I just wish more younger kids nowadays would just watch the last few minutes of this video and understand about history. Me too. He was such a clean driver. You didn't see him upset often, if you did it was serious. Mark was a racer that was a role model for his followers.
Education always has a cost, back in the day it cost you your childhood sometimes a bit early... but Manhood waits for no child. Respect for a Man teaching what a kid Needs to know early, not enough of that going on these days...
Wow, Mark Martin went into a Thousand Yard Stare of Retrospection, and you had the presence of mind to keep the camera on him and be quiet. That was a golden moment right there. Well done Mitchell.
WOW. TY Mitchell and Mark. Thanks for sharing Mark. Setting aside your legendary career we got to meet a great guy, a man. Mark, it seems you also reminded yourself of your roots. This was great for me too. Thanks.
I was around 16 or 17 when I met Mark at a signing many many years ago. First thing that struck me was that despite not being very tall, I could feel how damn strong the guy was just from his handshake. It wasn’t one of those grips where you can tell the person is trying to clamp down to impress you. Dude just genuinely had vice grips for hands. Second was how he took the time to spend a moment to actually talk to everyone, even if only for a few seconds. Just a genuine, approachable human being.
Growing up my dad raced at Summerville Speedway in S.C. around 76-77 I was 6-7 years old. I raced in the 93-96. Every Saturday night after the races was over we went to Shoney's. The track owner's dad had the Shoney's Big Boy after they like retired him. When Mark said they went to Shoney's after the races...I said man that brought back so many memories. Mark is an awesome person. Keep up the great videos. I wish he still hasn't his Dillion ASA car I always thought that was a bad ass car.
Again you have managed to bring an awesome video with one of the absolute most awesome man in nascar, it was like a therapy lesson for Mark. A scrawny kid from Pennsylvania scores one of the greatest interviews of all time. Congratulations Mitchell it was fascinating.
Stapleton you are one lucky guy to get to interview Mark. Mark THANK YOU so much for telling us your story.I hope the young people would all see this interview. By the way my first business at age 14 was a pop machine at my parents motel. I had to fill it two times a day. I thought I was raking in the dough. It definitely started my hunger of entrepreneurship.
I don't have to tell you how lucky you are man. I just really appreciate you and Mark sharing the experience w/us all. So cool to know the history from the Man himself.

The way he likes to tells these story’s and how he likes to share his memories you’d think this kinda thing is a common occurrence for him, but it’s not. Just a man of a dying breed & generation reminiscing on what he loves and has loved so much. Glad you took the time to do these videos man. Mark knows you have a love for the history of racing. It was a whole different world back then. What I would give to live in that day and time. Mad respect to you Staples. Just the fact that you are riding around with mark Martin is freaking amazing who would ever thought that your RUclips channel would lead to that you know what I'm saying fucking amazing
Thank you for sharing this! My uncle was the biggest Mark Martin fan! I remember him telling me multiple times. “Kid if you chose Mark as a role model you could definitely do a lot worse!” Of course he meant that Mark was a helluva role model both on and off the track! He would have loved to have seen this!
Wow I learned so much from my dad just like Mark did from his, but exactly I saw his temper and I just learned and did not want that temper. but all the other great things about him. Dad passed June 7 2021 gosh I so so miss that man and all his knowledge. Thanks Mark and Stapleton for bringing back some good memories for me. Mark is 6 yrs older than me I am still busting my ass doing carpentry work you just gave me some more strength to keep it going!
I grew up in Arkansas and was just a kid when Mark was starting his racing career at the dirt tracks. We would go watch my Uncle Billy Hattabaugh's race car compete at the tracks in Wynne, AR and Benton, AR. He was the owner/builder and Larry Carson was the driver of the #25 White Lightening car that gained fame from a scene in the Burt Reynolds Movie "White Lightening" . (still my favorite movie). Even years later, I remember being at the dirt track races in Beebe, AR and seeing Mark Martin's tow rig and trailer pull in to the pits. I think Mark was already racing NASCAR at that point, but we all thought that he had come back to his roots to win a little dirt track race. Turned out he had loaned a car to a local driver who's car was busted. I'll never forget seeing that hauler roll into the Pitts. It was so exciting for a brief moment to think he was there!
Mark Martin is a wealth of race car and life knowledge. I can still remember watching a race when I was younger where he lost his rear bumper and dominated the competition because of it. Nobody could touch him during that race, he was flyin!!

