Fill the bowl of cooked chickpeas back with water and rub handfuls together with flat palms, then most the skins will float to the top. A much faster process.
-Lebanese vegan
Thanks you for this! It worked perfectly 👌
Thank you! I was seriously pinching each chickpea individually. 😅
Thanks ;)
@@hankiespice me too!! This will be a life saver.
Looks fucking amazing
The texture is unbelievable! My vegan kids love hummus but have never liked homemade because it's usually thick/ chunky. So thankful for this recipe right now!
Lol Same!! I thought I was the only one who made thiiiiick hummus. I need a better food processor for one thing.
@@consciousobserver629 same here. Allways thick and chunky. A high speed food procesor is need it in my kitchen
I’ve incorporated hummus in my pasta dishes to replace Alfredo and it’s been the best thing ever
Genius!!
To peel it quickly pit it on a cloth cover it and move it back and forth most of the skin will be removed
OH MY GOODNESS!!! I can't believe the difference between the fresh peas and the canned. I have tried making it with canned lots of times and ended up throwing it away. But this is the taste I was going for, thank you. I have a new Instant pot and haven't figured out how it works, so I over cooked the peas, which means peeling was out of the question. I dumped the batch in the blender, followed the rest of the instructions and it came out as smooth as butter. Evidently the overcooking softened the skins, so I will be overcooking them going forward because it solves the peeling job and there are no lumps. Next time I will try cutting the recipe in half, because the full recipe is a lot for one person.
Love this. I hate thick, chalky hummus that I get in restaurants. Sabra that I get at the store is really creamy, but I go through a package quickly. I've been buying the cheaper stuff when I have to, then adding water and lemon juice and minced garlic before serving to make it smoother before serving. This recipe motivates me to make my own -- yum!
Nancy Cronk adding to a cheap option is such a good idea in a time crunch!
I get the little salad brand at Aldi. Taste is pretty good at a much lower price.
Video starts at 2:50
Girls I don’t have that much time to peel my 534 chickpeas :(
Owaoo great video ❤❤
Well, like Caitlin said - you don't have to :)
lazy
Honestly even if I had time I'd rather do something more enjoyable like playing a video game, reading a book, watch netflix, go for a run, than spending 20-30 minutes peeling chickpeas. Seriously...
Someone mentioned to fill a water bowl and put chick peas rub together handfuls with flat palms and the skins will float to the top
Can't wait to try this recipe, been making my own hummus for years but I've never been able to make it super smooth, lots of great tips here.
Also, favourite way to eat hummus - in a sandwich with tonnes of hummus, avocado, cucumber, lettuce, tomato and grated carrot. YUM!
Brighid Golden that sounds amazing 😋
Hummus is an Arabic word that literally means "chickpeas". So all these brands selling pastes or whatever made with different beans have no idea what the f they talking about calling it hummus
Tagr R. Exactly
Thank you!! I just saw Chocolate hummus in a grocery store last week???! So disrespectful to the chick peas...
Nora Chance I’m pretty sure the dessert hummus I’ve had does have chickpeas in it
@@AS-uy2ud yeah I made dessert hummus with chickpeas
Words take on new meanings. That doesn't mean it is incorrect
Caitlin! I made this hummus yesterday and it is by leaps and bounds better than any I've ever had. I forgot to put the baking soda in so it took me two hours to take the husks off of 3 cups of chickpeas but it was well worth it. So far I've found the best way to eat this hummus is with a drizzle of good olive oil and a spoon. Thank you so very much for sharing this recipe.
Loved this. Definitely prefer the demo videos like this to the overhead ones as they showcase your personality more but I totally get that the overhead ones are more accessible and quick. Keep up the good work!
I have made it so many times, it is so good! never went back to store bought hummus. I really enjoy this type of videos!
Hi, I had some dried english sweet peas from my garden and made them into hummus using your recipe and technique. was outstanding! I drizzled some muffaleta olive salad on top, it was delicious! thanks!
I’ve made this hummus maybe 5 times now and I adore it! Thank you for this wonderful recipe. I’ve shared it with so many friends! ☺️
Okay I’m not usually one for actually trying out recipes because I really enjoy just throwing things into a dish based on taste but MAN! Your granola AND hummus recipes are genuinely, wholeheartedly, and entirely THE ABSOLUTE BEST hummus & granola I have ever tried in my twenty years of life. So good???? I cannot wait to try every single other recipe you have ever made
I tried a fancy hummus brand from the shops and it was suuuper creamy and fluffy probably because they peeled the skins, I really want to make it myself now because it was so good.
I’ve heard that if u blend (of food process) the tahini for a bit first it makes it much better
C Yes! It fluffs up the tahini.
C yes, it works! I got creamy hummus by blending tahini with lemon first then adding the other ingredients
We call the chickpea skins 'hoodies' I will tell my kids to help me in the kitchen by taking the hoodies off the bum beans, lol
Shellie Carter sounds like a fun and interesting spin on things SMART TACTIC if u ask me 😉
Lol! Bum beans!
