Kudos Paul for mentioning Mike Einziger, he's honestly my idol not only as a guitarist and songwriter but as a human. Morning View was the reason I started playing guitar way back when I was a child, and the reason I own a Hollowbody II now. It's become a part of my sound too, no other guitar gets this sound on the face of the planet. There's just a woody openness that just doesn't exist elsewhere. Thank you guys from the bottom of my heart for creating such an amazing instrument, it's literally perfect.
I bought a custom 24 last year to try to get close (I have the same amp). Basically, I can't! The hollow body makes more of a difference than you would think. I thought the wrong guitar 🤦♂️
daveshaw18 totally agree. This is the first video I know of where Paul actually mentions Mike. I always wished he had gotten his own model. Mike is my biggest influence as a guitar player and a Hollowbody II is my favorite.
That is the exact reason why I bought my hollowbody spruce top. I wish mine had the matt finish like the one from the archive. Just beautiful. But other than that, it's a damn fine instrument! It has probably one of my absolute favorite neck shapes too. And yes, every incubus song from that record feels like home when playing it on that guitar :)
I always get one thing when Paul talks about guitars. He has a genuine love of the guitars he produces. You can tell it’s more than just turning out guitars. And that shows in the end product. SE for so far for me, but ,,,, one day!
Those archived guitars need to be displayed in an annexed building in Stevensville, like a museum for PRS Guitars History, with videos of Paul talking about each on display. Shame they will just sit on the shelf and can only be seen in videos on RUclips.
All of the guitars featured in these archive videos are sent down to our showroom after they premier in a new episode (unless of course they are owned by employees, PRS artists, or are in regular use by our R&D team). You should stop by the factory to see them for yourself!
@@prsguitars Is it possible to play them too? Or just look? I went to both the "Play it Loud" exhibit at The Met and The Gallery of Iconic Guitars in Nashville. it was painful to just look at those beauties.
I think of Mike Einziger and INCUBUS Morning View album instantly! What an awesome guitar album, it was because of Mike (and Tim from 311) that got me so hyped and into Paul Reed Smiths.
This particular guitar model just rings and the notes just bloom on chords and single note melodies. I would love to hear the thinner bodied McCarty hollowbody cranked through a Marshall half stack. I'll bet the distorted tones are glorious, too. These videos are great! Thank you Paul and Mike for showing us these great guitars and sharing the thought process behind the design. Fantastic stuff! More.......please. 😁
When I bought my '99 McCarty the first thing I noticed was how light it was (yeah baby!) and then the fact it has the moon inlays which I really dig. I love the featured hollow bodies especially the first one with it's beautifully understated looks.
That hollow body spruce is beautiful! I think seeing a plain looking top on a PRS is way more interesting than a figured one. That’s why my single cut is piano black!
I have a Hollowbody 1 with piezo and absolutely adore it. Such a versatile guitar. Lightweight and extremely resonant. I primarily play Progressive Rock and it handles gain perfectly. It’s funny how many times I’ve been approached after a show to talk about that guitar in particular and how surprising it can handle everything from jazz to shred! Incubus are a massive influence and Mike definitely helped put this remarkable guitar on the map. I don’t think his sound has been quite as good since moving away from PRS. No disrespect to him because he’s a real unsung guitar hero. Worth mentioning Emil Werstler too. He is incredible! Thanks for the insightful video. 🙏
I would like to have one of the thicker ones, missed them when they came out. But the Hollowbody II is also an incredible instrument. Lucky me to have a private stock of 594 Hollowbody II!
oh hell ya! private stock is the BEST!!! if you buy private stock you get the best!! man you are smart to invest in private stock! more like blue chip stocks! AAAAAAAAAAAA FLAME
Man, I would kill to be locked in the archive room overnight! I have an older one with the moon inlays, and it's great, but I have three with the birds, and that's the trademark IMO. All of them are terrific! Love the PRS's.
DEAR PRS...please make a jimmy herring signature guitar like the one he is currently using with the 5 of 7 or the white one that looks similar that he used to use for panic..please! I'll buy one right away and I'm sure many panic fans would as well!
I have a Custom 24 and a McCarty with moons, a Silver Sky and a Hollowbody II with Birds and a 594 on the way. Last one on my list is a 12 string, Hollowbody if I can ever afford it. Thank you for such great instruments!