I like how you are riding with Mark Martin then pass in the background mark Martin powersports.
Mark I bet could still wheel a race car now if he wanted to but he gave us 40 years of memories - He’s like BP was had tons of stories to tell to people 🏁🏁🏁
Absolutely. I bet he could still win races 😂
Put him in Larson car, most definitely would win..
@@aaronjones5372lol I love how everyone is so butt hurt
Awesome ride along, thank yous for your time and effort to interview Martin, it was great to watch, all the best to yous and your loved ones
Mark Martin was my idol for so many years. This is some of the best content I have seen on RUclips. He is a legend in my eyes. Now I realize his dad is also a legend.
These two Mark videos are the perfect accompaniment to Marks podcast series
These Visits are Gold!
Thanks.
Thanks Dan we appreciate you!
Mark seems like such a nice guy
He really is
Growing up my dad raced at Summerville Speedway in S.C. around 76-77 I was 6-7 years old.
I remember Mark racing at Capital Speedway in Wisconsin, battling Dick Trickel, Joe Ruttmen. Thoughs were the years.
How freaking cool is Mark Martin. So much depth and feeling In the places and memories. Got in my feels.
Been thinking about it after watching this video yesterday
Mark Martin is favorite driver forever now.
Again you have managed to bring an awesome video with one of the absolute most awesome man in nascar, it was like a therapy lesson for Mark. A scrawny kid from Pennsylvania scores one of the greatest interviews of all time.
Congratulations Mitchell it was fascinating.
Thanks. Wanna arm wrestle?
@@Stapleton42 ROFLMAO 😂
Stapleton you are one lucky guy to get to interview Mark. Mark THANK YOU so much for telling us your story.I hope the young people would all see this interview. By the way my first business at age 14 was a pop machine at my parents motel. I had to fill it two times a day. I thought I was raking in the dough. It definitely started my hunger of entrepreneurship.
I don't have to tell you how lucky you are man. I just really appreciate you and Mark sharing the experience w/us all. So cool to know the history from the Man himself.
As an ex-addict of heroine, I can totally relate to learning from history... I'm 65 months sober from a 22+ year addiction...! So, never give up and learn from your history and history on general... If you don't, we are all destined to repeat all the mistakes from history...! I'm absolutely loving your channel, 70-90s is the best NASCAR Era...! Thanks and keep up your awesomeness and go enjoy some nature today...!
Good on you, I was on pills for a few years after breaking my back and that was awful getting off those. Can't imagine what quitting 22 years must have felt like.
You and I are probably the same age and we share the same love, interest, and respect for the history and the men who loved it. Keep it up.
Thanks man we will
OMG, you were able to get time with Mark Martin for a tour like this!!!!! Just incredible! I feel like I just spent a day with Mark Martin. Thank you so much for this. Love Mark Martin!
Even if it were just a Denali, I’d still get a kick out of mark martin taking me for a ride. You add in racing history, that’s a damn lifelong memory right there.
Mark Martin is one of the most modest celebrities that I know of . What a gentleman !! That’s one of the main reasons I have been a fan of his for over 3 decades !!!
Why can't I ever just end up on a historical road trip with a nascar legend?! This is great! Thank you Mark!
Just the fact that you are riding around with mark Martin is freaking amazing who would ever thought that your RUclips channel would lead to that you know what I'm saying fucking amazing
So cool to watch Mark go through all those old memories.
I could sit and listen to Mark tell stories all day lol.
Mark Martin will always be my favorite race car driver. An Absolute Legend.
One of the best videos if have ever watched. Mark Martin is one of the best.
Thanks man I’m glad you’re here
Thank you for sharing this! My uncle was the biggest Mark Martin fan! I remember him telling me multiple times. “Kid if you chose Mark as a role model you could definitely do a lot worse!” Of course he meant that Mark was a helluva role model both on and off the track! He would have loved to have seen this!
I have a cap from back when he was racing, I enjoyed that
You can tell Mark MISSES his dad! Just like I miss my dad only being gone for a year
Wow I learned so much from my dad just like Mark did from his, but exactly I saw his temper and I just learned and did not want that temper. but all the other great things about him. Dad passed June 7 2021 gosh I so so miss that man and all his knowledge. Thanks Mark and Stapleton for bringing back some good memories for me. Mark is 6 yrs older than me I am still busting my ass doing carpentry work you just gave me some more strength to keep it going!
Man I love to hear that. Keep grinding man 💪🏻
I will and thanks for the reply you made my night. Watching your Rusty Wallace video right now. Have a great weekend.
I love these stories about the older drivers my grandfather was a huge Mark Martin fan ty for all you are doing
Billy and Larry were a unbeatable combo.
Mark Martin is a wealth of race car and life knowledge. I can still remember watching a race when I was younger where he lost his rear bumper and dominated the competition because of it. Nobody could touch him during that race, he was flyin!!
Wow im not the same person I was after watching this video. U a mark r awsome #heartfeltmissmy DAD
Thanks for capturing some of Marks thoughts. It was a great treat to listen to him. Mark and Ricky Ruud were my two favorite Nascar drivers !
Amazing stories. So much entertainment and history. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!
I fet honored to have had Mark like a picture of my dually on the gram about 3 years ago. Look at this stuff! Soo cool.
Stories like this should be used to inspire today’s youth.

This is honestly one of the coolest things I've ever seen on RUclips. Y'all are so lucky to get to spend this time with Mark and get these stories first hand. Thank you and thanks Mark for being a true living legend!
Glad you’re here man
I'm so stoked that you and your wife are out doing these types of videos this history is so important to document before it's all gone. As a 35 year old watching most of ur vids takes me down memory lane. I grew up living so close to BMS aka Bristol Motor Speedway and I can relate to everything ur doing on this channel and one of the few other content creators I can sit n benge watch entire videos. Good stuff man. Keep putting in the work and we'll keep showing support here in Southwest - VA. Also you will most def be an icon urself in the Nascar community some day keep grinding and will keep watching.. 🤙🏻
It's so cool learning all the information Mark Martin has in his head. The fact that you were able to make the connection with him and him to share his stories directly with you is awesome a legend of the past talking to a legend of the future
I grew up playing a lot of baseball in batesville, ar. Marks dealership always had some badass mustangs on the lot
I've had the honor to meet Mark Martin. And got Mark's autograph a great guy. NASCAR Hall of famer 🏆🏁🇺🇸
As a huge Mark Fan, just turning 30 years old. I can put myself in your shoes during this video. Mark was always a hero to me. Listed as such on my MySpace account as a kid. I raced his numbers for years on my own race cars. 02 - 5 - 6 - 16 - and others. Love that old man like a grandfather. This was a huge video for me personally, and mentally as Mark is so full of humble wisdom.
