    Great Maiden song.
“he song documents the colonization of the Americas, first by Europeans and then by Americans, from the perspective of a Cree Indian and American cavalryman. The opening verse is from the perspective of the Cree, describing his troubles as the European Americans "came across the sea", bringing the Cree "pain and misery".[6][7] The song is written from both perspectives,[8] The second verse is from the perspective of a U.S. cavalry soldier, describing his involvement in the American Indian Wars, "chasing the redskins back to their holes". The third verse is not from the perspective of any single individual, and harshly condemns the effects of American expansionism on Native Americans, resulting in the "[Americans] raping the women and wasting the men", and "enslaving the young and destroying the old”

Actually there's a lot of fictional drama.... Here are the facts:
      1. There were only several million tribal people in America
      2. Disease came ahead of Europeans(just as the black death came from rats that moved north ahead of traders)
      3. The land was wide open, with no one claiming it except for the purposes of migrating with animal herds
      4. After contact with Europeans, the tribes population grew through trade
      5. Tribes engaged in skirmishes along the frontier just as they did with EACH OTHER (taking slaves, KILLING, RAPING and burning homes)
      6. Every once in a while these skirmishes would lead to outright battles where the Europeans almost always won
      7. Colonists continued to spread out and take more open land, again unclaimed except for following herds
      8. After prolonged exposure, peaceful tribes started to mix with European settlements, leaving the tribes for towns
      9. Tribes and Europeans mixed so much that US whites now have on average about 3% tribal DNA.
And lastly, the remaining tribes were pushed out of their migratory patterns by the USG. Earlier, land was purchased from the chiefs and they moved willingly but the remaining tribes were wrongly resettled. But this doesn't constitute genocide. The truth is, Europeans were more than fair with the natives for the most part. They didn't conquer them, they didn't slaughter them, they integrated with the superior society that had more wealth and freedom. There were a few examples of evil behavior from the Europeans but for the most part it was beneficial to the tribes.

One suggestion, when you're doing Iron Maiden, try to find live versions, they're one of those rare bands that tend to be better live than studio. I've seen several requests for the song Hallowed Be Thy Name off this same album - look for the video clip from Hammersmith 1982, it might be old, but it's epic!
And definitely look up the lyrics, Maiden is a band whose songs tend to have serious subjects. Run To The Hills is about the Native Americans being overwhelmed by the Americans during the westward expansion, for example, while Aces High is about the Battle of Britain during WWII from the perspective of an RAF fighter pilot. Hallowed Be Thy Name is the reflections of a prisoner awaiting execution.

    • @Snipergoat1
      @Snipergoat1 Год назад

That is a bloody lie. While they have a handful of exceptional live performances in general you are going to get a better sound from the studio recordings. Especially when it is a more recent show. Bruce Dickinson is an excellent singer who has take better care of his voice than most but age still has it's evil way on his top end and sustain. Pretty much I look for the mullet. If Bruce is still rocking the mullet, he still brings the fireworks. After that he is still good but it won't be up to his old standards.

Only books of Bruce's that I'm aware of are The Adventures of Lord Iffy Boatrace, its sequel The Missionary Position, and his autobiography What Does This Button Do? so if you've got a link to a children's book, I'd love to see it.

He took our game for his own need
We fought him hard, we fought him well
Out on the plains we gave him hell
But many came, too much for Cree
Oh, will we ever be set free?
Riding through dust clouds and barren wastes
    Galloping hard on the plains
Chasing the redskins back to their holes
Fighting them at their own game
Murder for freedom the stab in the back
Women and children are cowards, attack
    Run to the hills
    Run for your lives
    Run to the hills
    Run for your lives
Soldier blue in the barren wastes
    Hunting and killing's a game
Raping the women and wasting the men
The only good Indians are tame
Selling them whiskey and taking their gold
Enslaving the young and destroying the old
    Run to the hills
    Run for your lives
    Run to the hills
    Run for your lives
    Yeah
    Ah, ah, ah, ah
    Run to the hills
    Run for your lives
    Run to the hills

