I had the cheaper Sunbeam vinyl heating pad (under $15) that worked great I had put a towel around it because I hated the cheap cloth case it came with but I made the mistake of laying on it and broke something inside it. I went out and bought this model the next day as I absolutely need it (I have Trigeminal Neuralgia and i need it to put on the left side of my head) I am so much happier with this model as I can wrap it completely around my head. Its so ridiculously soft.. I'm so much happier with this king size model. Thankyou for the review. It was very helpful to watch before I bought it. I think it was well worth it (under $32.00) Remember don't lay on them because you may break the filaments inside them.

Dandlinc, I respectfully have to disagree with you- I bought the same unit this week and it does not get very hot. In fact it takes like 5 minutes to get up to its highest temp, then it backs off after about 5 or 6 minutes. If you recycle power and turn it back on- it doesnt even come close to the first temp you hit when you first turned it on 5 minutes in. My unit does anyway. To me the lower settings are useless. I remember that in the past I have (excitedly go figure) bought sunbeams thinking they are an independent manufacturer and always have been disappointed, I personally have found The Walgreens equivalent cloth XL model to be the hottest unit I have used but they are hard to find lately. I have found the vinyl CVS ones 2nd best if you take the cover off, but who wants vinyl pressing on your back. i am half tempted to get a thermometer and compare the models to prove this point and post it. I have Lyme and really look forward to a good heating pad for my fibromyalgia and aching flu like mid section. They say the Lyme spirochetes lower your body temperature over time to reproduce. Heating pads make their jobs more difficult and provide relief all in one. Also i just noticed that you got to a whopping 98 F? What good is that if you want to heat your body a little higher than body temperature? 98 is body temp! To feel 'something" you need (i guess) maybe 3-5 degrees hotter than that? Just saying.

I used a similar brand that I bought recently called PARAMED, it's basically the same thing, it heats up after 5 minutes, a great hot feel but after a few minutes it just backs off, super disappointing. I wish I could find an actual heating pad that heats for the entire time I need it too.
Also in regards to your comment about it reading out 98F, that's because it's mixed with actual cool air. You obviously aren't going to get the full 147F by just pointing a thermo reader at it, it actually needs to press against something where the heat cannot escape, that's why he plopped a pillow on it as an example. 98F from just pointing at it while cool air pushes against the heat is actually a pretty hot reading.
But yeah, as I said earlier, I have yet to find a good heating pad that actually stays hot for a long period of time. If you find one feel free to let us know, until then I just have to deal with this pad I have. I don't call it a heating pad, I call it a teasing pad. It teases nice and hot for 5 minutes then it just goes away. Rude :(

Dude what you just described is exactly what happens. EVEN ON WARM, the lowest setting it will get to the hottest temp (Happens on every setting) then it will cool down to nothing. You can’t really tell between low and medium ether.

Today's heating pads don't heat up the way the older ones did, I still think Sunbeam is a better product, I have the Sunbeam model 2013 and that gets very hot, the Sunbeam model 2014 is practically the same as the 2013 except it's smaller in size size.

@@franklinchmara3039 i have to admit my latest sunbeams been very warm and moist compared to the others. except their cords come loose more easily, you know disconnect from the slip on

I love mine. It was a gift. Unfortunately, the heat turns itself off in about 20 minutes. It is so annoying. Any ideas? Was I supposed to program it in some way.
