Tired of the brake dust on your C8 Corvette with the Z51 package. I tried these pads out and I am happy with the results so far.

A few years ago I bought some brake pads that caused less brake dust. Worked great. I autox'd my Corvettes and one Saturday part of the event was to finally stop in what they call a "stop box". I got to the finals and this time, when I tried to stop in the "stop box" I drove through it do to the "dustless brakepads". Knocked over a coupe of cones and I was disqualified. My caution is that the factory pads will stop you better than a dustless pad.
I have a mustang with the performance pack and it has the 6 piston brembos on the front and the brake dust was horrible. The solution I found was to use meguiars spray on wax. You basically just spray on the wheels and wipe off and it kept the brake dust in check and really helps
Im glad i found your Video, i was just about to buy Paragon Pads... you saved me a few coins... Thanks... My 2023 C8 will be happy.
Glad it helped you out!
Best video I have seen on changing pads. My powerstops come in this week and this video is exactly what I needed. Hopefully it cuts the brake dust on my z51
Thank you, the Powerstop pads made a huge difference with cutting down the brake dust.
Very informative step by step video. Thanks about to change out my pads and rotors on my c8 💯
Thanks for watching!
Hey hey good to see ya back, it’s been a while. I’ve heard good things about power stop pads.
Thanks man, took a little break.
thanks for the video. i also love your wheels man!
Thank you, I appreciate it!
Great video.Thank you very much
Thanks for watching!
Just installed today on my C8. Great video!
Awesome! There will be much less brake dust for you now.
@@eight16garage i wish I would have done this 15,000 miles ago.
@@mboydatlanta1 Haha, yep! The brake dust from the factory pads is so bad.
Good information
They are great. I had them on my Hellcat and my C7Z06...
Yes! They make a huge difference.
Is brake dust magnetic? Just had a thought if you can put big magnets by the caliper to pick up dust.
I have PowerStop Z23 series on my C7. Operate nicely.
Yeah I'm happy with them so far. Best part is they don't generate much brake dust at all.
Full Carbon, ceramic brakes on the way to go. Expensive option but worth it.
Strange as it sounds, on most cars I've owned, I've found that windshield wiper fluid works really well to remove brake dust.
The problem is the factory pads put off so much brake dust that the wheels constantly need to be cleaned or they look really bad. Nobody wants to have to wipe down the wheels after every drive. Changing the pads and ceramic coating the wheels is the best option to not have to constantly clean them.
Does this also help with brakes squealing? Got Z51 brakes and at low speeds sometimes they squeal pretty bad 💀 was thinking it was someone next to me 😂 what have learned so far is performance brakes need to be driven hard & kept hot is this true? Or is my car faulty?
I doubt your car is faulty. Performance brakes do have different characteristics than normal everyday brakes. I have heard others saying the same thing about their Z51 brakes squealing. I have also seen that dealers have lubricated the pads and that has helped. These Powerstop pads have been on my car for over 4000 miles and do not squeak at all. My stock pads did not squeak either, but they were only on the car a short time. I just couldn't deal with the amount of brake dust the stock brake pads put off.
Is there not something with disconnecting battery when changing out the pads?
GM recommends disconnecting the battery to prevent the possible inadvertent activation of the eBoost hydraulic pump. I did not and did not have any problems.
Do You have to disconnect the battery before changing out the pads?
GM recommends disconnecting the battery to prevent the possible inadvertent activation of the eBoost hydraulic pump.
Will these pads work with non Z51 C8's?
These specific part numbers will not. Powerstop has Z16, Z23 and Z26 pads specifically for base C8's. I would recommend checking out Paragonperf.com. Look under the C8 dropdown and go to the brakes section then pads. They clearly list which pads are for base models and Z51 models. Also check out the give away info in the description. It's free to enter.
I just changed my Pads this week and forgot to disconnect the battery. After turning on my car I got the Brake System Failure message as long as the ESC system. The car now is limiting me to 43 Miles per hours. The installation went smoothly, with the exception that I forgot to remove the battery. Now I have to take it to the dealership as I was not able to clear the error codes.
