Thanks for making a video of Ed, I’ve been reading about him in hot rod magazines since I was a kid. I think his shop is way more important than the Olympics.
So my first drag race I attended (I was 14 years old) was a funny car meet at Connecticut dragway in 1978. One of my favorite pictures I took while I was there was of a HEMI valve cover in a funny car with the Ed Pink logo on the valve cover. I felt honored that I actually was in the presence of an actual Ed Pink engine! This video was a fantastic in that I was able to see the shop an the man who has been a legend to me for more than 40 years. It is a crime that that facility is being sacrificed for the Olympics. I have the same welder in my shop! Mine is a Chemetron, which bought the P&H business and still sold welders under the P&H brand.

Thank you Mitchell and Logan for recording this for infamy you two are the best. Long live Ed Pink the sharpest 92 year old man I'm aware of...

One word Amazing. One more word sad. Amazing history and very sad it’s going away. Really appreciate you capturing this so it can be remembered when it’s gone.
So glade you are documenting all these legends in the automotive industry. Ed Pink is such a icon in the racing industry everyone knows who or has heard of him. I've actually had the honor years ago tho to meet this legend. Coolest and extremely knowledgeable man and wish there were more people like him in this industry. It's a shame that LA is doing what there doing to such a historic place amongst everything else historic they tear down. I say we all sigh a petition to help keep this legendary place alive and everyone's job's as well. But really enjoying yall going are and doing videos on these guy's that changed racing history.
Amazing interview of a very talented man. He's hearing everything perfectly without any hearing aids that I can see. Not many racing engineers left with a history like his.
That was cool I'm glad we got to see it before it's gone. You could see the sadness in his eys when you asked him how he wanted it to be remembered.I love the history keep up the good woork.
It's funny those old Battle Ship Gray machines I remember being in awe of (and the guys running them always measuring and fine tuning everything) when I was young and going into different shops and factories, now everything is white cabinets with glass doors run by computers.
Having been born in ‘64, my father being in the car business and my first car at 14 being a first gen Barracuda I’ve heard Ed Pink’s name all of my life. And I’m in the South East. Great upload, THANKS!
Ed Pink is a racing legend, sharp as man half his age. The racing legends made from the engines born there are historical. Superb video of a engine mastermind. It would be amazing to spend hours just listening to the life stories Ed could tell. Its a shame a building will be destroyed for something as insignificant as a bus station for a one off event that few care about.
So I have been blessed to have gone through Ed's shop back in 2002/2003 I don't exactly remember but Ed built our Ford USAC silver crown engines for us at Contos Racing and picture on the wall at the 2.44 mark is our victory at IRP with Jason McCord
This is incredible living in australia guys like ED Pink were mythical. You guys are so respectful to these incredible pioneers and documenting it for everyone. What about Ed Pink, how articulate is this legend. Did he say Pat Austin worked there ? He was my favourite racer and was the coolest guy in the NHRA other than Prudome Thankyou all for this privilege, I felt like I was there. Btw I don't think Ed is quite ready for retirement yet.
this is old history that guy was a legend in hi performance motors, I used to work in Van Nye's and saw his shop many times, you got a real treat going on tour there. The valley is full of history on tracks and hot rods. Enjoy
Thank you Ed Pink for all the excitement during the many years I’ve watched racing from drags to Laguna, early NASCAR to current. Your truly the best. Thank you again. Love the walk through of your business. You are real sharp today as you were years ago. God Bless you ED.
Ed reminds me of my grandfather who I just lost at 90. He was also a car guy but definitely not on the technical end like Ed. We are losing these guys that have a wealth of knowledge that will go with them. Ed’s legacy will always be alive long after he’s gone. Hopefully there will be someone to continue his work with his knowledge long after he’s gone. Hats off to you sir.
My hats off to you for asking the questions many wouldn't think of. His answers took very little pondering and he spoke with respect. I still have to watch the 427 SOHC build portion of this visit and I hope you're able to keep updating us on Ed.
OMG when I saw the title on this video I almost went and bought tickets out to Cali. I have a friend who lives near Huntingdon beach and I was going to offer my helping hand even though I am still recovering from getting run over by a ford F350 on my 1957 Harley Panhead. Ed is a Legend. I am so happy that even though it seems as if he is kind of retiring he is still so vibrant. What a wonderful man and family! Gob Bless you Ed and I hope to see you again in the not near future. You are and have been an inspiration to almost every kid who looked at a race car and got the bug.
I want to tell you Mitchell, thank you! And I mean a heart felt "thank you" ! For documenting these racers and race shops. It's history that otherwise would be lost.
