This was super fun to play - and it keeps getting better with every build I've tried. Doku knows his craft and I'm grateful to have him as part of the community and as a Technical Artist on Transience! I can't wait to see where OOA goes.
I don’t know why I find it hard to believe this is only one person cause it looks SO GOOD for it to be one person. I really like the graphic style. The gunplay looks top notch. The amount of content this early. Very impressive stuff. Definitely see the potential here. And like you said. If he had unlimited resources, the possibilities are endless and this could easily be a top tier game.
the game shown when you mention the inspirations was NEOTOKYO kshatriya, which is my single player total conversion mod of HL2, not NEOTOKYO (2009) which is studio Radi-8's f2p source engine mp game. I appreciate the coverage tho :P
@@FLeXn_YT you praising this bare bones, featureless, basic shooter that any experienced def can do in a few days with something like unreal. :D acting like this would ever have a chance and not die.
@RandomName let me see you do it since it's so easy. Reply back with a demo similar or even close to as shown in the video and then we can talk. Till then keep on hating 🤣
i've been following this thru a couple ppls' vids and it looks more and more polished every time a new vid on it pops up, i'm hyped to see where it goes
Damn Doku is insane. Also another random fun fact, he made the Dokucraft texture pack for Minecraft all those years ago. He made my childhood minecraft experience so pretty! He's hella talented!
Honestly, those movement mechanics really got my attention. The forward barrel-roll and what looked like a side-strafe-roll; big 👍to that! Granted, I'm not necessarily a FPS, BR type gamer, but when a game has really good movement mechanics and a lot of fluidity that I, the squishy human being sitting at the keyboard and mouse, get to use to control the character on the screen, HELL YEAH LET'S GO!! I can find some fun in that. Looking forward to seeing how this progresses.
Everything looks so crisp and smooth in this game. A level of polish I rarely see in AAA games as of late. The movement and gunplay is what excites me the most. Let's get this man some support! I'd throw him a few bucks to develop it further and faster!
when you mentioned blacklight retribution that gave me nostalgic memories 😭 It was one of the first fps game I was obsessed with when I younger, even though I am 16 close to 17 y/o. Still remember playing it with my friend all night.
2:02 I knew it! I got an instant Blacklight Retribution flashback as soon as I saw the gameplay! I've spent a lot of time with Blacklight, it was a great experience.
I totally thought of GITS with those "Ranger Eyes" some of the models have so not surprised to see it is taking inspiration from it. It's got a great look. I hope it works out.
Doku is one of the devs that inspire me to create videogames, this 1 passion project as everything that 5 and 10 year old me would have jumped on to have fun and even i as a 22 year old kid, i live for a game that's this bold in the style and gameplay
definitely loving the 3d anime graphics look its refreshing to see a different look to these generic realistic look to fps shooters thing this will be on my Wishlist straight away when it goes live on steam!
This is a modern The Specialists mod, which went on to also become TSRP and some of the best interactions prior to GMOD. PVP fights that rivaled any other. If he could pull off what those guys did way back in HL days we'd have a winner.
I agree about the art direction; the "placeholder" level visuals actually work well with this particular art style. I'm hoping he doesn't clutter it up too much in later releases, because there's something distinctive about the cold, clean look of the thing right now; reminds me of the distinctive blue/green/grey look of Metal Gear Solid. Which... makes sense I guess if it was inspired by things like Ghost In The Shell.
Dam, this looks super impressive already, doubly so with him being a single developer!! Hope he gets lots of support for this. I'll be keeping up with this game. One I'll be wish listing when it's out of steam.
Yes this caught my eye too and its been a long while since ive seen something that actually got me interested. Its different, separates itself from every other clone out there.
I really like the take on the movement, goldeneye immediately came to mind. Adding the rolling, diving, and leaning already have my attention. I can't wait to see what else he does with this title.
he should get funding and develop this game full time, there are so many groundbreaking features in his demo that would blow the industry up, gameplay and art style is more important then photorealism
IT BLOWS MY MIND Think back to Out of Action. Which does not even have a product page on steam even tho it's 1000x more game than any of "Polygon Art"s "games" combined. It's insane.
I gotta say that shit is looking hella fresh and fluid, those roll/dive animations from first person and seeing them third person look really good. Especially that roll kick at the 1:05 mark, overall giving me some good old TF2 vibes... 👍
Wait...Blacklight and NeoTokyo were so good back in the day. Mix that with GiTS and Akira and you got me super intrested. Just the visor tap mechanic from Blacklight sold me on this
"The best fps player controller that I've ever felt. You can dive, roll, prone, and 360 slowmo, dive with akimbos." Double Action boogaloo: Sad abandoned noises.
I really like the fluidity, the aesthetics, I just wish it wasn't like it seems another multiplayer frenetic game. This sort of action included in a single player open world or big world would be great. BTW I always appreciate that when the resources are not avaiable to pull out sthg more or less realistic looking, to go for the "artistic" style, like almost every Arkane game has, or Bishocks, etc, it's a great way to keep it stylish without hugging resources.
Do you remember the old PC game SOLDIER OF FORTUNE where you can shoot off limbs and chunks of flesh (it was ahead of its time). Will you be able to do that in this game too?
Cell-shaded is commonly overlooked. I don't care about graphics too much. Needs to look okay, but gameplay is what matters. We need more cell-shaded games.
This game really reminds me of double action boogaloo if anyone here has ever played that game😂. I enjoyed that game and this game looks like I'll enjoy it too
Out of Action looks absolutely brilliant. It boggles the mind to think that it was made by one man, meanwhile whole teams of people with millions of dollars in budget can't even crack the basic fundamentals shown in Out of Action. I respect the man a lot for being very cautious about generating too much hype around the game before he's ready to release it to the public for testing. I'm sure as soon as he begins selling the game he'll be generating ridiculous amounts of revenue and attention, and consequently likewise amounts of pressure and stress. I wish nothing but the best to this man, here's hoping he'll be able to maintain motivation and continue making his game. Been dying for a quality new shooter for too long, much as I'm sure most have.
the game looks incredible but what is up with the pump actions animations sometimes it looked like it was only getting pumped a 1/3 of the way others a full pump and the reload looked like it was in the pump not the reciever itself
YOOOO THIS LOOKS AMAZING!!!!! like REALLY FUCKING GOOD!!!! however, I do wonder how i would have felt about it if you, bigfry, were down talking the game and making it seem like trash instead of hyping it. sometimes i wonder if the content creator's opinion sways the opinion of the viewer. in this case, this game looks so good that it doesnt matter, but I wonder if it can/does have an affect. I would be intertested in you doing a couple experimental videos about that type of thing. like perhaps in a few weeks or a month make another commentary using the same game footage and see if new viewers have a different reaction to the game in the comments. or perhaps collab with another creator who has energy that is similar to yours and one of you be the good cop and other be the bad cop and compare the reactions/results and make a video about it.

2:03 Neotokyo is a mod for HL2 that was released standalone.
Really digging the aesthetic of this game.
the gameplay (without the technical gadgets) is a remake from the Half-Life Mod: The Specialist. (which I played quite a lot)

That roll mechanic is really cool, I've never seen anything like that in other game.
star wars: battlefront 2 (the 2017 one) has it on standard infantry but it feels a lot clunkier than this one looks