This was an important single for Iron Maiden in 1982... they already had 2 albums out recorded w/ original singer Paul Di'Anno and were touring worldwide when it was apparent that Di'Anno couldn't handle the touring... so they let him go in 1981...
Going into 1982, Iron Maiden hired singer Bruce Dickinson and recorded the 3rd album 'The number of the beast'... They needed to introduce a new singer to their fans... so they chose to release 'Run to the hills' first to introduce Bruce Dickinson as the new lead singer of Iron Maiden.
Thankfully, the time was right and the single was a hit... the album went #1 on the UK charts and sold platinum in the US. Iron Maiden had arrived🤘🤘🔥

I really suggest a reaction to this one, as it is their signature song. This was vocalist Bruce Dickinson's 1st album with the band. He is famous as a great front man and has a rare mix of both vocal operatic power and range.

One of my uncles did a deep dive into the german, english, irish, french, dutch, scottish family and supposedly one of the french guys impregnated an indian and I don't know what tribe. He investigated as hard as he could and couldn't find out what tribe she was from but they lived in Louisiana area like New Orleans so maybe the tribe was close to there. I guess it was consensual. I HOPE it was consensual. I don't know how unusual it is for a white guy to do that consensually when that happened before the 20th century. Anyways this song is awesome regardless of all that!

Iron Maiden...the best of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal. The official video would have helped to grasp the concept of the song. Alternatively, follow the lyrics. Metal songs usually have a deep meaning and they travel at a fast tempo, so you'll need to keep up😁 Great reaction as always👍

Bruce Dickinson was originally an opera singer and the zombie mascot thing's name is Eddie, he has a history but I don't know it.
Check out Power Slave, it's about the exodus of Egypt.

It stuns me how there are still many who actually think there are "two perspectives" to the song: one from the Natives and one from the White man.
The song CLEARLY and totally describes all the horrors done to native Americans since Plymouth Company (or soon after) to the Plains Wars.
The perspective may be from two points of views, but those are as if a Native is singing the song and the other as if a native is narrating the horrors, but there is no other side.

Not only is this song historic in its tale, the chorus was also my ringtone for my ex-wife for years. Always good when a song can serve so many strong purposes.

This song is told from the perspectives of the whites and the Indians during the colonization of the western frontier. By the way, you’re right, the art is awesome. They have, imo, the best album cover art. Fun fact: the mummy’s name is Eddy.

My older brother's high school English class analyzed Run to the Hills in 1984...The song talks about the white man taking North American from the Native Americans. The first verse gives the Natives point of view & the next verse gives the white man's point of view...Either way, you may want to run to the hills!

Yeah, imagine an 8’ wall of amps across the stage and these guys blasting at you for 2 1/2 hours straight. A MAIDEN concert was NOT for the weak. It was a hellava thing, these concerts. I was there. 18 times live. Number of the Beast and 2 Minutes to Midnight are both very strong songs. This whole time in Rock history will never happen again. I’ve seen a LOT of bands a LOT of times. Remember my name, I don’t fuck around when it comes to this music.
This is my world. JUDAS PREIST: Riding On The Wind! Studio version only please. I personally guarantee this song. It’s a Classic, Hard Rock, energy blast that you’ve never experienced before. They were THE premier Heavy, Hard Rock band and that status was never openly challenged. Some of the very best to ever do it and this one song is a great example of what they are at their best.
This is what the volume control is for.
I fucking dare you to trust me and enjoy a badass, slammin, classic Heavy Metal song. Again, I don’t fuck around with inferior music and I personally guarantee this song. Do it.

There is actually three perspectives to the lyrics. First from the Cree's point of view (White man came across the sea), then from the soldiers and settlers (Riding through dust clouds and barren wastes) and the third perspective is of the ruling class (Selling them whiskey and taking their gold
Enslaving the young and destroying the old). Even thought Steve Harris has the writing credit for this song the lyrics have a strong Bruce Dickinson (Bruce has a history degree) feeling to them, and considering that this was Bruce's first album he wasn't giving writing credits. Iron Maiden at the time didn't give writing credits on a new member's first album with the band.
