    After Hurricane Ian... Many people just started throwing these curbside ... Cut trunk. So I took my truck and started heading driveway to driveway... Grabbing up all the freebies I could. 👍👍

    Thanks for making such a straight forward video! We have several MASSIVE selloum plants in our yard, they are absolutely gorgeous and many decades old by now. But we’re moving house and I want to take some smaller ones to plant at the new place. And finally I found a video that shows me exactly what to do! Now to find a blade that will cut through that trunk easily...

      @mclaurDIYvideo  3 года назад +6

      You can propagate your philodendron by cutting in the middle of the trunk. Plant the upper part of the trunk with roots and leaves in a new container 3 inches deep to the soil and water it. Leave the lower part of the trunk as it is in the original container.

    Thanks. This was exactly what I was looking for. I've had my Selloum for nearly 30 years and it's a beast now with 3 central stems. However, I recently came into possession of an even older one that has 5 stems of various thicknesses but they are very lanky and long. I want to cut off all but the top 2 leaves with a few roots left on the stem. This proves that I'm good to go with that plan.

    • @mclaurDIYvideo
      @mclaurDIYvideo  2 года назад

      Jason, I will not recommend this propagation. In my experience with this propagation, only one survives. Instead, try this method, cut the stem in half in the upper part of the stem with roots and leaves plant it in a new container with soil 3 inches deep, and the original lower part of the stem with roots leave it as it is. the upper stem will grow and survive.

    • @jasonscottjenkins
      @jasonscottjenkins 2 года назад

      @@mclaurDIYvideoThanks, I'm really only thinking about doing it with the tips. The rest would be just experimenting. propagating from just the stem would be very hit or miss.

      For the best result, Do not divide too many trunks just I did, you can propagate your philodendron by cutting in the middle of the trunk. Plant the upper part of the trunk with roots and leaves in a new container 3 inches deep to the soil and water it. Leave the lower part of the trunk as it is in the original container.

    Hi there thank you for this. I have a very large philodendron. It’s in the lawn and I would like to propagate for a smaller indoor plant due to its air purifying qualities. There’s no way I could remove the entire plant from where it is planted. It’s multiple decades old and HUGE. Is there any other way without hurting it?

    • @JagexAnarchy
      @JagexAnarchy 3 года назад

      I'm in the same boat. Mine is about 5 foot tall. I can't find any propagation videos that involve a large plant or don't involve destroying the large plant.

      Sorry for the late reply. To propagate your philodendron, cut in the middle of the trunk. Plant the upper part of the trunk with roots and leaves in a new container 3 inches deep to the soil and water it. Leave the lower part of the trunk in its original container or soil. Good luck!

      Mam marlene, sa apat ko pong pinutol na selloum isa lang po tumubo ang nangyari sa iba natuyot sila. Sa ibang propagation ko ng selloum ang ginawa ko hinati ko lang sa dalawa iniwan ko yong lower part na original na nakatanim sa soil ang yong upper part na may dahon at roots ay itinamim ko sa ibang pot at tumubo sila pareho. Sa experience ko hindi madaling magpropagate ng selloum pag malaki at magulang na ito. mas maganda mag propagate ng selloum pag maliit pa lang sya.
