  • From the Archives is a series where we explore unique instruments and items from our company archives. In this episode, Paul Reed Smith and Marc Quigley explore the prototype builds for the Modern Eagle 1 and Modern Eagle V. Originally, Paul wanted the Modern Eagle guitars to be a hot-rodded PRS McCarty Model with nicer appointments. But over the years, the model has evolved into a proving ground for Paul and our company's more cutting-edge ideas.
For 2023, the Modern Eagle V has joined our Core lineup as a full-time production model, learn more about it here: prsguitars.com/electrics/mode...

You’ve gotta respect a company who’s boss really knows how the products are made and how to make them. A guitar company run by the person who made the guitars! PRS is a master builder and business person. And a very interesting guy. Like an old school/modern company.

@@ileutur6863 Paul payed all his employees throughout the Pandemic, because he's as loyal to them as they are to him. That would be considered by many as 'socialism' too, but it just makes you appreciate and respect Paul even more, and reflects so positively on him and the company.

The guitars look and sound great but that may be my favorite playing by Bryan. The delay in there and he took it to a very Punk Floyd place. Loved it.

I never thought anything would surpass my core with 58/15 LT pickups, but when I got my Brazilian Wood Library Modern Eagle V, my jaw dropped. And then I plugged it in and fell in love even more. The Paul’s guitar TCI pickups in the MEV are far warmer than the 58/15 LT pickups, but that works really well for a lot of the stuff I play. And the 17 pickup combinations are super useful. It’s just a stunning guitar. Now those two guitars make up about 90% of what I play.

I've always liked the Modern Eagles. Rosewood necks are truly where it's at. That ME V prototype is a REAL stunner. As a small time custom guitar builder, I can say that PRS has easily been my biggest influencer. If I were not so opposed to moving to MD, I'd have done so long ago and gone to work for PRS and made it my career. Because Paul's sense of aesthetics, tone, and construction are such a perfecdt match for my own. I've always seen his work and said, "Yeah, I like that. This fits my tastes and thoughts on how the guitar can be improved, very much so."

I've got one of those, Faded Blue Jeans, from June 2006, with the tremolo bridge, Brazilian rosewood neck and suede guitar case, bought new at the London Guitar Show in 2006.. Great guitar, real easy to play, great sound paired with my 1967 blackface Super Reverb and simple pedalboard.. As PRS says in the clip, a great, updated version of a vintage hb solidbody, my only PRS but I wouldn't have any other..

I wish I were a talented and promising guitar player and wish Paul Reed Smith himself approached me to discuss for building a great sounding guitar (by the way, they sure already sound unique). It would be such an honor and experience for a guitar lover. I love this company. Mr. Smith himself is also an excellent guitar player. My favorite PRS demos are played by him. God bless Paul Reed Smith himself and the company.

I’ve seen a lot of criticism against Paul , they say that his ego is bigger than life, they also criticize his guitar playing, c’mon, the guy is the biggest guitar builder genius alive and he is the best on what he does…my two PRS (core and McCarty) speak for themselves, they are the highest quality guitars you can get right now!

I played that guitar in 2004!! Paul brought it to my high school and did a really cool class on guitars. Showed us with his little Koch amp how the greats got their tones. It’s the reason I own a 2006 513 rosewood neck (couldn’t afford ME) played it today and most days still.
Whatever you imagine in your head it sounds like. Yes. That neck was outrageous. Many nights I went to sleep thinking about it just confounded by how good it felt/sounded. Now I don’t have to anymore 😊

I hope Paul reads the comments on this channel. My question for him is.
Do you realize how many new guitar players there are in my demographic. I'm 60 years old. I know the kids are the ones that will carry on, but the old guys like me have the money. No one is building or advertising to me. Not one of 10 guitars I have purchased this last year are PRS guitars (I do have a Horsemeat pedal. Thank you That Pedal Show) it's not that I don't think they are good . There is no one trying to sale them to me. For the last few yrs my life has been about guitars and there are so many ppl just like me.....!
