That's my brother, Steve Hardin, playing harmonica. He and Glen are at at The Old Ryman Theater in Nashville. Steve's harp tone is the last recorded performance on the original Grand Ole Opry stage. Thanks for asking! He's playing in Heaven now.
I just listened to three versions of this song, sung by Hank Williams Sr, Elvis, and this one. They're all nice in their own way. Personally, I think Elvis has it over the other singers. Yet I'm drawn to this one, maybe because of what Elvis said, that this is the saddest song he'd ever heard--- in his life! :D Well no offense to Glen Campbell, but what makes this performance is that saddest-song-in-the-world, gut wrenching blues harmonica. Damn, that guy is good! Now that he's been identified, I think the title of this should be "Glen Campbell, with Steve Hardin! ::)
RIP Steve Hardin Your Brother was the Greatest Harmonica player I've ever heard It brought me to tears I Love the Song My Dad is now 93 He played Guitar and Sang and Loved Hank Williams Sr and this Song and So do I.He sounds like Hank Sr and Jimmy Roger's Your Brother Played it Beautifully and I Listen to it over and over. I saw this performance on TV. Thanks and He will Always be remembered He was a Fine Musician God Bless and Thank you for This ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Love Elvis doing this Song too ❤️ Steve Hardin was the Star of this one He was Great it made it How Hank Sr sang it to be Sad Like Elvis said one of the sadest songs he'd ever heard. I Love Evis Have for at least 45 years He was the Greatest can you imagine Elvis and Steve Singing and Playing this Song Together in Heaven I hope to hear and see it one day God Bless
By FAR; the Deepest, Loneliest and therefore greatest song ever written.......EVER. You look down with pride Hank. Because we will never forget what you left us here........
I thought Glen was very good, no doubt about it....and then I heard this. Soulful, tearful, powerful. A masterpiece. ...And Steve on the harp... warm and heartfelt, and yet almost spine chilling. Takes you deep within.
The Harp Player is Steve Hardin who worked during many years with Glen Campbell and many many others among whose Waylon Jennings. He was also a reggae artist and more or less discovered and revealed the talent of Grechen Wilson.
Did you know that Glen Campbell recorded 29 demo songs for Elvis that were recently (circa 2019) discovered in some salt mine. They are available to listen to on you tube.
wishing some good fortune to the wonderful man , with his recent serious problems....this clip shows again the great feeling and depth of Glen's singing.....beautiful work sir.......
Well, actually, the performance I just mentioned DOES exist - it's the 4th song on the Glen Campbell Medley of Country Hits ~ RUclips. They weren't wearing gig duds for that one.
Would you settle for mp3s? www.amazon.com/Remember-Hank-Williams-Glen-Campbell/dp/B000SYNFZK/ref=tmm_msc_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=&sr= I have that album on 8-Track. I bought a Glen Campbell compilation on CD which includes most (if not all) of those tracks.
What harmonica key is this? Gosh, this is so amazing. Glen sang in perfect pitch with many inflections. He was a talent and-a-half--one-in-a-million. No one could make a song sadder than Glen. Thanks for posting this, what a thrill to watch.
C_ Farther No. Jerry Lee in his prime had the most haunting voice of them all with that sad, lonesome quality to it. Add to that his piano playing and his bluesy slurs and slides which sound so spontaneous, and you had a completely unique performer who project more emotion than any other Country singer, male or female.
Just found this clip and scratching my head at a few comments. Steve's sister says it's in Nashville, but I'm pretty sure it's from a concert in Dublin. Know it's G on guitar but didn't want to question harmonica players!

This is the most amazing version of any song I've ever heard and I've been playing it every day. Are you sure that this isn't in Dublin?

Amazing! Glen's soulful voice and Hardin's pleading harmonica bring it home! They are both masters of their trade.
What a harmonica player. Awesome 😊
A fabulous rendition to one of the best lyrics ever! This should have millions of thumbs up!
I can barely stand up after that. Hauntingly beautiful.
Harmonica player is Steve Hardin. Was in Glen's band for about 4 years in the early 80's.
Hauntingly beautiful.
This is the single most beautiful thing I have ever heard!

Playing the harmonica is an understatement that guy owns it that’s the best Harmonica player I’ve ever seen

Glen did an album of Hank Williams music that was great. I wish they would remaster for a CD.

Take me now, Lord..
glen campbell? Who knew? I had no idea he had such a rich voice. Egads...and i'm not overly fond of country guys too.
Such a grand, amazing rendition of this old hank song,,,I'd say a close other rendition of same song was by Jerry lee Lewis, a great unique version
Glen does Hank Williams better than Hank Williams did.....fantastic!

Listen to BJ Thomas if you want to hear perfect pitch.
The song is in the key of G... Steve Hardin is playing a C diatonic harmonica in 2nd position (cross-harp)... wonderful job too !
B.j. Thomas does my favorite version.
To the 9 that gave hands down ..u do not know good music . R.I.P.
Key of G. Sorry everyone.
