I had to play this twice, once because I was unexpectedly captivated by the godlike beard and once again for the bag liner info. Excellent review of the liner, now that I gave myself a chance to pay attention to what you were saying.
I LOVE the feel of this liner. I did cut open a seam down to my knees and added 12” of micro fleece in the leg portion to add length. It is now as versatile as a quilt with a foot box and long enough to wrap my shoulder in before I stretch out in hammock. I can move around and not get claustrophobic in the closed bag, and getting in and out in middle of night is a lot easier with the side opening. Will be using on the AT for a section hike starting next weekend.
I like your side opening addition. I have considered doing the same to my liner. It is easy to get tangled in the liner trying to get out of it for a 2AM pee. The open weave of the fabric allows body moisture to escape. The woven fibers are hollow increasing heat retention with no added weight. It took me a few nights to get used to the liner but now love it.
I’ve had this liner for about 3 years now and I love it. While it’s a far stretch to say it ‘adds’ 25 degrees to your bag, it’s probably fair to say half that realistically. What I love most is how soft and feather light it feels on your skin. I like a rectangular type sleeping bag, so lots of dead air to heat up. This liner keeps the cold spots off my body when I roll around at night. Also like the narrator mentioned, the liner keeps your bag clean and the oils from your body from matting down the interior of the bag and decreasing feather fluff. It was a very well spent $75. I’m a camping junkie and it’s one of my fav pieces of gear. I highly recommend this item.
Works. Icy rain, everything wet, dampness, turned -4C, slight wind. Made a fire, tarp lean to. Reactor extreme liner + down blanket was enough. Slept inn nicely that morning. Not recommended situation, but turned into comfortable survival.
I just bought this liner. Looking forward to using it as a liner for my 40* ultralight bag and as a stand-alone in warmer weather. Btw, awesome beard game. 👍🏽
I have this Product....I don't know in which parallel universe it will give the warmth claimed by the manufacturer....The material is mesh/net-like thin and so porous that I cannot see it holding the heat, I haven't felt much warmer when I sleep on it standalone, may 3 - 4 F? The only way this would hold to their claim was if it added some synergistic 'magic' effect to a sleeping bag, for which I haven't had the need to carry the almost 1 lb extra of this stuff..
Such a beard must add 20c to a sleeping bag! Lightweight, compressible and warm. I'll get the liner though 'cos I can just put it in the washing machine..
The new S2S Ember is super lightweight! www.backcountryedge.com/sea-to-summit-ember-ebii-2019.html?.com&KxNyuV_Sk . The Ember also comes in 20 and 40 degree versions. Happy Trails!
Great review. I have a 20 degree quilt and it's not warm enough for me as I'm a cold sleeper. Have you ever tried using a liner with a quilt? I wonder how much warmth that would add to it? Any thoughts on this? Thank you!
Thanks for your question! The above product will raise temps by about 25 degrees, so if you are in a 20 degree quilt, plus the Thermolite Reactor you will certainly be toasty! If you need a little less heat, check out the Sea to Summit Compact Plus liner or any of the other awesome liners on our website www.backcountryedge.com/sea-to-summit-thermolite-reactor-compact-plus-liner.html?___SID=U?.com&KxNyuV_Sk
@@Enwild Sweet, this sounds like a much better solution than dropping the money to buy a mummy bag which I almost did before coming across this. I'm going to try it out, thank you!
can I use this under a blanket? does it help to increase warmth? I am planning whether I should get this lightweight stuff or a sleeping bag. pls advise.
Thanks for asking! You could definitely use this under a blanket! It provides extra warmth. This is the Reactor Extreme Liner, so it can add up to 25 degrees of warmth to your current sleep system. It can be used as a stand alone sleeping bag in temperatures above 55 degrees. But if it is colder than that, we'd recommend a true insulated sleeping bag.
It's either delayed from the manufacturer or it may have been discontinued. @@Enwild thanks for your reply. It seems like Thermolite Reactor Fleece Liner would be the "warmest" option. I've also found something called Sea To Summit Fleece Mummy Liner for half of the prize of Reactor Fleece Liner: seatosummit.com/product/fleece-mummy-liner/ I'm not sure which one would keep warm for longer, what do you think?
@@Taran20ify We don't have much hands on experience with the Reactor Fleece Liner, so it is difficult to say what will keep warm for longer. I would use Sea to Summit's guidelines when selecting a liner, as they typically list how much extra warmth a liner will offer and tend to be accurate. Stay warm out there!
question regarding liners. If I have a thin sleeping bag with comfort temperature is 12C (~54 Fahrenheit). Will these liner actually help the efficiency of the bag to cope with colder nights when it dips down to let say 6C (43 Farenheit)? Or is the insulation proporties of the bag too weak to make it efficient? For me personally I would like more flexibility. I trek mostly during spring and summer months. but since weather can vary a lot in temperature it seems better to have liners to regulate comfort temperatures. I mean, with a Reactor I see myself using it standalone during warm summer nights. sleeping bag during normal nights and both together during colder nights.
Hi there! The liners are designed to perform as you describe and increase the thermal efficiency of a bag. Since you are only looking to add a moderate swing to your temperature range, the Reactor Extreme should be able to handle the difference.
Good video! Just curious; I have a Snugpak “Thermolon” liner and I’m wondering if anyone knows if Thermolite and Thermolon are just different trade names for the same thing?
Well, I have just bought one and it's a piece of crap. It says it should increase the warmth of the sleeping bag by 15C. I have a summer sleeping bag with a comfort of 11C so with this insole I should have a combined sleeping system with a -4 C comfoprt. I tested it at my balcony in a temp of around 2 - 4 C hoping to have some quality sleep. I couldn't last more than 40 mins it was so cold. I had to return home. It just does not work!
Do these actually work? I've seen alot of mixed reviews. Its important to me because my (will be) 8 year old and I are hiking the AT in 2021 the bag she would be in is rated for 15° I want it as a back up as a precaution especially for the smokies
What does the statement 'gain 25F in warmth' mean??? Fahrenheit is not a linear scale, so this delta means nothing. If outside it's 20F then you gain 12 Celsius and if it's 100F you gain like 2Celcius???please elaborate
Temp(°C) = (Temp(°F)-32)*5/9 = -17.8+Temp(°F)*5/9. Gaining 25°F in warmth = gaining 13.9 in °Celcius. [ 20°F-->45°F = -6.7°C --> 7.2°C] and [100°F --> 125°F =37.8°C --> 51.7°C] If you have a sleeping back with comfort temperature x°C, adding the liner will give a comfort temperature of (x-13.9)°C.
Your beard is versatile. it can be strung together to make rope, tinder to make a fire, knotting together logs and so much more!
This beard review made me spit up my beverage. Five stars