Should be an easy fix, hope they get it fixed up for you quick. I didn't disconnect my battery when doing this and had no issues. With all the electronics now in these cars I imagine some will get an error code with the slightest change. From the Corvette forums: To reset the brake warning, with foot off the brake pedal, push the start button and hold it in for 30 seconds or so. This effectively turns on all electrical systems without running the motor. Keeping the start button pressed, push down hard on the brake pedal and keep it down until the clicking stops. Trick was TO NOT HOLD start key in while pushing on brake pedal. All warnings went away, but the engine icon light is on. This may be worth trying.
I bought my 2017 zo6 after driving it home all but 6 miles I couldn’t believe the dust on the wheels. I put on the power stop the next day. My brakes came out with out take the caliber off took all 30 minutes to change them once the car was jack up. To this day I have no brake dust my caliber look just like new after 4yr wipe off about once a month with dry rag
Nice! The powerstops do a good job cutting down on the brake dust.
@@eight16garage For Real…
I bought new wheels and coated them with Cerakote...no appreciable brake dust
Will it fit c8 2022 z51? Why when click the link to Amazon is say not fit c8 2023. Help
2022 with Z51 should be the same as 2021 with Z51, IDK why it says it doesn't fit 2023, maybe because there are no 2023's out yet? Or maybe GM changed something that only them and Amazon know about.🤨
@@eight16garage sorry is say it won’t fit 2022 . Mine is 2022 c8. Z51 . Not 2023
@@phetdiamondc8802 Not sure why it's saying that. It's wrong, those are the pads you need for 20-22 C8's with Z51.
@@eight16garage ok thank
They work fine and with less dust but damn the screeching you get coming to a stop. I almost would rather have the break dust and I had mine installed.
I didn't get any kind of screeching or squeaking from my brakes after installation of the new pads. You may wanna have them looked at.
@@eight16garage dealer installed. Lol.
@@jasonthomas4589 Maybe just pull the pads out and make sure they're lubricated/greased properly. If you are sure they are lubricated and were bedded correctly try some hard 60 to 20 and 80 to 30 braking then drive around for a bit trying not to use the brakes and see if that helps.
@@jasonthomas4589 I know it'd be frustrating and annoying trying to fix one issue but then it causes another.
@@eight16garage I can do some small brakes and they will go away after 50 ft let's say but I park in the garage and the next morning it's back to doing the same thing. It's when it sits from me getting to work to leaving 12 hrs later here the screeching again.
Hey amazing video man, I have a stupid question... Do I buy 4 boxes? 2 for front and 2 for back....
Or do I buy 2 only (as in the front box will have pads for both front wheels) and same for back pads..
You’ll need 1 box for the front pads and 1 box for the rear. 2 boxes total should get you everything you need for the entire job.
@@eight16garagethank you sir, much obliged
What size rims are you running
19x9 in the front, 20x11.5 in the rear
@@eight16garage Do you have auto lift ? Mag drive ? I’m on a list to order probably won’t see it until December Just trying to get everything figured out ahead
@@fjb1012 No this car does not have front lift or mag ride.
@@eight16garage Did you put larger tires on the wider rims? If so, what size?
@@davidschnake4243 Nope, these are the factory Michelin's that came on the car.
I put them Our 19 Grand Sport, much less dust , but there is no such thing as “no dust”.
Are they available for 2024 stingray?
I imagine it's the same part number but I cannot confirm. I know manufacturers will change parts ever so slightly from time to time.
@@eight16garage I CALLED THE FACTORY AND THEY SAID IT WAS NOT AVAILABLE YET
@@ChrisSchnetzer I’m sure it won’t take long and they’ll be out with something that works.
put these pads on my c8, dusting is almost non existent. average street braking performance seems unaffected but THE SQUEALING IS OBNOXIOUS. They squeal super loud, ear-piercing at low speeds (parking lots, driveways, stop signs on side streets) unless you brake late and apply the brake heavier.
I find that the brake dust is pretty non existent as well, haven't experienced any squealing with mine at all.
Instead of saying "you got your pads greased up" why not show greasing the pad? Isn't that the point of a "how-to" video? Also, shouldn't you remove the negative battery cable to avoid getting a service brake system error message when driving after this install?
My apologies, I guess I glossed over how to grease a brake pad @ 9:26. Assumed it was common knowledge for those attempting to do this job on their own. If you need further explanation on how to grease a brake pad check out the following link.
