I originally started watching your channel because of your coastal foraging! It’s great to see this video, kind of like a throwback to your OG days. Those mussels looked so vibrant and delicious!! You’re definitely living the life, Taku.
me 2
Me too, I love all their content but this takes it back. Thanks Taku 💜 from 🇦🇺
exactly
Same, I love the foraging stuff. Coastal and the mushroom foraging both.
Same here started watching Taku’s channel then when he collaborated with FishermansLife started watching that channel as well. Both channels have very good information!
The little thing in the cage is a hobo logger used in science to record temperatures! I’m going to ask my colleagues on Instagram to see if they know who it belongs to!
I was gonna guess water monitor for either salination or some chemical measured in ppm.
man this is such a throwback to the old foraging videos. great vid taku!
taku you help my anxiety and keep me relaxed with your calming personality. thankyou
A good deed never goes unnoticed.
Nor unpunished.
good deed my ass so dangerous, anyone can pull a knife out. more so america, they can pull a gun out, why didnt they just call roadside assistance?, they also invented devices that can jump start cars so just buy that

Unless that was Thelma & Louis. I think he was alright. I am he just poked his head out and asked what was wrong.
This video is more about foraging on our beautiful coast
I’ve been following you for a few years now and loving the content as always. Keep up the genuineness of your production and who you are Taku!
I really enjoy wholesome stories like this.
Love the content, keep being awesome, man.
Limu is the Hawaiian generic name for all seaweed. Ogo is the Japanese word for the species Gracilaria Coronopifolia, which is commonly used for poke among other species. The Hawaiian name for Ogo is Manauea. From "Limu, An Ethnobotanical Study of Some Edible Hawaiian Seaweeds" by Isabella Kauakea Yau Yung Aiona Abbott & Eleanor Horswill Williamson, 1974.
Bro sited his sources. Thank you!
Love this Taku! this kind of video is what got me excited about your channel
Used to be a family outing on Sun. when we lived in Berkeley. my mouth is watering.
The content you create is so inspirational. I'm inspired to forage what I can in Minnesota sustainably and feed my family.
This kind of content is the reason I started watching and sub'd. Get that cookbook done! I'll 100% buy a copy.
It was very nice of you to help the stranded people who had vehicle problems. Home is where your heart is. Once again, you made some great food with what you were able to forage and harvest. That's a very tasty and healthy soup with the mussels. Cheers, Taku and Jocelyn. 👍🏻👍🏻✌️
I totally understand the moving around thing. I became a truck driver because i couldnt handle the mundane everyday life. Im in a different state every day and travel the world on vacation days. My home time only last 3 days max because i get bored and restless.
Great ep mate. Your close pretty much summarised my thoughts as I watched. An inspirational lifestyle. Cheers.
So happy you kept working hard on this channel. Congrats on your job you sure are good at it. And the recipes look incredible.
Another amazing episode!! Be safe and stay blessed brother!
Thankyou Chef .
I am SO stoked for the cookbook!!
TAKO....THAT SOUPS NAME IS NOW....OCEAN SOUP! PUT IT IN THE COOKBOOK!
Purple uni, monkeyface prickleback, limpets, mussels, octopus,
lobsters, coral fish, blue meat lingcod, stranded bullwhip kelp (pickled in a jar now! :( not available in Asia yet though) etc. are some of the things Taku got from beautiful tidepools and incorporated very nicely in his dishes (started 5 years ago and still going). Found Taku's yt channel when fighting autoimmune and dealing with excruciating pain 5 years ago (I'm on remission now). Taku's contents (Taklyn the World's content also) are such godsent painkillers. Thank you, Taku and Jocelyn. Now, you are writing a cookbook! So proud of you and Jocelyn! Way to go!
(1st time leaving a comment cause I'm waiting for the 1 hour movie again from you!)
Your passion for what you do is inspiring. Keep going. Be safe and stay healthy.
