Love this scene, Tom walking back and witnessing the ugliness of the family he's willing to go to prison to protect. A cousin hoisted on the shoulders of men shouting his name because he's suing a charity, and the family upstairs deciding who will be the next president. Brilliant and disturbing

And if you think about the relation between logan and marcia you start to understand what he is talking about. Marcia really knows here value and what she brings to logan live, they relation is transactional and that's why he respects her. Meanwhile tom is just tom, the only thing that he can bring to her is to be a fuck toy and a sense of normality, also he depends totally on her family so...
Tom is not going to prison, hes not stupid. He has a plan for sure.
I always had a sense but in this episode I got confirmed that Tom actually has a moral compass hidden deep within and Greg really doesn't lol

Now that tom is going to jail, he sees the BS in the family. Otherwise he was busy footstooling. Nobody is worth rooting apart from the bagel eating rabbit

A reverse Heisenberg, every good story arc has a character that transform for the worst or better. Tony Soprano got worst over the seasons, Walter White even more evil.
But in Red Dead Redemption 2, the reverse happen where the main character becomes a better human being.
This is undoubtedly Matthew Macfadyen's Emmy award winning episode. He's so good in it.
Him vs Jeremy Strong is going to he some battle, but I am edging Matthew's way. The scene with Shiv, was soooooo awkward, and so well played.

Brilliant episode. A little slow in terms of action, but absolutely instrumental in terms of character development and pressure building. I think this episode signifies either the beginning of the end for Tom or an entire shift in his attitude towards Shiv and Logan. I hope it’s the latter.
I am just not sure if Tom and Shiv have enough spine to do a Kendall U turn on Logan.

This season, it seems like Tom is realizing how wicked the family really is.
There is some kind of redemption arc going on for him and I'm loving it. As the series began, I thought Tom was one of the worst but as the show progressed it became pretty clear that he is the only one who has still some kind of moral compass. Yes, he is flawed and can be a toxic douche but he is also capable of true loyality and compassion. You can't really say the same about any of the other family members - except maybe Connor to some extent.
Tom was always kind of relatable because you can comprehend how he got to this place in his life. He is a social climber who still feels like he isn't really fully accepted in this circle (which he clearly isn't) and who was willing to do everything to be a part of it - at least until now, it seems.
It'll be interesting to see what he'll do next!
Don’t forget that in season one Tom wanted to do the right thing and get ahead of this but was bullied into this situation.
Tons instincts were also right. If he had done a press conference and come forward with the issues well ahead of time it all might have gone well.
Now he’s likely going to prison after being bullied into submission.

The dream of one day making it big to that level and the belief that when we become like then we can be a part of that echelon of society.

If he had done a press conference, he would have lost his job, shiv, connection to roy family. Also the company would be in the same position it is in now just kendall thinking he is the successor
Tom's best move was to do nothing, assuming the crimes were historic. He then could have legitimately claimed that he didn't know about the coverup. Instead, he ordered the destruction of a huge amount of evidence and implicated himself, leading to Logan having to offer up Kendall, who then went rogue.
In fairness, the fault is mainly Logan's, for ordering the cover up in the first place.
Can we give Matthew Macfadyen his freaking Emmy already??

Connor ends up making friends and deal with the president of the United States to concede areas. He barely gets any votes but gets them in the right areas. The president likes him and gives him the ambassadorship to Slovenia where Connor is expanding his ranching and oil empire. By the way, Connor has a ranching empire and managed to gain control new Mexico's water supply by buying up all the ranching lands. His family just has no respect for him but by the end of the series he's by far the wealthiest. He just gets free money from his family because he knows they hate each other and him and he goes back to building his empire and playing stupid. He only ran to gain control of certain swing areas and votes to make a deal with whoever was president.
Connor has been interested in politics from a very young age.
Ugh when Tom walks to the room, the music, the meeting, Logan and his heirs surrounding the potential POTUS hearing their strategies, even the way Shiv is sitting as the sinister/dramatic music plays while looking at Tom... THIS SHOW IS SHAKESPEARIAN. A MEDIEVAL TIMES / FIGHT FOR THE KINGS THRONE SHOW IN THE MODERN AGE. ITS BRILLIANT.
The whole underlying story of Logan's grip over his own family reminds me of that painting by Goya showing Saturn eating his own children out of fear of losing power.

@@Herbert2892 nah there would’ve been a scene showing her getting that pic. I believe Kendall did that for insurance purposes (a “I could if I wanted to” threat), would’ve done nothing if he sent it to her right there. And if he did, then what? Shiv just never addressed it and it wasn’t a plot point at all? That look is just to show their conflicting dynamic and demeanor. How she has/feels power, while Tom is filled with uncertainty. In her mind she owns him... ya know until the finale ;)

Everything about this scene is beyond brilliant. The context (Tom returns after assuring Kendal he'll lose), Tom walking and realizing how disgusting politics and power actually are while being trapped within the same family, the lavish place, the intense and tragic music and Shiv's gaze. So powerful and haunting. Cant wait for the score to be released

Addicted to this show. I like how it is shot and edited. For instance, they frequently stay on reaction shots rather than cutting to the speaker. They shoot with a couple of cameras roving around getting reaction shots, so the actors are always "on." Director has options about what to show. Sometimes the reaction is more important than what is said. Brilliant!

Tom realized tonight that he is in fact an outsider by the things Kendall said. Greg still has their blood. Even though I think his intentions were pure when he said not to pick Connor. That wasn’t a nod to the fascist.

People, including the creators, says the show portrays people being in a never ending version of them selves and never evolving. This scene shows that the two winners - Tom and Greg- changed drastically to get themselves ahead. Tom evolving past the last grain of moral conscience he had to become the king.

Why is Shiv looking at Tom like that????
Tom is easily the most relatable major character. Moreso even that Greg because though Tom is richer and in a higher position, you get the feeling that Greg doesnt know any better, he'sa kid and he is sort of enthralled by it all. Tom, while still coveting money and position, did not grow up in the ultra rich and powerful enviroment so when he goes inside of the kitchen and sees how they do things he can't help but be somewhat disgusted (and yet, strangely fascinated by it too).
I don't watch the show very often but I think Tom is the saddest Sad Sack of the mall.

After watching the series finale, I'm glad they choose Tom as the CEO and the Roy siblings (minus Connor who's always not involving on drama) are leaving in miserable life without their dad.

One of the things they get wrong in this series is the conservative bullshit-artists. Ravenhead, bathroom guy, all these dudes at this meetup. They're too pleasant to look at. They have nice faces, good hair, etc. In real life, the most effective conservative bullshit-artists are short, pale and annoying like Shappiro, or barrel-chested manly-men who have hair and clothing that went out of style 40 years ago like Hannity or Carlson. Ugly men go way farther in white supremacist groups than handsome men, and I think that's close to the core of white-supremacy culture: fear. I think having good-looking men in these roles is the only misstep in Succession's casting.
