How great the Everly Brothers were. It’s just such a shame that their new songs weren’t given the right exposure at the time. As already said Jeff Lynn played a very important part in reviving the Everly’s. I don’t believe we will ever see their type again, so polished as Artists and they could sing as one voice! We salute you both, the world is a colder and less musical place since your passing.
Thanks to Jeff Lynne for producing (writing) and reviving the great Everly Brothers...From 1972 to 1986 Jeff Lynne's Electric Light Orchestra has had more top 40 hits than any other groups in the world. 50 years later they still play in sold out Arenas and Stadiums. I just saw them in Toronto July 18 2019 ( Best Concert of my life). At 73 Jeff Lynne's voice is still awesome. I really hope they will Tour again in 2022 for the 52nd anniversary of Jeff Lynne's Electric Light Orchestra.
@@wizmos74 This song was produced by Dave and Jeff Lynne. plus…The track was recorded with Jeff on bass guitar and Richard Tandy on keyboards. The Everly Brothers Rescue me before my dreams have flown away Rescue me, take me back with you again The lonely hours I wait for dawn's caress I can't forget the silence of the loneliness Destiny, I wrote the book about the game Destiny, now I've learned how to take the pain Try as I may I can't explain the way I'm feeling now Try as I may I can't explain And now I'm walking right back to you And all along I never really knew That there was heartbreak ahead And everyone but I could see That's the story of me Don't look back to think about the things we did Don't look back to pretend that's how it might have been I'm walking homeward through the shadows of the night again So now the story can be told And now I'm walking right back to you And all along I never really knew That there was sorrow to come And I thought there'd be ecstasy That's the story of me And now I'm walking right back to you And all along I never really knew That it's so easy to see that's how it's meant to be And that's the story of me, story of me That's the story of me
I adored the wonderful Everly Brothers throughout my 'teens and they have lost nothing in their power for me when it comes to songs that are deceptively simple in melody yet so meaningful in lyrics. There are so,so,so many more than their "hits" that are absolutely wonderful; this is merely one. To think they had none of the modern technology that exists now in producing some of today's lovely music.....back then, along with other true "greats"..they simply didn't need it.
First time I heard this album I was breaking a fever at an early age. I knew who the Everly Brothers were already. But listening to this album all these years later, made me realize that in the end its time to leave never never land behind and to grow up. As much as I don't want to.....

I remember thinking how new'-n'-now the electronics sounded when this came out. Still love the arrangement - it sounds completely of its time. but not in a way that makes you want to bury your head in a pile of cushions.
Great song ... horribly dated production. Wonder if the production style was forced on them by the record company, or if they opted for it as a way to make them seem more relevant to the time. Would have been so much better with them playing with clean and simple production playing their acoustic guitars.
This had nothing to do with the production company, the wante to modernize their sound, and the producer Dave Edmunds helped them. They chose all the musicians themselves and could do whatever they want. I find the sound fits perfectly. Same as Jeff Lynn did with Roy Orbison in the 80s, Roy really liked it.
UNDERRATED SONG

True to life lyrics beautifully sung by the greatest Everly Brothers
From the first studio album after their reunion. Very special and great album produced by Dave Edmunds.
My favorite of the Everly's songs. RIP Phil.

The Everly Brothers
Rescue me before my dreams have flown away
Rescue me, take me back with you again
The lonely hours I wait for dawn's caress
I can't forget the silence of the loneliness
Destiny, I wrote the book about the game
Destiny, now I've learned how to take the pain
Try as I may I can't explain the way I'm feeling now
Try as I may I can't explain
And now I'm walking right back to you
And all along I never really knew
That there was heartbreak ahead
And everyone but I could see
That's the story of me
Don't look back to think about the things we did
Don't look back to pretend that's how it might have been
I'm walking homeward through the shadows of the night again
So now the story can be told
And now I'm walking right back to you
And all along I never really knew
That there was sorrow to come
And I thought there'd be ecstasy
That's the story of me
And now I'm walking right back to you
And all along I never really knew
That it's so easy to see that's how it's meant to be
And that's the story of me, story of me
That's the story of me

Another gem by my favorite singers, Don and Phil, that should have been a hit in the 80s. Love all of EB84 album....should be on the radio every day.

Why EB84 album is not on Spotify?
Because they haven´t been re-released, Born Yesterday (1985) and Some Hearts (1988) aren´t on Spotify either!