What an amazing icon. He hasn't been part of the shop for yrs, yet can crack off the names of the current (and past) employees like he was there yesterday. I have trouble remembering what I had for lunch yesterday and I'm 30 yrs younger.
I remember bits and pieces about Ed Pink in the 80’s when I was a teenager. This is so sad. And all for a bus terminal that probably won’t last long I’m guessing. Thank you for sharing this footage.
This may be the most hallowed ground you'll step on.. Farewell, to become a parking lot for some dumb a** one time event, who's sole purpose is to line the pockets of politicians. It's unfortunate that Ed's generation has to see what this country has become. Thanks Ed, for all you've done.

You hit it right on the head. These politicians don’t give a dam about anything outside of making a name for themselves. When the Olympics is all over (2 weeks) they will be scrambling around wondering what to do with who’s huge wasted project. Sad.
A fascinating interview with an exceptional man, Ed is an absolute legend for sure. You have captured the man and his lifetimes work in a nice sympathetic way which makes this such an enjoyable viewing experience. Good work!
Great video. Thanks for sharing. I worked there in the 80’s just as a grunt/clean up guy and then when I got my drivers license ran parts. Lotta motorsport history has run through that shop.
I absolutely love your in-depth interviews/videos of what i consider hallowed ground of racing; Petty Enterprises and now, Ed Pink's facility. Simply outstanding! As a kid, I was buying Popular Hot Rodding, Car Craft, Hot Rod and followed drag racing from afar. Took to liking the Don Schumacher Stardust 1970 Cuda FC; just a beautifully built and detailed funny car, powered by Ed's hemi's. The top drag racers either ran Keith Black power or Ed Pink power. For me, Ed is a big part of our greatest generation of drag racing heroes and this interview shows he's still completely on top of his game. What an engineering talent, from building the power that won the NHRA US Nationals to providing the engines for the fastest cars on the road today, in 2022. Long may Ed run!
l would give anything to go through those boxes in that storage room . that building should be on the historic registry list . There isn't many places like that still standing and they are where magic happened . another great video . thanks .
Absolutely perfect ending. Thanks for capturing this before they have to move the shop. It will never be the same. All that history in a clean shiny vanilla box, what a tragedy. As everyone else has said he's still sharp as a tack. Thanks Ed.
Awesome once again Mitchell and Logan. What the city should do at the very least is mark Ed's shop with a damn big brass plate to celebrate what was achieved here so it will be always remembered and celebrated.
This a great video about Ed Pink and his shop. Very glad that you have documented his contribution to racing history. I must add that Ed has a phenomenal memory. I was worried that you were asking to many questions, but his memory is much sharper than mine at 67 years young.
I've always been a car guy. Growing up in the 70s, if you were lucky enough to get a motor built by Ed back then nobody would race you because they already knew that they were going to lose. Absolutely a v8 building GOD!!! One of the best engine builders ever!!!
Absolutely great video, one of my childhood memories of drag racing was seeing Ed Pink engines decals. And is mentally sharp for being 92 years young. We need to take time to visit and take heed to the originators of our racing history before their no longer with us.
What an incredible trip down racing past. Love the fact that Ed is still active...which is likely how he stays so sharp. You can, understandably, see the sadness in his eyes over having to close/relocate an absolute iconic shop such as his. God bless Ed Pink and thank you for this video. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍!!!!!!!
Ok now the 2 of you have absolutely shown off and shown a race shot like no other in the world. Just lucky and privileged and you better be proud for this will most likely never happen again! At least for that awesome piece of history. Very good job!
WOW! We could employ all the adjectives we can think of, but I think the exclamation of wow is quite fitting and comprehensive. Dam! This really effected me and I am not sure what can be done. I just became a bus hater. I hope the large corporates like Edelbrock, holley, summit racing need to get together and try to crush this bus station plan. Its just so wrong.
I"m glad you said it, all for a huge waste of money and political dog and pony show most people no longer care about and won't remember in less than a years time.
Yep no one will ride the busses 3 months after the games are over. This state and many more are run by......you fill in the blank.
edelbrock Holley and summit are in the crosshairs too. There’s nobody who can help this situation other than the masses. And the masses are asleep
Thanks for making a video of Ed, I’ve been reading about him in hot rod magazines since I was a kid. I think his shop is way more important than the Olympics.
This video was deep and just goes to show how “progress” will run over everything if we let it. Great work! Keep it up!
Thank you for another awesome piece of work. So so sad that it has to end this way. Some of the people that are in these political positions are just plain horrible people.
I bet he got paid pretty well for that property.
