating the 30th anniversary of Blue Note.
At a concert held in Blue Note, Tokyo, Japan from November 30 to December 3, Sohyang won MBC's 'I Am a Singer' program and won a number of hits including 'I Have Nothing,' 'Oh Holly Night,' 'Bridge over Trooved Water,' 'I Will Always Love You' and 'Stevever.'
In particular, the concert was the first Korean artist to be invited to the concert, and Brian McKnight also participated in the concert to complete an all-time collaboration, which was not easy to see, and the audience went wild every time, causing another sensation in Japan with standing ovations and cheers.
David Foster, who performed with Sohyang on the day, said, I really wanted to meet her and I was happy to be able to perform with her. This is her recent performance on Immortal Song for the Westlife special (this show was where she did her own arrangement of Arirang Alone, Lean On Me, Bridge Over Troubled Water etc). She’s sang the original version multiple times already, so she changed it up for the competition. Her fansite said she was told by her doctor not to even speak during this time when she filmed the show, so it makes things even more amazing.
Please listen to Everyone! She sang it on Immortal Song as well, and she personally said it was her most challenging performance/song she’s ever done. You’ll love it, it’s insane. It’ll probably make you cry as well 😂

Rebecca , there’s another song called “everyone” sung by So Hyang in this same TV program. It’s kind of a gospel song and the way she sang , just took my breathe away. so flawless and mind-blowing.

It is interesting to take a careful look at almost every note So Hyang sings. Many of the notes that we really don't notice are receiving some sort of subtle treatment, but produce that incredible overall effect. We hear two people sing the same song and cant explain why one feels better. Pick any three second piece out of a So Hyang song and listen carefully to each note - there is nothing plain about what she is doing.

What a rendition of I Will Survive! Perhaps another voice coach can react to your singing here:-) It's indeed a masterpiece. So my favorite vocal coach returned to check on Sohyang. Love your comment that this is a cinematic experience - it is Sohyang's personal story per her own words. Love your breaking down the song to talk about the details of her performance. Very informative about the comments on different elements, pitch, timing, runs, transition, key change, the dynamic, the emotion - and the earings...very cool. Literally I was done 10 seconds into the songs with the sound of the celtic flute at the intro, completely mesmerized at 3:30 when she sang in her whispering voice as if in a conversation. At 4:15 (of this video) when she went into the run with the participation of the flute again, my soul was snatched. At 5:06, felt the full blow of the darkened tone even in my soulless state. Before I know it, I was resurrected with the series of powerful notes at 6:04 - I was shocked to return to life. From 6:30 and on, it was just waves of jolts of energy that fully animated my defenseless self. I surrendered to her performance with my rejuvenated spirit. Sorry I got a little carried away here. I supposed I just got so inspired by your analysis. Thank you for this joyful reaction.

Hi Rebecca great review. Can i suggest that you react to So Hyang singing "I have nothing" she totally tore up Whitney's song and then some. In my humble opinion she is THE BOSS pitch, note length, range, dynamic's, breathe controll, emotions this lady could sing her weekly shopping list and I would have goosebumps she is simply awesome.

When I first heard this, I was stunned by Sohyangs' presence but also thought the arrangement was a little weird/awkward for some reason. And then, I listened to it a couple of times more. Now I am thoroughly addicted.
Sohyang has been singing the original song for more than a decade (as a gospel song in churches and charity events), and it was and is very important to her. The arrangement she put out in Immortal songs was actually the 8th edition she was working on, and the reason she, her family and her composer worked so hard on it is because - as she said - this song reflects her own life and she wanted that to show. At the same time, she wanted to make a partial tribute to Westlife and Irish music that popularized the original song in the UK (which is the reason for those Celtic/Irish influences inside the re-arrangement).
When recorded back in this April for the show, Sohyang was in a pretty bad shape health wise (recovering from the 4th pneumonia in 3 years and also dealing with other health problems related to her condition). Hell, her doctor advised her to not even talk on that night. She really wanted to do this though, and although in the performance itself it shows that she is not 100%, she did a truly astonishing job.
I wish her good health and to continue comforting people with her signing. She is a truly inspiring artist and person. You should react more to her performances btw...each and every one are pretty much superlative (and varied too!). Cheers..C:

In a recent interview So Hyang did state that she might not be able to sing for very much longer because of liver problems.
Akane Cortich no, she said she thought about not continuing to sing anymore because of her health problems but thanks to the fans and when she participated in King of Masked Singer, her confidence was renewed. She’s not gonna stop singing. Also, pretty sure she doesn’t have liver problems but problems with her lungs (it’s a mistranslation)