Bum beans 😂😂
I live in Israel, and i make and eat a lot of hummus. The best tip i can give you is to cook a big amount of chickpeas, and then frize it. Then when you want hummus you just unfreeze a small amount and its ready in 5 minutes. It's taste the same as the fresh cook hummus
Hallel Cohen i do the same! It’s a life savior
Wow thank you. Did not know that.
I like this demo style too! It feels more casual and conversational! I am going to Israel all summer and I cannot wait for the hummus XD
Loving these one recipe videos! you should make them for all your most popular recipes!
I've been wanting to try hummus but wanted to have good quality. Now I can, and also make dessert topping with the rest of the chickpea. Thank you!!
garlic doesn’t need to be used in houmous- my dad makes it, has grown up with it being arab, and simply uses soaked chickpeas, tahini, lemon juice, ice & salt. you seem to know the best way to make it though! amazing x
I love hummus with chips or carrots and also a spread for my veggie sandwiches. I recently started making a hummus pasta and it’s so good.
Cait you could use the vitamix for future uses to save time with the peeling. The vitamix is so powerful the recipe book that comes with it calls for actual sesame seeds instead of tahini.
If you want to plate it nicely you can get a big spoon and drop a big dollop in the middle of the plate and then push while making a swirl with the back of the spoon. That's how they do it at the Israeli restaurant I used to work at. Also a really good topper is the herb Za'atar. Thanks for the tip on peeling them!
Great tips, Caitlin. Thanks for showing us how you do it. Love the video style today.
I've just made this recipe and I have to say it is the best humus ever well worth the effort.
This looks amazing! I usually get store bought hummus, with the added garlic chunks, or roasted red peppers... I really should make my own, I love so many varieties! 😊 Great video!
I made this and it turned out incredible! I added turmeric and cumin for something a bit extra. Thank you for this video!
Same, i just went to Jordan (next to Israel) and the hummus is unreal, amazingly good, like my husband does not like our (europe) hummus at all but there he was like omg best thing ever, so i was just in a lookout for an authentic recipe :D
Enjoyed this recipe so much, won't go back to store bought whenever possible.
Great video Caitlin! I wish peeling of the chickpeas was easier. Whenever I eat something with chickpeas, I always get a painful stomachache. When I removed the skin from the chickpeas when I made hummus, I didn’t get a stomachache! That’s when I learned that my digestive system can’t handle the skins.
Kandace Boothe that’s really interesting! Though I’m sorry to hear that☹️ I saw a couple other people comment about laying the chickpeas on a kitchen towel, then rubbing another towel over the top is an easy way to get most of the skin off, it that helps!
Exactly what I needed tonight! Thank you for posting.
I finally made this... and WOW!! SOOOO GOOD! Thank you Caitlin!!!
I totally agree with you. We have gotten to the point of fearing fat to the degree of ruining recipes that were meant to be! I still use Shirley Bar Living tahini, which I discovered because of YOU! Hugs from TEXAS!
I have tried your recipe and have to say it is yummy delicious 😋!! Thx !!
Amazing tips! One thing to notice is that the tahini is the oil in hummus, so it's not really oil free. But what matters is the quality and kind of oil :)
I really enjoyed this style of video! Teach me more things!!
Hi Caitlin! How would you recommend cooking the chickpeas on the stove or in a slow cooker if we don't have an instant pot? Thanks for the recipe! I always skin my chickpeas too :)
Ofcourse
I used to eat lots of humus. I bought the cheapest tub and blended it with tahini sauce to make it creamier 😆 I’m going to definitely be trying this recipe. Thank you!
I love your way of cooking: easy shmeazy and well thought out🤗👏
My first attempt: IP turned soaked chickpeas to mush after 10 min so I had to go with skins. Still turned out pretty awesome! thx
It is a very nice idea because you like hummus to make a video with 5 foods you can make with hummus in them👍🏻
Excited to try! Did you put your Instant Pot pressure on low or high?
Loved this video ❤️ I prefer this style with you chatting too us
I've never tried hummus, can't wait to try this out !
Whaaaaat?
I love the sabra hummus at the store but homemade hummus just cannot be beat! Its the best! Thanks for the recipe! ❤️🌿
I’ve been wanting to make my own hummus recently! Great timing! Thanks for the video!!
my fav way to eat hummus is with carrots (or any raw veggies really lol). it’s also bomb on toast/a sandwich with spinach, tomato, cucumber, carrots, avocado, and alfalfa sprouts yummmm
Hummus is great I remember the first i tried it and then I came across jalapeno lime hummus and that was fantastic
It must taste heavenly w/o the added oil steps. Peeling skins?! Holy crap that sounds so-o-o-o-o smooth right now.
I'm so excited to try this new method of making hummus! Thank you!