@@SophiaAphrodite based on what? How do you know? You don’t know anything kid!
@@SophiaAphrodite eminent domain destroys people. They don't pay anywhere close to what property is worth. And the Olympics will be a joke like in every other county and this spot will turn into a waste land shortly after
Ed Pink got paid when sold the business to Tom Malloy in 2008. He is a consultant to the company now.
Brought tears to my my eyes when Ed wrapped the video. And this is the second time I've watched it. Came here again after watching his sons video. I'll remember these videos forever dude thanks!
So impressive and Ed knew everybody there. He said it best that it's "hallowed grounds". Yet another awesome video. P.S. saying wow all the time is the only thing to say when your looking at greatness.
WOW !!!---- YOU KILLED IT AGAIN !!! Who else in the past 20 years has done such a wonderful interview of this awesome man as you have done. Fantastic !!!
Thanks man
No one has in the last 20 years for sure. Stapleton is the shit. He nailed this vid.
Yup, when I was a teenager all the top fuelers and funnies used Ed Pink and Keith Blacks. Dudes a legend. Awesome to see him. You just got a new sub.
Thank you sir. Welcome to the team
I grew up in the LA/Orange County area with a bifrucated family, part law enforcement part street racers and growing up in the 70's Ed Pink was a living legend along with Keith Black, his shop and him are way more important and will be legendary long after the Olympics will ever be, it is a travesty what California is doing and turning his shop as well as all the other establishments in the area into friggin bus stops is just a horrible waste.
Thank you Mitchell and Logan for recording this for infamy you two are the best.
Long live Ed Pink the sharpest 92 year old man I'm aware of...
I’m from Australia- & i 100% agree. A travesty. Ed’s shop is planetary scale heritage.
Excellent video. You have done your part to preserve. Thanks to Mr. Pink for opening up the shop for a tour.
It is incredible to see and hear a legend like Ed Pink!!!
Mr. Lake is AWESOME! Thank You for more Great history...
What a time capsule and an absolute gentleman. Ed Pink we salute you. Thank you for your 60 years history tour. Its so sad that it will be all lost to a bus shelter Truly Shameful !
He said it best that it is hallowed grounds of 1 of the best engine shops in the World .Love from Australia 🦘🦘
Heartbreaking Thank you for saving a small chunk of history.
Killing again guys! Saturday afternoon taking a break from work and watching something so historical and moving! Great job 👏
Thank you Mitchell!
One of the most. Historical places yet thanks for doing this one
Amazing interview of a very talented man. He's hearing everything perfectly without any hearing aids that I can see. Not many racing engineers left with a history like his.
my dad did Ed's engine balancing for years. Helped with the design of the Infiniti crankshaft for the IRL engines
Pure gold. What an amazing man. Hats off to Ed Pink.
Just wow! A true legend. This one should be shared and preserved for future generation!
That was cool I'm glad we got to see it before it's gone. You could see the sadness in his eys when you asked him how he wanted it to be remembered.I love the history keep up the good woork.
It's not every day that the "Old Master" gives an interview, and it's a shame for His shop's plight.
Thank You SO much for this one..
That’s a shop that needs to preserve for our youth, those machines would look foreign to kids today
Thankfully the machines and business will be moved to a different building. It isn't the end of EPRE just this building.
@@Stapleton42 Any compensation for relocation?
@@nitsudocsicnarf347 i sure hope there is.
@@nitsudocsicnarf347 pennies on the $100
It's funny those old Battle Ship Gray machines I remember being in awe of (and the guys running them always measuring and fine tuning everything) when I was young and going into different shops and factories, now everything is white cabinets with glass doors run by computers.
Well said!
And after the Olympics, it will become a homeless encampment. Furiating.
He was my favourite racer and was the coolest guy in the NHRA other than Prudome
Thankyou all for this privilege, I felt like I was there. Btw I don't think Ed is quite ready for retirement yet.
He said Pat Foster, whose son Cole runs Salinas Boyz Customs and is also an outstanding fabricator.
True re Skippies. +So sharp Ed was correcting these dudes 😅😉see 33:10
this is old history that guy was a legend in hi performance motors, I used to work in Van Nye's and saw his shop many times, you got a real treat going on tour there. The valley is full of history on tracks and hot rods. Enjoy
This shop and the people who work in it deserve a feature length documentary.
Yes
The last couple minutes really caught me in the feels !!!
Thank you Ed Pink for all the excitement during the many years I’ve watched racing from drags to Laguna, early NASCAR to current. Your truly the best. Thank you again. Love the walk through of your business. You are real sharp today as you were years ago. God Bless you ED.