I worked at Garrett Park when the hollow bodies came out, and I’d swear I remember seeing an offset version that I’ve never been able to find any info about online. If anybody knows anything please let me know. Maybe it was all just a dream.
What a wizard Paul is. Les Pauls are my favourite guitar, but whenever I consider buying a real Gibson ( I have a few Japanese LP's) I struggle because I find the quality doesn't reflect the passion and love for detail the price tag should demand. You can tell Paul is so passionate for the art of guitar making. I can't wait to have one in my hands. Been dreaming about a McCarty 594 Goldtop
There were a line of guitars you made 15+ years back with a satin finish, moon inlays and generally 'less flashy' appointments - no maple top either if I recall. I know there was a Singlecut and a McCarty shaped one. I remember I was desperate to get hold of one of charcoal ones, but was never in a position before they all disappeared. I would love to see those make a re-appearance again, I'd be on it in a heartbeat.
Dude! I remember those when they first came out, I was working in a music store. I wanted one so bad! (Moons Paul, Moons. Birds were girly, now they're freakin' cool!)
Soon i'm going to get a prs custom 24 piezo fire red burst and a archon 50 watt amp, i love the piezo guitars is because of the acoustic sound of the guitar it gets what you need for some sounds.
You should do inlays that go from a full -moon at the first fret. Then through 5,79 have it waning. Then on the 12th have a rising sun, up until the final fret which would be the sun with no cloud!!
I own a few HB's, and I think the route for the bridge pickup could have a bit more wood for stability, especially where the screw holes are. The neck pickup never feeds back, but the bridge gets away from me a little at higher volumes. I also think bring back the spruce... a HB 12 string with a spruce top would be killer.
Finally subscribed I have a PRS tremonti been trying to save hard for a PRS hollow body but something always happens to drain my pennies got to keep trying.
An SE Archtop like the one Mike Einziger used would be amazing...hell, I know it would never happen but a Mike Einziger SE would separate me from money really fast.
Paul, did you ever build a gloss body with a satin neck? I have an SC245, wraparound bridge, full birds, 10-top which a absolutely love. I deglossed the neck and that really took it to another level of playability. The gloss neck would just get so tacky almost immediately when i played it.
Excellent. I have enjoyed your guitars for many, many years. Thank you from the bottom of heart. When I play my Hollowbody II or my PRS 513, I am in a very good place. Thank you for a peace of Heaven on Earth. Would it be possible to order a thicker Hollowbody II?
Regarding dots , I think people felt they were paying a decent amount for the instrument itself; what’s another few dollars for the signature inlay? That being s said if I ever was lucky enough to spec a private stock it would be moons for sure. ;)
That progression at the end sounds a lot like the chords from the ending of this song from the jazz/ rock gospel band Sweet Comfort Band...a song called Love You With My Life... and that guitar's tone is smooth and sounds perfect with what he is playing...you guys should maybe have a "guitar parts" recording studio that has access to those guitars in your closet there, you know, like "We recorded those guitar tracks at PRS Archives Studio...", that way those guitars that you have in there that are tone monsters still get a chance to get played, yet stay in a protected environment under your supervision...of course there would be those that are more on the visual artistic side that would be exempt from people getting their paws on like that double neck dragon...but other than that...or what might be cool if you were like "naah, no one is messing with those, even if they wanted to pay to do so", would be a performance video channel of each of those guitars in your guitar storage...an exhaustive tonal breakdown of each guitar that is in there, with a sample song done with the instrument, either in a band setting or solo performance like the one at the end of this video, just to sonically showcase each instrument that is in your guitar archives...wow, went on a tangent there...hey, have a great day, PRS folks...
I have a 2001 HB Spruce, with moons that will always be my #1. I'd love to know exactly what type of spruce was used for these. I seem to remember Paul once telling me that they were German Engleman like what was used in great violins. Is that right? Thanks!!
Hey PRS how about including some Left handed versions of your guitars? I really wanted a PRS S2 Mira or a SE Mark Holcombe, but never could find one left handed. So I had to settle for the SE 24 Custom and now I have that lingering feeling everytime I pick it up that its not the guitar I wanted.
Please remake that finish on the first guitar !! Looks like a real violin finish . Beautiful

I have a moon inlay. I wish they would do them again. A good understated option to the birds.
Always dug the tones Mike Einziger had with that PRS Hollowbody during the Morning View era.
So do we!

I wish they would bring back the hollowbody spruce. Has a totally different sound.