I love the simple OG throwback! It's too bad there's a quarantine for the summer though. Seems like a fun day on the coast just sittin' back eating muscles on the beach. Looking fwd to my next trip to the coast to visit family and possibly a day out to do something like this. Watching this gives me a better idea of what I can / cannot eat. Simple How To's... love it and thank you for continuing to make vids.
My wife and i absolutely love watching your videos. Please do not ever stop making them got one quick question for you. Have you ever tried eating sea anemone when I was a young fella living in New Zealand, we used to eat them all the time it’s better than abalone
First time watching the channel since around the time your Alaska summer ended.
Now this is the type of adventures that got me hooked. Glad to see you're doing well
Found your channel with your mushroom foraging and have been hooked since. This is a nice throwback to ur original vids =)
you just keep getting better and better ;)
can't wait for the cookbook 👍
Been watching you since the beginning - so happy to see a foraging video again!

Can’t do the “first” comment anymore because it’s always the bots😂 they got that notification on lock! Hahahah
How do you know which are bots ?

Great video Taku!
Thanks for sharing!!!
The seaweed in Poke is called Ogo.
Talk about OG vids. This gave me serious Chowder vibes from one of the very first videos I ever watched of OCL. "The ocean provides, man" IYKYK. I've watched that one probably 50 times. Makes my mouth water every single time. And now, so will this one!
Big fan here, I love all your videos yo. I've been following you for a minute. I never get tired of watching your videos. You inspire me to get out more and love nature. Stay blessed and be safe with your adventures.
Can't watch any of your episodes without eating 😂...love all you do Taku...a subscriber from Papua New Guinea
You turned me on to this! I gave up alcohol at the beginning of the year and absolutely love Athletic Brewing. I’ve been turning all my friends on to them.
An indicator that it is limu manauea (the one used in Hawaiian poke) is if it turns from reddish/brown when raw to green when cooked. I believe that it did occur in your video when picked it was reddish, and green when you ate it from your spoon. Google the net for Ogo namasu recipes where you blanch this limu (10 seconds until it changes color) and pickle it (vinegar/sugar) with sweet maui onions. Many variations where you can add other ingredients soy sauce, dried shimp, top shell/abalone, Hawaiian chili peppers, green onions, sesame seeds/oil, etc. Crunchy good!!!
Wow! Excellent! Never have seen mussels that orange in Oregon! Looked so yummy!great job!
I love watching your videos...keep doing what you love best... that's bring Happiness, Love and Fullfillment in Life... ❤❤❤
Can't wait for the cookbook!
You can never get tired of doing what you love keep doing you love your videos PS get that cookbook done brother 👌
AWESOME VIDEO!! 🤙🏼💪
I'm really glad you've enjoyed this lifestyle and let us follow you during it. Seems amazing, and a lot of work. Much love.
You're the best dude! Thanks for the video!
Taku, you did a very good thing for a stranger, and your reward was finding an excellent spot to fish! You might try crushing up a few mussels to leave a scent trail in the water or marinating your soft plastics with them. They are also good bait, but use a small treble hook.
Well said Taku, I like what u said and answered on the question from the comment. Can't wait to see the cookbook and more great content
I enjoy all you do stay safe take care and blessings to you 💗
Taku, I took your knife to Japan and did a catch and cook out there and shit was amazing. Thanks for teaching so much always. Would love to do something on Ocean beach or in pacifica sometime!
I really enjoy costal forging..I hope you do more costal forging..part of it is the exploration excitement we get watching ..more costal forging videos please 🙏
you and joselline are the best, we love yall, please never change
The O face tells it all! LoL! Great video 😮
Thanks for explaining the seaweed.
love your foraging videos coz it reminds me of your old videos :)
Should have brought a half package of tofu too. Great video. California coastline is so great
Love Muscles, and Love This Channel! Keep it up Taku!
Those Kelp Chili Crisp shorts are legit FIREEEEEE
I don't even eat seafood at all, but every time I watch these videos I want to try everything you make.