92 year old genius and obviously still sharp as a tack. Damn awesome!
This is a true gem Thank you so much for capturing this and also the WAY you did it. I only wish that someone had done this at Smokey Yunick's shop.
A real honest legend!!! You guys are doing a great job with the show !!
Thank you Willy!
My hats off to you for asking the questions many wouldn't think of. His answers took very little pondering and he spoke with respect. I still have to watch the 427 SOHC build portion of this visit and I hope you're able to keep updating us on Ed.
there will be more ed videos!
What a story and it will be a damn shame once the shop is gone, so much history will be gone forever! Ed is in amazing shape for his age!!!!!
Haven't posted my comment yet, but yes I agree what waste of Historic sight, forcing to move for event that just Slush of Fraud waste of money to exploit athletes for Profit. that might get chance to get shiny Medal.
Hell I didn’t even know the Olympics was still a thing
You hit it right on the head. These politicians don’t give a dam about anything outside of making a name for themselves. When the Olympics is all over (2 weeks) they will be scrambling around wondering what to do with who’s huge wasted project. Sad.
@@54raceman Billions are made from it. So yes, its still very much a thing.
Without a doubt, and pinks name will be at the top of the engine building history. Thank you for the video.
A fascinating interview with an exceptional man, Ed is an absolute legend for sure. You have captured the man and his lifetimes work in a nice sympathetic way which makes this such an enjoyable viewing experience. Good work!
Oh my , a living legend.......so wonderful. Thanks so much for this video.
Incredible. And what these episodes represent are accomplishments that all happened in my lifetime. Inovators
Thanks Bill. It’s really inspiring
Mr. Pink is on Point !
Man I hope I could live that long and be as sharp .
Excellent job Mitchell
Incredible Man. Thank you for putting this video together and sharing it with the world. Bravo, well done.
Great video. Thanks for sharing. I worked there in the 80’s just as a grunt/clean up guy and then when I got my drivers license ran parts. Lotta motorsport history has run through that shop.
Proof that hard work keeps you alive. Another cool video, thanks.
Well said Michael. We appreciate having you here.
@@Stapleton42 Thank you!
We should all have the pleasure the talking to folks like Ed. Man we could learn so much about life and perspective. Thank you so much!
Thanks for being here Todd we appreciate you 💪🏻
Just the different blocks lying around blew my mind. Great job as always interlacing historic pics.
Same! Thank you Rick!
Ed Is one of the best! I’ve been in that building a dozen times through the years! Cool video
l would give anything to go through those boxes in that storage room . that building should be on the historic registry list . There isn't many places like that still standing and they are where magic happened . another great video . thanks .
I met the man at a SEMA show almost 2 decades ago. Ed looks Great !!! He is without a doubt a legend.
Absolutely perfect ending. Thanks for capturing this before they have to move the shop. It will never be the same. All that history in a clean shiny vanilla box, what a tragedy. As everyone else has said he's still sharp as a tack. Thanks Ed.
Never knew Ed Pink made engines for so many forms of racing. Thanks Logan and Mitchell
Maybe sniffing nitromethane is a cure for old age dimentia 😂
You’re welcome sir
Ok now the 2 of you have absolutely shown off and shown a race shot like no other in the world. Just lucky and privileged and you better be proud for this will most likely never happen again! At least for that awesome piece of history. Very good job!
WOW! We could employ all the adjectives we can think of, but I think the exclamation of wow is quite fitting and comprehensive. Seriously, Ed embodies the phrase salt of the earth in relation to racing-he and others like him added all of the flavor behind the scenes which inspired many to embark upon the journey of racing. Cheers to fantastic entrepreneurs!
Great video ! Thanks for taking the time to interview Ed and his facility. He is one of Motorsports living legends! It's great to that Mr Pink is still so articulate n sharp as a tack .Thank you Ed Pink for your genius mind which has brought some of the most competitive ideas and .odors to all classes of Motorsports .God Bless you sir !
What an absolute legend! Long live Ed Pink
Had 4 Pink engines in my AA/FC 1973 -1985 . Good to see Ed again.
Ed Pink, the Holy Grail of racing engines! I'm truly enjoying your videos visiting the aftermarket industry, I watch one to the very end. I had to leave the motor building biz in 99 due to health issues. The technology has changed so much since that time. Keep up the good work !
The history you guys are capturing with these videos is amazing.
Thank you so much Shelton!
Sad they got to move so much history, been here from 1965, Sad days😥 love the 90 yr old guy so cool and sharp, we wish them well in relocating WOW big job
