  • aesthetics have a norm on social media and it's often we find ourselves in situations where we feel that we must align with one. but are all of these really beneficial for us? i mean they've definitely helped reshape fashion trends as we know it but it's becoming clear that aesthetics are being taken too seriously.
there is also a mix-up of subculture and aesthetic whereas the two things are very different.

when i first started to get into fashion I tried to follow an aesthetic and fit inside it, but it never was truly me. After a few years slowly began wearing what liked and developed what I truly enjoyed into my own style I have now, and I've had more compliments than ever. Following trends only puts you in a box, just be you

6:02 I think this is a super interesting topic to explore and I've thought about it for a while as someone entrenched in the music industry especially. Take the punk subculture, for instance. Their aesthetics were influenced by their ideology. Their rebellious sociopolitical beliefs manifested in their fashion the same way, like dressing against societal norms. These days people want the look but it's not informed by any ideological background. (This goes for a lot of subcultures, not just my example of punk.) Like you said, that's why people are afraid to speak on certain issues. I'm not claiming everybody's a poser; I think it's healthy to imitate iconic looks popularized by different subcultures and partake in that kind of fashion. But very few people seem to live up to that sentiment of ideology influencing aesthetic, not the other way around.

I love so many different aesthetics but I feel like especially now I’m pressured to fit into one. It’s so difficult haha! Great video btw :))
