Lifelong bluegrass fan. Heard lots of dobros and resonator guitars but never heard a resonator mandolin before. Very interesting sound possibilities there. BTW nice rendition of Down by the Salley Gardens. There is a great choral version of that by The King's Singers that people should check out.
Great to hear from you, my fellow Bluegrass fan! I'll look up that version of Sally Garden. I've only ever used my recording studio for work but just realised I could use it for my personal RUclips videos here and record some old tunes. All the best!
Oh boy, RUclips algorithm is gonna blow this up some random time in the future, I just have a gut feeling. (As of July 10 2024 this video has 855 views)
@@MountainHomeJerrel Funny, that's why I joined RUclips years ago before it was even part of Google. I just wanted a venue to upload videos that interested me so that I would be able to save them and watch them in the future. Somehow I managed to pick up 11k subscribers along the way. The nice thing about social media is that we can find people who share the same interests no matter how esoteric they might be.
Indeed, you can still chop but it lacks the deep percussive hit of a standard mandolin. Instead, you get a more of a high end shimmer, which has its own appeal.
Thanks Jerrell for another great video.
I was very interested in the fact that the cone needs adjustment according to the season.
Take care, David.
Unique had never really stoped and listened thanks Jerrel
Thank you for watching and commenting. All the best to you!

Wonderful!!
Thank you for watching!
What do you think of a Resonator Mandolin? Is it worth the trouble keeping it clean of smudges and fingerprints?
Very banjo- like.
You are right. The resonating surface on these instruments is a very thin cone, so it is a bit similar to the banjo's head in a way.

Hey I really appreciate that. I'm not trying to be a RUclipsr or anything. I just want to share things I'm passionate about with other people.

Since you mention it is weak in the low register I presume it doesn't work very well for chopping

It's made entirely out of metal
The body is entirely metal. The neck and head are wood like normal. Interestingly, there is no adjustable truss rod.