The liners absolutely add some warmth to your sleeping bag! Some of the heavier ones will add more warmth than the lighter ones.
What a beautiful beard!
haha, thanks
Do you use a beard liner?
The cat on your chin is seriously shifting my attention from the review.
Hi! ¿Could it be used as a sleeping bag alone, for warm weather? (Night temperature between 75-55 degrees)
Never mind :) you mentioned it at the beginning!

So you get in the liner and then slide into your sleeping bag?
Yep!

Beard must add a few degrees of warmth for sure 😃✅👍
lol@ the beard comments... i didnt even notice it since im here for a liner review.. nice voice ... ok ok nice beard too
If that liner adds 25 degrees than that beard should add 40 degrees.
Please note that Steven's beard does not have an official EN rating...yet
epic beard!
Nice beard bro!
I have found liners to be too clingy....so would go, with a lightweight bivy....
who needs a bag liner with a beard like that?
Grow a long beard as a bag liner, great tip
If i put my hand into that beard, will my hand ever get out?
Probably not, but you can try!
Can anyone confirm that it actually does add 25F in real life?...
guess not.
Is your beard is thermolite?
Dang, how long did it take to grow that beard?
about a week. :)
Would this be good for lazy person who is too lazy to use normal bed sheets :D asking for a friend ofcourse :p
Brush I wasn't really watching just listening then I saw THE BEARD
I bet that massive beard adds an additional 30F to that liner.
With that beard you don’t need that liner..
Yes but will the beard fit inside? 🤷♂️
25 degrees.....quite a boost....eh...
I could only focus on the beard
very slow talking in my view
you were talking English just fine, until you mentioned the dimension, come on now, put it in metric man
