    Never really looked into this plant before, had one for years. Bought it in a store for 50% when it was about to become garbage. Today this dude takes over my tiny hope. "He" lives outside in a summer, and usually double in size. Which means, I have to cut a few of his leafs when he goes back inside in a winter. Definitely has personality! Cool to see a video about it, but to be honest, never gave it THAT much care.

    I have it between east wind south windows. Which has filtered light. The room is around 66-68° with 50-60% humidity and I have a lot of plants around the area. I repotted it since it was rootbound and use rain water. It's still not improving.

    They're hardy enough to be planted outside in a shaded planter here in south Louisiana(Lake Charles). Our winters are mild here and we may only see a true freeze(below 32 degrees F) only twice per winter, and even then it's just an overnight low. Once the sun comes out, it's back to the forties and fifties for the daytime highs. With age, these things can get large and grow on a stalk similar to how a palm tree grows on a trunk. I've seen them up around five feet high before!

    • @AraceaeFanatics
      @AraceaeFanatics 2 года назад

      Indeed, here in Florida, many are planted in direct sunlight and once acclimated, do very well in these conditions. Our winters are like yours and we're okay with that too.
      I've seen these trained upright and hold themselves quite tall as well, and also snake themselves over the ground over time. They add a great patch of green to any landscape. Their sibling Xanadu as well.

    I have a very large (over 5' diameter) Philodendron Selloum that was given to me five years ago... I have repotted it twice, and it needs repotting again. My problem is that it has become so top heavy, it actually tipped out of its pot and is growing (like crazy!! New leaves all the time!) sideways. In addition to that, two root tendrils have found their way to my floor, through drainage holes and/or over the top of the pot. It literally looks like my plant is climbing out of its pot! These tendrils are quite long and have adhered to my hardwood floor - I will likely have to cut them to get the plant free of its current pot, but I don't want to hurt it. Would love some advice...

      I thought I was overwatering mine over the winter because the leaves were turning yellow Then I realized I was underwatering it - I let it dry out completely too many times and the soil became hydrophobic - it wasn't getting any moisture at all and the water was just running right through! I dried out the poor thing. Now it is recovering but it is not the same.

    Thank you I’m under watering it. When I first became plant mom I OVER watered and killed many plants , so now, I’m afraid to water now so I end up with crispy. Can’t win.
    I have my Pearl
    Plant on a very regimented watering schedule. I don’t care if she’s dry or not. I water every 1.5 weeks 😅😮 god FORBID if I mist her! It might as well be poison. Same with my Hoya/ Christmas cactus. Although he just doesn’t like it, he doesn’t immediately perish like my Pearl plant.
    I’d like to hear a tutorial on Curly Sue. Last winter, out of nowhere, well after I had stopped fertilizing it blossom little flowers then some kind of small ball. Not sure what it was. Why do this in the winter , when I had cut down watering and NO fertilizer. Made zero sense. 🤷‍♀️. No explanation when I googled.

      I took a cutting from my grandma's plant. The cutting I took was at the base and I cut about two inches below the stem of the leaves. The nose I cut had three large leaves. I used a root hormone and potted it in a large pot. Two of the three leaves died off and one remains and I FINALLY have nice healthy roots growing. I wanna say the process for it to finally root took 6+ weeks

      Yeah there's no problem if you leave enough roots for your plant to thrive.