Not usually a fan of mussels but man those Yakitori mussels look scrumptious.
When I was a kid (8 years old) we used to spend summers at the beach on the Maine coast. Mussels covered the rocks. While I loved clams and oysters, i didn't realize that mussels were edible.. Once I tried them at a seafood restaurant, I fell in love with them. I think back to my summers in Maine and regret not grabbing them and eating them. ,
Congrats on your success. You came a long way.
Athletic is my favorite NA!!!!! It's the ONLY beer I drink! I am really happy you are teaming up with them! Plus, I love the outdoors and I did not know until today that they gave back so much. Even more reason to drink their beer!
Great vid!! You mentioned the quarantine. I remember either Masaru or Kaneko (Kimagure Cook) mentioned that in Japan there are many species of seafood you don't eat in months that don't have an "r" in the name, like May, June, July and August, because of the Ciguatera toxin.
Us, in the grind, will live vicariously through you.
It’s so crazy that I just watched a video last nite of you getting mussels 5yrs ago wishing you would do another video, and wow dude you had this video waiting for me. Anyway, you two be safe and blessed out there bro.
Awesome vid mate 👍
I love your videos, you living the life.
You took us back in time!! Loved this video. Maybe since you guys are back for a bit, can you do a overnight fresh water catch and cook, maybe some mushroom foraging. Thank you for a great video, again!
Kia Ora & Good Evening from Caribbean Drive, Unsworth Heights, North Shore, Auckland, New Zealand …Great Video Bro …
I envy your proximity to fresh mussels. I would love to be able to forage like this.
Suck here in Michigan that we can’t harvest mussels but animals can but l do have a clam that is wide open and it’s about 7 inches long. 50 plus years old and I found it on the bank in a little creek by my house so I have it on display 🤣
Bro you introducing me to Athletic Brewing this year was amazing. And the limited time flavors are awesome. It really tastes like a craft brew. Definitely getting another batch of brews for the summer
Mussels are one of my fav things to cook and eat. Great vid going to try grilling them now.
The ones you put in poke. It’s called Ogo. Looked good!!
That water is so blue. Love it
This is like back to your roots, i like it.
I love the foraging videos! OG... 😅
You’re videos are therapeutic
Yeah Taku! That seaweed looks exactly like Limu in Hawaii.
Braaaaaahhh……my mouth was salivating when u was brushinf da sauce on dem muscles😋Aloha bradda 🏝️🌋🤙🏾

I love the Orange 1's best 😋🧡✨❄️
Where did you get that orange bag you are using to collect the mussels?
Is it a heavy naterial? Waterproof? Thanks Taku❤
Those grilled mussels and miso soup looks very delicious.
I went to Bodega and Jenner the other day. Beautiful. Was with my mother though so no hunting and foraging unfortunately.
Hey Taku! Is there a pre-order link for your cookbook? We’re excited for it!
Aloha. Nice foraging, love muscles, especially with frites. How many pounds are you hiking in and out?
I respect this video so much brotha especially at the end, I’ve been in sales and my dreams is to own a business one day and have the freedom to live off catch and cook fishing and hunting.
One day I hope to be like you brotha this inspires me more!
What’s the ID a in that lil grill you cooked the muscles on I need one
I've been loving athelete brewing. Only had the golden one so far but as someone that loves beer its nice to drink something without alcohol
Salivating here Tako 🤤🤤!!!!!!!! 😂😂. 🌴🇲🇵🤘
I would love to see some fishing videos in the area you're in. I've been visiting that area since I was a kid but don't know how to fish the coast there
Looks like a good spot
Dude..I've been binge watching since last 3 weekends..
I’m going to harvest some clams here in Michigan this year 🤫I got a 2 -3 acre pond that is as a park , so public access but there are thousands of them, put your foot down anywhere and you will step on a 4-5” clam. Fishing isn’t very good yet but the clams are everywhere, rem🤫