I am definitely a hummus fiend! That ice water thing is a great tip! I had no idea...and I prefer the front videos rather than overhead.
This is exactly how I make my hummus too, though sometimes I process it for 10 minutes.
Love this demo!
I tried making this and my instant pot made the chickpeas into a soupy texture where I was unable to wash out the baking soda (it just made it more soupy and soapy). I was so sad because I was so excited for this recipe lol. Will try it again. Not sure what went wrong.
Bethany Shannon I had a similar experience. The video tutorial has inspired me to try again. I have the same instant pot so 12 mins. should do it however I’m tempted to cook them for a shorter timeframe. I’m a rule follower so I’ll probably try it one more time at 12 mins.. 🙂
You probably cooked them too long. I’ve never had chickpeas get mushy and soupy but I’ve had it happen with other beans.
Wow Great timing! I can’t wait to try the recipe 💚💚💚
Oooh girl. I'm getting married and I've been STRUGGLING trying to figure out vegan food to serve but this is PERF! Thanks
Kalene Fowler check out fablunch and pickuplimes tried a few of their dishes and DELISH u wont know where to start also try caitlins chocolate and raspberry tart 👌🏻👌🏻 very yummy
@@jillybean9569 Hey thanks!!! :)
I love this and cannot wait for what to do with leftovers
Loving your content so much lately!!
You seem so happy in this video! Hummus has that effect on people ;) Thanks for the recipe!
My favorite way to eat hummus is stirred in with sauteed baby spinach and chopped artichoke hearts and stuffed into a warmed whole wheat pita!
I Love Hummus, but yours looks awesome! I will be trying this very soon!
Love me some hummus with veggies or bread sticks! Love your channel, the demos are a nice extra!♥️
Totally making this!
Ohhhh I am definitely having this for my lunch next week!
I have to try this absolutely ! It seems to be perfect... Thanks for all of your videos
Rub soaked chickpeas between two dish towels. So easy!
This looks delicious! And I love this style of video; I love watching people cook and chat haha.
your hummus is the only kind i have been making for months now!!
This is hands down the best hummus, I try to make it every week!
For how long can I storage it in the fridge?
I made beet hummus a few times then decided to make regular hummus, then this video came out :D
I have alway made my own hummus. Please show us the ways I should be using it.
You went to Israel a year ago and I miss that 😭 wish I could say hello
Can you please tell me where did you buy this white plate on which you served hummus? Thank you in advance. Love your videos
Looking forward to trying this
That hummus looks so gorgeously silky! 😍
I can’t wait to try this! 🙌
You can always scale the recipe back to work for you? I enjoy hummus with pita chips and on wraps
I NEEDED THIS!! I wish we could buy them not with the peel on them
I've made your recipe 3 times al ready . It is hands down the best hummus I have ever tried. Yes peel all the chickpeas!!!!! I swear it is worth the annoyance haha
This is blessed. I developed a very severe allergy to lemon and my local grocery stores don’t carry a hummus without lemon in it. (Except Sabra brand but that hummus is gross and grainy) I just haven’t found a recipe that I thought was great but I think this one might be it. I’m trusting u on this one! 😂 I’ll just leave out the lemon.
Oh wow, having an allergy to lemons must suck; i'm sorry! :(
Can you have limes?
Ella L. Oddly enough I can 😂 human body is weird .
@@coreyjacq Then use lime instead of lemon juice :)
It's strange that there must be something in 🍋 that causes a allergy but that something doesn't occur in Limes. There maybe others who have an allergy to Limes but not Lemons.
David Mcgregor I’m also deadly allergic to mango. There is something in both their skins that is like poison ivy. Some people aren’t affected , some just get a rash, I die lol
I learned today that you have to let it naturally release for like 10 min per the written recipe. The video doesn’t tell you that, and the chick peas will explode and come out the vent in a mush. Still tasted great though!
what container do you store this in? how long will it last?
I used Gaz Oakley hummus recipe which is thyme and paprika hummus and then I ran out Thyme so it because Rosemary and paprika hummus.
Thank you for your expertise! :D
Wow! Hummus has never been so fine.
Excellent recipe's for hummus. I haven't eaten hummus for a while but I will definitely do this once I get a new food processor. Will canned chickpeas work for doing it quickly?
The texture is great but what about spices?
Brilliant! I will try, thanks!
Loved it, amazing. Thank you.
Hello how're you doing.?
I use hummus instead of mayo. So much tastier and healthier. Cheaper too when you buy the dry peas which is like 1 dollar a pound where I live.
Get tahini from arabic stores it taste so much better than the ones that you buy onling
Me sitting here thinking I need to make more hummus with 3 tubs currently in my fridge! I totally agree homemade is 100000x better but....I am such a lazy butt sometimes ugh!
Looks so delicious :) How long does it keep for?
This was so helpful!!!
Can’t wait to try this hummus 🤤🤤🤤🤤
