Shiv is Logan's favourite kid. He's softer to her than any of his other kids, and kinder to her than his own ex-wife. Caroline being the way she is definitely doesn't like that, hence her behaviour with Shiv. She loves her sons more, in her own way.
To me she only showed sympathy for Greg. There are scenes in which she clearly shows disdain towards her sons such as the one in which Ken wanted to talk about the dead kid

Harriet Walter’s been on EVERY hot show and movie of the last five years. Downton Abbey, Belgravia, The Crown, Rocketman, Killing Eve, Dr. Who, and Succession. She’s shone in every single role, each more different than the last. The woman’s a beast. She must have one hell of an agent, too. What a glorious actor.
She’s fantastic. The first time I saw her was in a BBC crime drama called Waking the Dead where she played a woman jailed for murdering her 10 year old son’s best friend. She played a really fragile, downtrodden seeming woman but also had a real strength to her and I didn’t know what to make of her character. I didn’t even realise she also played Lady Shackleton in Downton while watching it and then watching Succession thought I recognised her again. Phenomenal actress. She’s so distinctive but totally unique in every role.
I feel that Roman is her favorite, so they have the "best" relationship of all of the kids. The fact that he went to see her in S4 after everything, speaks volumes. I can't imagine Kendall or Shiv doing that.
Caroline is a fabulous character, and Harriet Walter plays her to perfection. I think any chance of a healed relationship with her kids was torched after the end of season 3, but I'd still love for her to return in any capacity.
